the fact is that the inverter you are getting aint really the matter, the matter is the type of battery you are getting and are your equipment energy saving. no matter how good your inverter is you would neva know unless your batteries are good.
Lets say you have a 32inch plasma 150 watts tv on a 40amp battery it should give you 3.2hours(considering the inveter is electronically invisible) and you have a 60watts led tv on same battery it will give you 8hours(considering the inveter is electronically invisible).

Let me give an instance you use a
60watts Led tv,
Gotv 20watts
4 15watts bulbs= 60 watts
2 energy fans 55 watts each
Total wattage.

Breakdown 1tv, 2 lights and fans in the sitting Room and one fan and light bedroom and one light kitchen.

Because of the similarity of the terms and the fact that many people use them almost interchangeably, there seems to be quite a bit of confusion among consumers as to what the difference is between a generator, an inverter and an inverter generator. And once you know what the difference is, which one is better? We’ll try to provide succinct, informative answers to these questions here, so read on!

Generators
Conventional generators have been around for quite a while, and the basic concept behind them has remained essentially unchanged. They consist of an energy source, usually a fossil fuel such as diesel, propane or gasoline, which powers a motor attached to an alternator that produces electricity. The motor must run at a constant speed (usually 3600 rpm) to produce the standard current that most household uses require (in the U.S., typically 120 Volts AC @ 60 Hertz). If the engine’s rpm fluctuates, so will the frequency (Hertz) of electrical output.

Inverters
A traditional inverter draws power from a fixed DC source (typically a comparatively fixed source like a car battery or a solar panel), and uses electronic circuitry to “invert” the DC power into the AC power. The converted AC can be at any required voltage and frequency with the use of appropriate equipment, but for consumer-level applications in the U.S., the most common combination is probably taking the 12V DC power from car, boat or RV batteries and making it into the 120V AC power required for most everyday uses.


Inverter Generators
Inverter generators are a relatively recent development, made possible by advanced electronic circuitry and high-tech magnets. These are generally 3-phase generators that output AC current like most traditional generators, but that current is then converted to DC, and then “inverted” back to clean AC power that maintains a single phase, pure sine wave at the required voltage and frequency.

Because these units employ the technologies used by both generators and inverters, they are perhaps most correctly called “inverter generators” but since people tend to simplify terminology, “inverter generator” often gets clipped, sometimes to “inverter” and sometimes to “generator” which leads to confusion as to what is what and which one is being discussed. In spite of this lack of clarity, both terms are commonly used to refer to inverter generators, even by the manufacturers. (As a side note, it should be mentioned that Inverter Generators are also sometimes called "I-Generators", but seriously, don't we already have enough "I-things" in this world!)

Unfortunately, we won’t be able to settle this debate over nomenclature here, but you should be aware of the terminology when you’re dealing with the topic of consumer-level electrical power generation.

Overview
Here's a quick overview of the differences between conventional generators and inverter generators.




OK – But Which One is Better?
First, we’ll leave traditional plain old inverters aside, as they are not suitable for most applications you might have in mind when you are looking for a “generator”, and we’ll focus on a comparison of the two types of machines that can properly be called “electric generators”.

So what’s better: conventional, tried and true generators, or the newer inverter-style generators. Well, as is often the case, there is not just one answer to this question. It depends on a number of factors, including what applications you have in mind and your budget. Let’s take a look at a number of important considerations and how each type of generator stacks up for each of them.

Size / Weight / Portability
Many of the new inverter generators are surprisingly small and lightweight for the electrical generation punch that they pack. Sizes of just a couple of cubic feet and weights in the 30 to 50 pound range are not uncommon today. This means that they are a breeze to transport and store, and while you might not want to take one on a hike, they will easily fit in your car, boat or RV. In contrast, many conventional generators are heavy and bulky, often requiring a substantial metal frame and wheels. While they are technically portable in that they can be moved from place to place, they lack the convenience factor of the smaller, lighter inverters.

Fuel Efficiency / Run Times
Conventional generators are often designed simply to get a certain amount of power where it is needed, and to keep the power on. Factors like the size of the unit have not been a major consideration. This has meant that conventional designs can often accommodate sizeable fuel tanks, with the obvious result being relatively long run times. Inverters on the other hand are frequently designed from the get-go to be compact and lightweight. This means they can’t have a big, heavy fuel tank. The obvious result of a more limited fuel capacity is shorter run times. Nevertheless, inverters’ fuel-efficient engines and their ability to adjust engine speed to the load at hand (conventional units generally run at 3600 rpm regardless of the load) means they make better use of the fuel they do have (savings can be as much as 40%), and their run times of 8 to 10 hours and more are generally more than adequate for their applications. A more fuel-efficient generator also helps to reduce exhaust emissions .

