Creating strong passwords for all your online accounts is not a thing you should do. It is a thing you MUST do. Two months ago, my friend Google account was hacked into. The hackers changed his password and blocked his access to the account. Few months back, a popular website was also hacked into and the hacker wrote "this site is for sale for #5. In case you are still thinking that your password is strong and safe, maybe it’s time to wake up. •What makes a strong password? A strong password must constitute the following: •It needs to contain special characters such as @#$%^& •It must be at least 8 characters long. •It must not have any common words such as 123, password, your birth date, your login name and any words that can be found in the dictionary. a variation of capitalization and small letters In my opinion, even if your password consists of the above, it is still not enough. Your password needs to be totally unique and different for each and every one of your online accounts. This is to make sure that in the event that one account is hacked into, your other accounts will not be affected. You must be wondering how you are going to remember so many passwords when you have a problem remembering your existing one. Here are some steps that I have used and they are very powerful. 1. First, think of a thing, date, phrase, event, place or anything that is unique only to you. It must be at least 8 characters long. I call this the salt term. For demonstration purposes, I will use my name 'calebmoney'. I you have a capital letter and spaces in your sort term, note that the capital letters and the space in between the name are part of the salt term. For your own account, please select a salt term that is difficult for other to guess. 2. I used the following rules to replace the regular characters with special characters. You can form your own rule. •Replace all the ‘a’ with @ •Replace all the ‘s’ with $ •Repalce any space with % •Replace any ‘o’ with 0 •Replace any ‘i’ with ! •Replace any e with € In this case, the simple term calebmoney becomes c@l€bm0n€y. To be continued.... Source: www.calebmoney..com |
Getting hacked is an unfortunate part of being on the Internet today. The hard truth is that if you want to stay 100 percent digitally secure, then stay off the Internet. But it’s not all that bad, by using some simple, yet effective security measures, you can make any hackers dream of getting into your accounts, an absolute nightmare. Bellow are ways to prevent hackers from accessing your online accounts: 1: Always Use Strong Passwords The sheer amount of people that still use extremely basic passwords is astonishing. For example, I recently had a client whose password for PayPal was something along the lines of “123456” even the most inexperienced of hackers could break that password in a matter of minutes. The least you can do is to create a strong and easy to remember password, which is a lot simpler than you think. For example changing an “S” for an “$”, or using a zero instead of an “o” will immediately make your passwords a lot more difficult to crack. By applying this method, we can easily change my client’s password to something still easy to remember, yet much more difficult to crack. If you’re stuck for password ideas, then you could always use a pronounceable password generator to help you create a strong password that is easy to remember. 2. Make Your Passwords Unique What’s the point in having an incredibly difficult password if you’re using the same password across all online accounts? Say for example, that you were unlucky enough to be one of the 250,000 Twitter accounts that got hacked recently. If this hacker got hold of your password and it was the same for everything else, they could get into all of your online accounts very easily, and once they’re in, it’s very difficult for you to gain control again. Tuesday's meeting between striking university lecturers and the federal government delegation did not resolve any of the contending issues. At the penultimate meeting last week, the government's delegation had set up a sub-committee headed by the Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, to review the areas of controversy in the 2009 agreement between the lecturers and the government. While the lecturers, members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, insist on the full implementation of the 2009 agreement, the government wants a renegotiation of some parts of the agreement. On Tuesday's meeting, the President of ASUU, Nasir Fagge, said the meeting was postponed because the sub-committee did not finish their task and so there was "nothing much to discuss." He confirmed that the meeting had been adjourned to Tuesday next week and explained that ASUU was not part of the sub-committee. Mr. Suswam had said last week that the ASUU strike could be called off in two weeks when his committee, which is same as that set up the federal government on the NEEDS assessment of universities, completes its task. The committee has already recommended an immediate ingestion of about N1 billion on capital and educational projects in six chosen universities across the six geo-political zones, a project expected to launched by President Goodluck Jonathan soon. Mr. Suswam and the federal government have repeatedly appealed to the lecturers, whose strike entered its sixth week, to call off the strike. However, the ASUU president, while reacting to the appeals of students and the government to call off the strike while negotiations continue, said, "If the government does what is right, the strike will be called off tomorrow; So it is in the hands of the government." |
