The kidneys are one of the most important body organs, because they are responsible for the urination process in our organism by filtering the excess of water and body waste.Even though they are so important for our bodies, we don’t take proper care for them, which is testified by the fact that millions of people die of kidney disease every year. In order keep our kidneys healthy many of us must give up of their habits. This is a list of some habits you need to avoid for healthy kidneys: 10 Common Habits that Damage Your KidneysPosted by HealthyFood on January 20, 2015 10 Common Habits that Damage Your Kidneys2015-01-20T03:05:55+00:00 under Health No Comment The kidneys are one of the most important body organs, because they are responsible for the urination process in our organism by filtering the excess of water and body waste.Even though they are so important for our bodies, we don’t take proper care for them, which is testified by the fact that millions of people die of kidney disease every year. In order keep our kidneys healthy many of us must give up of their habits. This is a list of some habits you need to avoid for healthy kidneys: 1. Pain-killer abuse A bad habit that many people have is taking pain-killers for low-grade pain, because most pain-killers can damage different organs, such as kidneys and have severe side effects. A recent research has shown that taking pain – killers pills for a longer period of time reduces blood flow and deteriorates kidney’s function. 2. Too much protein Over-consumption of protein-rich foods and red meat can deteriorate the damaged kidneys condition. A protein-rich diet is essentially healthy unless you suffer from kidney damage and your doctor recommends a protein-restricted diet. The intake of too much protein through the food increases the metabolic load on our kidneys. 3. Smoking The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that smoking is bad for almost every organ of the body, including the kidneys. The connection between kidney disease and smoking has been shown in several studies. 4. Consuming too much sodium Another job for our kidneys is metabolizing the sodium we consume. The majority of our sodium intake needs to be excreted, andthe salt we eat is the prime source of sodium, which means that when we eat excessive salt the kidneys are kept busy excreting sodium, causing long term stress on our kidneys. 5. Ignoring flu and colds A habit that can cause kidney damage is ignoring the common flu and cold. Studies show that people whohave a history of avoiding resting while sick, have kidney disease. 6. Consumption of too much caffeine It is common that whenever we are thirsty we choose to drink other beverages like sodas and soft drinks rather than water. Many of these beverages contain caffeine. High blood pressure puts strain on the kidneys which can damage them, andcaffeine can elevate blood pressure. 7. Too much alcohol consumption When we drink alcohol we often ignore the proper quantity suitable for good health. Too much alcoholic intake is a habit that can severely damage your kidneys. Alcohol is full of toxins that stress our kidneys thus damaging them. 8. Sleeplessness During the night when you sleep, the organs tissues are repairing themselves. Therefore, every time you don’t get good quality sleep, therenewal process is interrupted, resulting in damage to the kidneys and other organs. 9. Drinking inadequate water The biggest contributor to damage that our kidneys bear everyday is not drinking enough water. The main job of our kidneys is to regulate erythrocyte balances and drain metabolic waste from the body. If the body is not properly hydrated, the renal blood flow decreases, resulting in accumulation of toxins in the blood. 10. Long-term full bladder This is a habit that many of us have.Different complications in the urinary tract may arise, if we leave the bladder full of urine for an extended time: one example of such complications is Hypertrophy of detrusor muscle, which may lead to formation of diverticula. Another example which is caused by chronic back pressure on kidneys is Hydronephrosis (increase of urine pressure in kidneys), ultimately resulting in renal dysfunction and even the need for dialysis. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Tuesday said that it would not adopt the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode fully for now, considering the variables involved in conducting its examinations. WAEC’s Head of National Office (HNO), Dr Charles Eguridu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the CBT mode being demanded by some people was not feasible for now. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had, during its 2015 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) recently, migrated fully to the CBT mode. JAMB said that it migrated to the CBT mode to eradicate impersonation and other forms of examination malpractice. According to Eguridu, those making the call are ignorant of the socioeconomic variables that are necessary for the adoption of the CBT for WAEC examinations. He said: “WAEC examinations involve the use of multiple choice questions, essay and practical, in which case we test various domains of learning. “And with this, it is not going to be valid to test certain domains of learning with CBT. “Or can you use CBT in measuring proficiency in certain trade subjects such as carpentry and others? ’’ The official said that the inadequacy of internet connectivity and constant electricity in the country, especially in rural areas, would make such a venture almost impossible. Eguridu said that the huge capital outlay that would be required to provide computers and its accessories for every candidate nationwide makes the cost of the venture prohibitive. “All what I am trying to explain here is that it will not be possible for us to adopt the CBT mode for our examinations at least for now. “Probably what we will do as an organisation is to adopt the CBT for certain aspects of our examination and not all the areas. “We are already trying to work out something based on that,” he said. I am preparing Valuation for an agency. How do I handle a variation claim on substructure that has been paid when preparing the next interim Valuation. Shoud I add the variation claim paid, to the intial substructure figure in the BOQ? Or add the sum of the variation claim figure to the over all total cost of the project then deduct the variation claim along with mobilization before arriving at current valuation? |

