President Jonathan says through the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, Nigerians know what he spends and can ask questions. In a facebook post yesterday, the President noted that the FOI Act had the effect of lifting the veil on the government. President Jonathan also noted that the Act had enabled Nigerians to know how much goverment's ministries, departments and agencies spends. "When i signed the Freedom of Information Law (FOI), it had the effect of lifting the veil on the government. Nigerians now know how much i spend as well as how much is spent by other ministries, departments and agencies of the Federal Government and can ask questions which foster transparency", he said. According to him, efforts were ongoing to "persuade some states who have resisted the domestication of this law to bow to reason and accept this law in practice and in theory". He continued, "It is for these reasons and others that Nigeria, under my watch continues to make steady progress in the anti-corruption war and with your renewed mandate, we will never relent". The President, who has come under heavy critism for his percieved tolerance for corruption, said global best practices over the past decades has proven that corruption is best tackled when opportunites for graft are eliminated. 0700Jesse:The worst thing is dat even channels tv which claims to be d best nigerian news station for years could not even provide 1 picture when reporting the news. |
CNN has not aired any news about the NA dislodging the bokoharam fighters. Although they have it on their website, but not airing the news on bokoharam is unusuall. I may be wrong though. If you watched any please indicate. |
Fellow Nairalanders, I have noticed this since a long time but after today i must share on it. I was waiting to get real and visual reports on today's bokoharam attack only for news stations to just report plainly that bokoharam attacked maiduguri and ended there. Meanwhile far away news stations had their corespondents in Nigeria that had already interviewed maiduguri residents minutes after the attack. My Opinion though. |
Very good, they should not just repel,dy must pursue the idiots with air support and ground troops This is just a tip of the iceberg, cus when the experience general takes over come may 29th it will be their doom.. |

Unknown attackers in Bauchi on Friday set fire to the campaign office of All Progressive Congress, APC, gubernatorial candidate, Mohammed Abubakar, witnesses said. Mr. Abubakar said he believed that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was behind the attack. Some residents of Bauchi told PREMIUM TIMES the arson may be a retaliation of an ealier attact on President Goodluck Jonathan's campaign team in the town. On Thursday, hoodlums hurled shoes, plastic bottles and other objects at the podium were the president and his team sat, as he visited Bauchi for campaigns. The youths later vandalised PDP billboards and posters in the capital, and set fire to a police van. The purpoted revenge attack took place at about 2a.m. on Friday. The unknwon assailants vandalised the Bauchi South Senatorial District campaign office of Mr. Abubakar, located on Kobi Street, after reportedly arriving in three Hilux pickups. One witness said "We woke up and saw the office on fire and all the relevant things in the office had already been burnt and there was nothing we could do at that time to save the situation. We did not envisage that any reasonable person could do such a thing." The APC governorship candidate, Mr. Abubakar described the incident as "unfortunate, barbaric and undemocratic", and said he accused supporters of PDP of being behind the attack. He said the APC is a peaceful party and they are determind to win the governorship elections. "We in APC are not violent people and we are guided by the principle of issue-based campaign and not violence. Our peaceful conduct is already giving us and edge over our opponents and we can never resort to violence at any point of our campaign," he said. The National Publicity Secetary of the All Progressive Congress,APC,chief Lai Muhammed has described the statement of by Fani Kayode that Gen.Muhammadu Buhari should be stripped off his millitary status and privileges for joining the army with fake credentials as laughable. Fani had during a press conference said that Buhari should also be disqualified from the forthcoming presidential election over inability to present his original credentials. Reacting to Fani's assertion while speaking as a guest on channels TV's Sunrise Daily, the APC's spokesman explained that after buhari was overthrown in 1985, his house was ransacked and his documents were either stolen or burnt. According to him, upon his (Buhari) return from exile, he sworn an affidavit to show that his results were missing. "This happened long ago. He was a former Head of State and i don't think he's going to look for job anywhere where they would ask him to bring his original credentials. He swore an affidavit and he tendered it when he contested for presidency in 2003, 2007, and 2011 respectively. So what is the noise about Buhari's credentials? "I also graduated from school over 53 years ago and i don't think i can find my WASC certificate. I think Buhari should be pardoned if he cannot produce his certificates." When reminded that the Electoral Act was amended in 2010, Mohammed responded that Buhari used same affidavit to contest in 2011 without controversy. He claimed that PDP leaders were jittery because of the support Buhari was getting from Nigerians. "I think Femi is too fast. Why is he jittery? PDP is afraid because there's no way they could win the presidential election next month." he added. Source: www.dailypost.ng/?p=214244&wt=2 |