Ebenezer Obe and Chocolate city rapper M.I perform together on stage at the launch of Ebony Live TV on Sunday June 30 at the Eko Hotel and Suites Victoria Island At the performance with rapper M.I musician Ebanaze Obey has showed some health problems: he had difficulty seeing and walking alone. But many mouths opened for two reasons as he and M.I spent their time on stage - surprise about the combo of both brilliant music makers, and wonderment about what is troubling the great Miliki exponent. There had been rumours, since his joint concert with on Sunday May 27 that Obey was battling Parkinson's - a nervous system disorder that causes tremors and difficulty with walking. Although nothing was confirmed officially, and Obey vehemently denied reports he was battling ill health. "His condition is a well known fact and he's been managing it well for years, with the help of family members and friends," sources told NET. The reports went viral shortly after his wife died in 2011. But Obey insisted he was more than okay. He told The Punch, "It has become a regular practice every month to spread sinister rumours about me. But, why me? One month, they will say this has happened to Obey; another month, they say that has happened to Obey. Yet, I am fine. The Lord I'm serving is a good God and He is good to me. I'm fine and well. "I don't mind people writing about me, but I get disturbed when people just sit down and write anything that comes to their imagination and publish. They said the death of my wife had taken a toll on my health which was all speculation." It was gathered he's also had to undergo an operation on his eye - and those who saw him at the Ebony Life launch wondered if he could use the eyes at all. When he was announced, M.I and one aide helped him on stage. He held a walking stick. He also needed help to climb the stairs as he exited the stage after their performance. "When I had eye surgery, it was as if I was the only person in the world who ever did it. People were saying that Obey had gone blind, why? Even if somebody is blind, when has it become a crime? But I'm not blind. I can see that you are wearing a red shirt over a pair of light blue trousers, while my sister has a flowery blouse. A blind man cannot see all those things. And they continue to say their enemy is blind. I'm not blind; I have an eye ailment, which anybody can have. There are millions of people in the world with various eye ailments. Even at 70, a man that is 50 may not even look good as I do. I look at myself at the mirror and I know I'm good looking and I know my God is making me more beautiful," he told The Punch in an interview last year. All through the interesting performance, it was clear he was not the man we used to know. Ebenezer Obey has never been known to occupy a stage like KSA; but he was also not one to stand on a spot and sing. That night, it seemed he was under great discomfort, and many wondered why the organisers gave him such trouble. Chocolate City rapper, M.I. who was excited to have mounted the stage with the legend told our reporter, "Performing with him was a humbling experience for me. It made me appreciate the quality of the music He has brought juju music into the mainstream, cutting across language and cultures. That's the beauty of music, that's what is legendary about him. His work is timeless". His post-Ebony Life appearances have also caused the concerns to grow. Those who saw him speak at the COSON events in May attest he needed aid walking; and in June, there were unconfirmed reports his children had requested he put a stop to performances. But the musician would have none of that - He told Nigerian Entertainment Today he's off to the US this week for a scheduled gig in New York. He said in a phone conversation: "All l I can say is that God has made me well. Thank you". Now 71 (he was born on April 3, 1942) Obey is one of the most remarkable Nigerian musicians ever, using Juju music to teach lessons, inspire a nation, create enjoyment and build talents for many years before he switched to Gospel music after he became an evangelist in 1992 For more informations, visit: www.calebmoney..com

ABUJA—Executive members of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, have disowned the national president, Mr. Yinka Gbadebo, on his support for the Federal Government in the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. Some members of the executive told newsmen, yesterday, that students were largely unbiased in the crisis and the inclination of Mr. Gbadebo to support the government was a deviation from the students’ collective goal of resolving the crisis. The executive members who included national assistant secretary general, Ali Mohammed , the national sports director, Talib Abubakar Gumel, director of travels and exchange, Olusegun Oyebisi, said there was no consultation on the issues before Gbadebo declared NANS support for the Federal Government. The students also dissociated NANS as a body from the ongoing face off between officials of the Federal Government and the Rivers State government saying that their president did not have any right to speak on the issue. “The national president did not have our mandate to support the federal government over the strike as we are a neutral body. We do not support either the federal government or ASUU because it is the students that bear the brunt of the strike,” Ali who spoke on behalf of his colleagues said yesterday. “We call on ASUU and the Federal Government to resolve the issue within seven days so that the students can return to their campuses.” “We do not understand why the national president should support the federal government or what concerns students with what is happening between the Rivers State governor and the President. The matter is between the two of them it does concern the students. Source: Vanguard. |
A senior Nigerian judge serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Gambia, Joseph Wowo, has been sacked for soliciting a N2.5 million (500,000 Dalasi) bribe from a Gambian-based Dutch businessman in return for a favourable judgment in a land dispute case Mr. Wowo, also a former President of the Gambia Court of Appeal, was caught on tape holding a surreptitious meeting with the former Gambian Justice Minister, Lamin Jobarteh (who has also been sacked), a Dutch national, André Klaarbergen, and his Nigerian Lawyer simply identified as Mene, negotiating the price of subverting the judgment of a Gambian High Court over a land dispute case, which Mr. Wowo agrees the Dutch rightly lost. "How much are you willing to offer first so that we can negotiate," Mr Wowo was heard saying on tape, now posted on Youtube. "You know my position based on my position I'm not even supposed to come here in the first place. I'm the President of the court of Appeal and now I'm acting Chief Justice," he continued, openly admitting he was sabotaging the course of justice by even agreeing to be at the meeting. "I've read your file at the Court of Appeal, [and] that is why I said you don't have any case at the Court of Appeal. You will lose at the court of Appeal