Noise
The issue of noise is one that truly separates the two categories of generators. Inverter generators are often designed from the ground up to be comparatively quiet. Quieter engines, special mufflers, and sound-dampening technology are used to reduce noise to amazingly low levels. In addition, conventional models have to run at a constant speed (typically 3600 rpm) in order to produce electricity with the desired characteristics (120VAC @ 60Hz in most cases). If the engine speed varies, the qualities of the power generated also change, which is clearly undesirable, so the engine speed must remain constant, and with that comes the constant noise of a generator running at full speed. Inverters, on the other hand, can adjust the electrical characteristics of the power produced using microprocessors and special electronics. This means that the engine can throttle back when the load is light, saving fuel and substantially reducing noise. The Yamaha EF2000iS, for example, produces just 51.5 decibels of sound when running at ¼ load (about the same as human conversation), and only about 60 decibels when running at full load. (An electric razor is rated at 68 decibels!) In contrast, many conventional generators are rated at 65 to 75 decibels – the same range that includes chain saws and jet engines!

Max Power Output
Conventional generators come in just about any size you want, from 500 watts up to 50,000 watts and higher. Inverter generators’ focus on quiet operation and portability means that their maximum output possibilities are more limited – they are mainly available in 1000 to 4000 watt models.

Quality of Power Produced
A conventional generator is nothing more than an engine connected to an alternator and run at a speed that produces the desired AC frequency, regardless of the load on it (as the load increases the engine throttles up to keep the engine speed the same). The output of the alternator is connected directly to the load, without any processing.

With an inverter generator, the engine is connected to an efficient alternator, which produces AC electricity, just like a conventional generator. But then a rectifier is used to convert the AC power to DC and capacitors are used to smooth it out to a certain degree. The DC power is then “inverted” back into clean AC power of the desired frequency and voltage (e.g., 110-120VAC @ 60Hz). Regulation is very good and this system produces consistent power characteristics independent of the engine speed. The result is much “cleaner” power (“pure sine waves”) than is possible with a conventional generator, essentially the same quality of electricity that you typically get from your electric company. Why is this important? Well, more and more products today use some form of microprocessor. Not just your computer, but also your phones, TVs, game consoles, printers, DVD players, and even kitchen appliances and power tools. And all these microprocessors are very sensitive to the quality of the electricity they use. Using power that isn't "clean" can make these devices malfunction, or even damage them. So any application that uses sensitive electronics – and that includes a lot more things than you might think – will likely benefit substantially from the cleaner power provided by an inverter generator.

Parallel Operation
Many inverters, like the Yamaha EF2000iS generator, can be paired with another identical unit to double your power capacity. This type of parallel capability means you can use two smaller, lighter generators to provide the same wattage and amperage of one much larger generator – without sacrificing all the benefits of the smaller, lighter, quieter, more portable inverter units. Conventional units simply can’t offer this feature. Note that you will need a special cable to connect your generators, which is generally not (never, that we're aware of) supplied with the generator, but is available at extra cost. Simplicity of Design and Construction
While there is no evidence that inverter generators are overly complex or that they have a higher failure rate than conventional types, it is true that some people see simplicity of design and construction as an advantage for a conventional design. Since conventional models are basically just a motor with an alternator attached, they are fundamentally simple machines – simple to run, maintain and repair. The motor just cranks along at a standard rpm, usually 3600, and there are not usually any complicated controls, electronics or other things to go wrong. That said, inverter generators have been around for a number of years now. The technologies they use are generally well-tested, and inverters have not demonstrated any significant reliability issues in comparison with traditional designs. So whether simplicity in design and construction is an advantage or a negligible issue is really just a matter of personal preference.

Price
With all their advantages, inverter generators must have a downside, right? Well, if there is one, it is probably cost – an inverter generator simply costs more than a conventional one with a similar power rating. So the benefits – portability and convenience, fuel-efficiency, much lower noise levels, and so on – do come at a price. In weighing which type of generator is right for you, you'll have to look at your application and your budget. Only you can decide if the higher price tag is worth the extra features and benefits. But judging from the soaring popularity of inverter generators, and the excellent reviews that models like the Yamaha EF2000iS consistently receive, it is clear that more and more people are deciding that the advantages are definitely worth the higher price tag.

Both conventional and inverter generators have some inherent advantages and drawbacks. We think the criteria we’ve discussed in this article are the most critical ones in choosing which technology is right for you. Again, it’s up to you to weigh the pros and cons. If all you need is to get some power someplace where there isn’t any, and you are more concerned with dollars than decibels, a conventional unit may be the way to go for you. Windows-based all-in-one PCs once earned little respect. While most of today's AIOs still lack the graphics horsepower for hard-core gaming (we'll show you one exception), the best models are far removed from the 98-pound weaklings of yore.