By KINGSLEY OMONOBI, ABUJA. •Camps had hospitals, dormitories, arms depot & fuel dumps. •Troops liberate six children, three women held hostage in Sambisa forest As the military continued its quest to dislodge the Boko Haram terrorists from the north eastern part of the country, the Defence Headquarters Friday said that soldiers have taken over all the camps where the insurgents operated from in Northern and Central parts of Borno State. This was even as the military said yesterday that soldiers would soon carry out a military exercise code-named Operation Thunderstorm ‘on the Abuja-Jere-Kaduna expressway. Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Chris Olukolade who spoke in an interview with newsmen, also said that troops on the special operations, stormed the notorious Sambisa forest area and rescued six children and three women kidnapped by the terrorists about three weeks ago. According to Brig-General Olukolade who was part of a seven- man Assessment Team led by Maj-General Lawrence Ngubane, that visited the operation areas in the last three days, the troops were currently combing the vast Sambisa forest which is about 16 square kilometres. Olukolade said that the team discovered during the assessment visit, that most of the Boko Haram camps contained dormitories where the terrorists slept, hospitals, fuel dumps, vehicles, materials for manufacturing Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDS, and vehicles either stolen or snatched. Explaining that the operation to rid Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states of terrorists was being carried out in phases, he further noted that the exercise was being carried out in accordance with the rules of engagement, as there had been no civilian casualty since the terrorists camps were located either at the outskirts of town, or the Sambisa forest and bushes. Olukolade said that civilians running across the borders or elsewhere were free to do so provided they were not terrorists, armed or carrying IEDS or ammunition. His words, “During our visit to the operational areas, we confirmed that our troops have taken over all the camps where Boko Haram terrorists operated from in the northern and central parts of Borno State. Our soldiers did a thorough and professional job. “Efforts by the troops, after overrunning three terrorists camps in the notorious Sambisa forest area of Central Borno led to the freeing of nine persons, six children and three women. “The women and children who were kidnapped from police barracks and environs during the May 7 attack on Bama, had been held in the camp since their abduction and were featured in the video by Abubakar Shekau recently who said they will not be freed. Troops combing the forest are however yet to locate one woman and her two children. As for people crossing to the border, if civilians run across the border and they are not terrorists, we do not have any problem with that. “The operation is solely targeted at terrorist camps and enclaves in the forests, bushes and other outskirts. If you are found in a camp or enclave or you are found with arms, ammunition or IED, you cannot tell us that you are a civilian.” Describing the response of Boko Haram terrorists to the military onslaught as ‘’feeble,’’ Olukolade said however that going by the weaponry recovered after the camps were overrun, “They have graduated from light weapons to heavy weaponry like anti-aircraft guns, anti-tank guns, mounted long range guns and sophisticated explosives”. On the response of the people of the areas that have so far been liberated from the terrorists, Olukolade said, “The people spoken to described Boko Haram as invaders. They said most of them are not Nigerians; that they are from Chad, Niger. They expressed joy at seeing Nigerian soldiers come to their rescue. Our troops have complied with the rules guiding the operation. We went there out of concern to be sure there are no violations of any kind. There is no civilian casualty. The society is isolated from any form of crisis except at the camps and they are located at the outskirts. Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Azubuike Ihejirika, today revealed that some soldiers have been interacting with Boko Haram insurgents and divulging vital secrets of the army’s military operations. General Ihejirika made the startling revelation in Abuja at a seminar on personnel management and development organized by the Army Transformation and Innovation Center. The COAS, who was deeply distressed by the development, stressed that soldiers who collaborated with Boko Haram militants had hampered military operations, even causing the death of soldiers. A few months ago, some soldiers traveling from Akure to Kachia in Kaduna State to train prior to deployment in neighboring Mali were ambushed and killed in Okene, Kogi State. The COAS disclosed that a soldier had supplied information about the troops’ movement to the insurgents, enabling Boko Haram insurgents to mount a surprise and successful attack. A military source told SaharaReporters that the Army had arrested one of the major culprits who provided critical information that led to Boko Haram’s attack in Okene. “We have not released details of the soldier caught in the act, but I assure you he has been apprehended and will be court-marshaled,” said our source. Our source added that some soldiers had also been identified posting negative comments on the Internet even as other rogue soldiers were communicating with insurgents and giving them information on the movements of troops. General Ihejirika warned soldiers to desist from disloyal acts, vowing to deal decisively with those found culpable. He added that, with Nigeria’s present security challenges, it was not acceptable for the Army to lose operatives to dismissals. He therefore urged soldiers to be forthright and professional in their activities. The COAS said that he had advised commanders to take it easy in dismissing soldiers, but insisted that if a soldier’s misconduct was disloyal, then the Army would have no choice than to dismiss and jail him. General Ihejirika revealed that, as part of its readiness for the security challenges, the Army was training more than 1000 amphibious soldiers to operate in waterways. In addition, the Army was establishing a reserved battalion to be led by a Colonel, supported by 25 other officers, and building 176 Battalion at Gwagwalada in Abuja. Earlier, the Chief of Army Transformation and Innovation, Major-General Ibrahim Sani, remarked that active digitalized road blocks/ checkpoints have been set up to ensure close monitoring of the movements of criminals, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), arms and ammunitions. He added that the new equipment would reduce the traffic hardship to road users in the country. Without tribal, ethnic, religious and all forms sentiment, in my own opinion and assessment, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi (SLS) has done beautifully well in the management of Nigeria's financial sector. standing out among many of his policies is the cashless policy. what is your view on his Nigeria's banking and financial sector management.