because the way they deal with the case at the Court of Appeal, the lawyer messed it up. That is why I called your lawyer and said let us see how we can help you," confirming that the lower court had made the right call in the case. Mr Jobarteh then cuts in and suggested a quick resolution of the matter. "The fact of the matter is that the error has been made and it's irrecoverable. The issue now is how can we meet each other to correct the problem," he said. Mr. Wowo then demanded a bribe of 2.5 million Dalasi (N12.3 million) but Mr Klaarbergen, who complained that his business had been slow lately, offered to pay 500,000 Dalasi. The disgraced Attorney-General, with a tone of threat, then appealed to Mr Wowo to accept the bribe. "Come a time you people will come running to me and in view of all other consideration and the man financial predicament now, I appeal to you to accept the 500,000. "Because of Justice Jobarteh, honourable minister, that is why I'm accepting," Mr Wowo replied. Even when the Dutch businessman expressed some reluctance and suggested talking to his partner, Justice Wowo asked him to "go and borrow" if he could not raise the agreed bribe. Fearing prosecution, Mr Wowo is feared to have fled the Gambia furtively. His whereabouts is currently unknown, and he did not respond to PREMIUM TIMES' series of calls to his Gambian mobile telephone. Guinness and Brandy However, the Wowo bribery transaction also revealed a flabby underside and worldliness of the Nigerian judge. Once he was satisfied that the bribery deal had gone well, Mr. Wowo then complained about the choice of drink on offer. "You didn't bring my choice. Me I take only Guinness and brandy." When his host (Mr Jobarteh) offered to give him non-alcoholic wine apparently due to his religious leaning, Mr. Wowo complained that it would "run my stomach" and jocularly threatened to sue his host if that happens. Nigerian Mercenary Judges The report of the scandal in the Gambian media shows that Mr. Wowo and other Nigerian judicial officers have tainted reputation in that West African country. Many Gambian newspapers openly refer to Nigerians working as legal personnel in the country with derogatory monikers such as "The Nigerian Mercenary Judges", "the Nigerian Mafia" and the "Nigerian cowboys". The President of Gambia, Yayah Jammeh, had on June 13 named Mr. Wowo as replacement for another Nigerian, Akomaye Emanuel Agim. A source that asked not to be named told that Mr. Wowo was allegedly instrumental to the removal of Mr. Agim as the Chief Justice of the Gambia after he reported on him to Mr Jammeh. With his removal from office the somewhat astronomical career growth of the 47- year old judge came to a disgraceful end. Mr Wowo, a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, was called to bar in 1991 and after a stint in private practice in the Gambia, he was appointed a Principal State Counsel and Deputy Head of the Civil Division Ministry of Justice, Banjul, The Gambia from 1998 - 2001. In 2007 he was appointed a High Court Judge, Criminal Division from where he became the President of the Court of Appeal. The Gambia, West African smallest country of less than two million people, lack qualified citizens to hold key positions, especially in the judiciary. So it has, since independence in 1965, hired many Nigerians to work as senior judges, and presidents of its Court of Appeals and Chief Justices of the country. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e59rQ3BjCqE&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3De59rQ3BjCqE

There are indications that the on-going strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities might be called off next Thursday. Governor of Benue State, Mr Gabriel Suswam who dropped this hint Friday said ASUU and the Federal Government had reached agreements on all the contentious issues that led to the industrial action except two. Suswam who was appointed as Chairman of the Needs Assessment Implementation Committee of the Federal Government said after next Thursday’s deliberations between his Committee and the various agencies of government funding tertiary education, all the contentious issues would likely be resolved. Speaking to news men in Abuja after attending a meeting between the Federal Government’s delegation and ASUU, Suswam said that agreements had been reached by both parties on all issues except two. Said he: “We reached agreements on all issues except two. These two issues are those of earned allowances of lecturers and intervention for the federal universities. These are the only issues that are still outstanding.” The Benue Governor further said he believed that by next week after his Committee would have arrived at an agreement on all the issues, ASUU would call off the strike. He continued: ”The SGF would meet with the leadership of ASUU on the issue of earned allowances by next Monday. Then my committee which is dealing with the issue of the needs assessment of the universities would meet again next Thursday and take another look at all the infrastructural deficits which the federal universities are facing. If you go to our universities, you would agree that they are facing infrastructural deficits and that is why my committee would meet with all the funding agencies next Thursday for the purpose of prioritizing all the projects that need to be executed. We are going to invite all the agencies that are involved in the funding of the universities including the Central Bank of Nigeria.” Suswam further stated that the issues on agreements have been reached include: those of retirement age for university lecturers- which has now been increased from 65 to 70 years; the constitution of the governing councils of the universities which has already been done by the Government; the setting up of a pension administrator and the issue of persuading companies operating in the country to set up research centers in the universities. Said he: “As far as I am concerned, if the issues concerning intervention and earned allowances are resolved next week, then the strike could be called off” Among those who attended the meeting were Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, Minister of Labour, Hon. Emeka Wogu, Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayatu Rufai and President of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr Nasir Fagge. Source;Vanguard. |