Many AIOs use laptop parts, which minimize heat, power consumption, and the need for noisy cooling fans. If you crave more performance, pick a model that uses desktop components (the ones we've tested are still relatively quiet). Either way, everything—the CPU, memory, storage, and optical drive—is housed in the same unit as the display, so the computer's footprint equals that of a monitor. And since most all-in-ones ship with a Wi-Fi adapter as well as a wireless mouse and keyboard, the only cable they require is a power cord.

All-in-one specifications are a blend of what you'll find in conventional desktop systems and laptop PCs. The thinnest and most compact systems are almost completely built around the same power-efficient technology as laptops.

Here's our checklist of specs to look for when you go shopping for your all-in-one, followed by some tips and recommendations:
The specs explained
Display: Unlike with traditional desktop PCs, with an all-in-one computer, what you see is what you get—for the life of the PC. With few exceptions, you'll never be able to upgrade without chucking the entire machine, so choose accordingly. In addition to multitouch capabilities (to support Windows cool, you should consider three other key factors: display technology, display resolution, and display size.

LCD panels that employ IPS (in-plane switching) or PLS (plane-line switching) technology are vastly superior to those based on TN (twisted nematic) technology. IPS and PLS displays are more expensive, and you might find them only in larger all-in-ones, but they are worth every cent.

The all-in-one you buy should deliver graphics resolution of at least 1920 by 1080 pixels. Movies, digital photos, websites, and productivity apps will look great at this resolution on a 23- or 24-inch display. Move up to a 27-inch model, however, and you'll be able to make out the individual pixels because they'll be spaced farther apart to fill the larger area. A few high-end AIO models, such as Dell's XPS One, provide higher resolution—2560 by 1440 pixels—on their 27-inch displays.

CPU: Desktop or mobile? Choose an all-in-one with a desktop processor if you intend to perform in-depth photo editing, manipulate complex spreadsheets, or engage in other computing-intensive tasks. If your work is less demanding, an AIO built on a mobile CPU will be thinner and quieter, and will consume less power. Faster clock speeds buy incremental performance within a particular class, but your desktop-versus-mobile decision affects performance the most.

Memory: Look for systems with at least 6GB to 8GB of memory. Most all-in-ones offer relatively straightforward memory expansion, so you can add more if you need it; but you might discover that a limited number of memory slots will force you to replace existing memory modules with higher-capacity ones, rather than add to existing DRAM.

Graphics: Buy an AIO with discrete graphics if you plan on any serious gaming; models with integrated graphics hardware won’t be up to the task. Note, however, that the limited airflow in an AIO design typically restricts the manufacturer to using a mobile graphics processing unit. Such GPUs can run 3D games, but you will need to dial down the resolution and detail levels to achieve acceptable frame rates.

To date, we know of only one AIO PC that uses all desktop components, including a top-of-the-line Nvidia GeForce GT 680 GPU: the Maingear Alpha. We expect to get one of these machines into the PCWorld Labs for a hands-on-review soon.

Storage: Most AIOs use mobile hard drives, which trade capacity and performance for smaller size and cooler operating temperatures than desktop PCs. You’ll want at least 1TB of storage. We’ve seen only a few AIO PCs outfitted with solid-state drives, but some higher-end models use small SSDs as a persistent cache for higher-capacity mechanical drives.

Optical drives: Entry-level AIOs come with DVD burners/players. Upscale models should come with a least a Blu-ray player (if not a Blu-ray burner). If you're buying a custom configuration and don't think you'll ever watch Blu-ray movies on your computer, you can save a few dollars by including a less-expensive DVD burner in your machine.

Connectivity: Only the most basic AIO won’t have an integrated Wi-Fi adapter. If the machine you choose lacks one, you can add it by plugging in an aftermarket USB adapter (choose either 802.11n or—for a future-proof network—an 802.11ac model). Bluetooth support is convenient for connecting Bluetooth printers, tablets, and smartphones.

I/O ports: The all-in-one you select should have at least two USB 3.0 ports, but the more, the better (either USB 2.0 or USB 3.0). An eSATA port will enable you to attach a very fast, high-capacity, external mechanical hard drive. A flash memory card reader (SD, Compact Flash, Memory Stick, and the like) is another welcome feature, since it can make quick work of copying files from your digital camera or camcorder.

