Pope Francis has called on catholic priests to pardon women who have abortions and the doctors who perform them, during the upcoming Jubilee year. The Pope's statement overrules the Catholic Church's doctrine which frowns strongly against abortion. In a message outlining special measures for the Jubilee year starting in December, Pope Francis said "I have decided, notwithstanding anything to the contrary, to concede to all priests for the Jubilee Year the discretion to absolve of the sin of abortion those who have procured it and who, with contrite heart, seek forgiveness for it. The tragedy of abortion is experienced by some with a superficial awareness... many others... believe that they have no other option"he said Pope Francis said he was "well aware of the pressure" that some women were under to abort, adding that he had "met so many women who bear in their heart the scar of this agonizing and painful decision". Abortion is considered a particularly serious sin and is punishable under Canon law by excommunication, by which those guilty are expelled from the Church and considered to be condemned to Hell in the afterlife. http://lindaikeji..com/2015/09/pope-francis-grants-catholic-priests.html

Famous Hong Kong actor and stunt artist, Chan Kong-sang, popularly known as Jackie Chan will visit Nigeria on September 4, 2015. Jackie Jackie Chan who is also a film director, producer and singer will not visit Nigeria in person but as a leading screen character in Dragon Blade, directed by Daniel Lee. Dragon Blade is Chan’s latest work that has been released theatrically in several countries of the world. It berths in Nigeria next month, with FilmOne acquiring the theatrical rights to exhibit it. Dragon Blade has remained a big hit since it was released last year. The movie headlined the 2014 Abuja International Film Festival where it won most of the top awards, including the best foreign film of the Fidelis Duker-led festival Critics who have seen the movie say the cinematographic splendor, sprawling battle scenes, unconvoluted story, memorable thrilling scenes, mind-blowing stunts with pints of comic relief synonymous with the legend makes Dragon Blade a movie worth seeing. Set in the year 48 BC, HuoAn (Jackie Chan) serves as the captain of the Protection Squad Silk Road. A Roman General named Lucius (John Cusack) flees to the East with his legion and Publius (Jozef Waite), heir of the ruling Roman Consul, to escape from the corrupt Emperor Tiberius (Adrien Brody), who plans to kill Publius and usurp the throne. They meet HuoAn at a frontier fort on the Silk Road, where they receive sanctuary. Tiberius and his army, who have pursued Lucius along the Silk Road, approach the fort with intention of killing Publius and ambitions of capturing and controlling the Silk Road. HuoAn decides to help Lucius and goes to his allies to recruit an army to fight against Tiberius. HuoAn arrives with reinforcements, and an epic battle like never seen before begins. According to the Chief Operating Officer of Filmone, Moses Babatope, also starring in the movie are other leading actors such as John Cusak (Golden Globe Winner), Adrien Brody (Academy Award Winner), Choi Si Won and Xiao Yang. Pointing that the film distribution company is pleased to be the distributor of the thrilling movie by the veteran actor Jackie Chan, Babatope said: “Certainly, he is a household name in Nigeria and indeed Africa, having achieved great things in his career. Now at 60, when people think he should be slowing down, the contrary is the case, as he has proven once more that that age has nothing to do with reaching your set goals. We are proud to be associated with this film and the Jackie Chan brand and we are confident that it will do well at the box office.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/jackie-chan-to-visit-nigeria-sept-4/

EFCC has released a statement reacting to the reported diversion of N1 trillion by the commission's chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde which was published yesterday August 24th. The agency in a statement published on its website this morning, refuted the claims, adding that the commission is not afraid of probe. The statement below.. The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to a report captioned, Alleged N1tn diversion: Senate to probe Lamorde’s alleged diversion of N1tn, which appeared in The Punch Newspaper of Monday August 24, 2015 containing salacious claims of corruption against the person of the chairman of the Commission, Ibrahim Lamorde. The EFCC should ordinarily not dignify the publication with a response as the motives of the promoters and their media allies are to impugn the integrity of the EFCC boss with fabricated stories of corruption. However the Commission is constrained to respond, to expose the motive behind the sinister plot. In the first instance, claims of a N1trillion corruption in the EFCC is infantile and assaults the sensibilities of all reasonable stakeholders in the anti- corruption fight. Even if the EFCC had not returned a kobo of recovered assets in its 12 years existence in addition to the yearly appropriated funds from the federation account, it will be nowhere near a trillion naira. This clearly exposes the mission of the so called petitioner as nothing more than mischief, designed to smear Lamorde. More sinister is the discovery that the so called petition did not follow the procedure for consideration by the senate. It was sent, not to the senate but to a member, Senate Peter Nwaoboshi, a first term senator from Delta North. Under the senate rules, petitions meant for consideration by the red chamber are sent to the senate, not to a member of the senate. Also, petitions meant for the senate are tabled at the plenary, before they are referred to the relevant committees for further consideration. In this instance, the senate has been on recess and there is no evidence that the so called petition was considered at plenary and referred to any committee. The EFCC as an agency that is founded on transparency is not afraid of any “probe” or request for information regarding its activities by individuals, groups or organs of government; so far as such requests followed due process of law. The EFCC under Lamorde did not need the prompting of anyone, when it commissioned a reputable international audit firm, KPMG to carry out comprehensive audit of exhibits and forfeited assets of the Commission from 2003 to date. The report of the audit will be made public once it is ready. Were the Commission to be jittery about its records, it would not have embarked on such audit. The EFCC however warns that those who peddle false information with the intent to mislead should be reminded that there is a subsisting law on false information and the consequence for violation is grave.
