If the Nigerian government were to remove four zeros from the naira — similar to what Ghana did — your ₦12,000,000 would be divided by 10,000. Calculation: ₦12,000,000 \div 10,000 = ₦1,200 So, you'd have: ₦1,200 (in the new redenominated naira). Note: Your purchasing power wouldn’t change — prices and salaries would also be adjusted down by the same factor. It's mostly done to simplify transactions and improve perception, not to reduce wealth.

Ghana removed four zeros from its currency in July 2007 through a process called redenomination. Details: Before 2007, Ghana used the old cedi (GHC). In July 2007, the Ghanaian government introduced the new Ghana cedi (GHS) by removing four zeros. 10,000 old cedis = 1 new Ghana cedi (GHS 1.00). This means if you had GHC 100,000 before redenomination, it became GHS 10.00 after. The move aimed to: Simplify financial transactions, Improve accounting and record-keeping, Restore confidence in the currency after years of high inflation. |
