Barcelona bringing in Luuk de Jong to replace Griezmann was a good deal. Had those two deals been completed earlier Messi would still be in Barcelona. The question is why now?

Atletico Madrid have re-signed forward Antoine Griezmann from Barcelona on an initial one-year loan with the option for a second year and an obligation to make it a permanent transfer.

There were doubts over whether Atletico and Barça had completed the deal in time, while the nature of the transfer also changed late in the day as it was initially arranged as a one-year loan with only an option to buy.

The loan extension can be triggered by either side and Atletico will pay all of the player's wages.