HDMI: An HDMI input lets you connect a gaming console, a cable or satellite set-top box, a camcorder, or another digital video source to your all-in-one to take advantage of the computer’s display. Models that allow you to use the display without turning on the computer will consume less power. HDMI-out is a less common feature on AIOs, but you could use it to drive a second display.

TV tuner: An onboard TV tuner lets you watch over-the-air broadcasts on the AIO’s display. If you subscribe to cable or satellite TV, however, you’ll be much happier plugging a set-top box into the machine’s HDMI input.
Buying tips
Avoid buying last year’s models: Although you can score a big discount on an older model, buying an outdated AIO is problematic. It’s unlikely to come with Windows 8 installed, and it probably won't have the type of multitouch display you’ll want to use with Windows 8 should decide to update your OS later.

Remember that you can’t upgrade: Upgrading a desktop PC is easy, particularly if you want to improve its graphics, storage, display, or optical drive. With few exceptions (such as the aforementioned Maingear Alpha), upgrading an all-in-one is at least as difficult as upgrading a laptop. The key is to buy as much computer as you can afford, so that you won’t outgrow it too quickly.

Selecting the right inverter for your home has become a tough task these days. There are so many terms we need to understand - 800VA/ 1000VA, Tubular Batteries/ Flat Batteries, Half Load/ Full Load and the list goes on. And on top of all these, availability of multiple power back up solutions and misleading information provided by sellers have further added to buyers woes. So I did some research and study before buying an inverter for my home and I'm sharing the details of same so that you don't have to go through the same problems while buying an inverter.
So What do You Need - UPS or Inverter?

This is one of the basic confusion people face, so let me start with answering this first. UPS and Inverter are words used interchangeably though there are not exactly same. UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) is just a system which allows INSTANT switchover to the power back-up source in case of a power failure. The power back-up source can be a battery or something else. Whereas an Inverter is a system which converts direct current to alternate current hence enables using a battery for backing up equipments running on AC power supply. Inverter uses a battery to provide power back-up. Computer UPS comes with in-built battery which works as back-up power source and can provide back-up for 15min. to 30 min. So if that much of back-up is sufficient for you, you should be fine with buying just a UPS for your need. But Inverter comes with more powerful battery and can provide support for electrical equipments, computers, home appliances etc. and also gives more hours of back-up. Most of the inverters come with in-built UPS which ensures that power failure doesn't cause fluctuation and your system switches instantly to Inverter's Power Back up battery.
What Capacity of Inverter is Good for Your Home?

Once you are sure that you are looking for an Inverter, it's important to calculate the capacity of Inverter that will suit your requirement. Following table will give you brief idea about the power consumed by various equipments.

Now I'll explain you how to use above table to calculate the right capacity Inverter for your need. Let's say you need Inverter to run 2 Tube lights, 3 Fans, 1TV and 1 Laptop. As per the table above, you'll need a total power of 550W(=2X60 + 3X70 + 1X120 + 1X100) to support all of your equipments at the same time.

♣ Your Total Power Need = 550W
2. Calculating required inverter's capacity

Now that you know how much power is required, it's easy to get the VA rating of inverter. In ideal condition, the VA rating would have been same as the power need i.e. 550VA. But in practical conditions, the power factor of Inverter is less than 1 hence power supplied by 550VA Inverter won't be 550W but lesser than that. Assuming power factor of Inverter to be 0.7, following are the details of calculation -

Required VA of Inverter X 0.7 = 550W

♣ Required VA of Inverter = 550/0.7 = 786 VA

Now luckily we have inverters available in the market with 800VA capacity, so such inverters will fit into my requirement.
3. Calculating battery capacity

Till now, you will have clear understanding of the Inverter capacity required for your need. But the next question is that how much back up will the inverter provide and for how many hours you can run all of your equipments. And that's where battery capacity comes into picture. It's the battery which determines the back-up hours. The higher capacity battery you have, the more back-up hours you'll get. So lets get into the calculation fast.

Required power(in Wattage) X Required back-up hours(in Hours) = Inverter Voltage(in Voltage) X Battery Capacity (in Ampere Hours)

Let's look for an Inverter which can give back-up of up to 3 hours, so for our case -

550W X 3Hours = 12V X Battery Capacity

♣ Battery Capacity = (550 X 3)/12 = 137 Ampere Hours

So we need a battery of 137AH capacity but if you check the market you'll find batteries of 130AH capacity. So that should be more or less sufficient for your need.
Conclusion

Finally, we have come to the conclusion that if we go for 800VA Inverter with 130AH battery, I can run 2 Tube lights, 3 Fans, 1 TV and 1 Laptop for up to 3 hours. And by the end of this article you don't need to rely on sellers for understanding your need as you can do the calculations yourself in just 3 simple steps.
