its more about 'getting it rite' cus i hve seen sum 'restrictions' been done n they havent been enforced over time.

i believe a client/buyer confidence can b boosted more if after-sales experince is done by buyers on nairaland. so when say a buyer walks in on nairaland he cn get a 'confidence' boost when he reads dealer A has been tested n trusted by a section of people. u know we nigerians like names n word of mouth (smiles)

well i will still watch from far, and see how it goes, , cus even wit the 3 day a post which isnt enforced well well , i will luv to see how this goes, cus verifying ones details there has to be a 'benchmark' so to know wat makes one 'ACCREDITED' (jus my thots- again)



protecting buyers interest confidence is a delicate thing since nairaland is jus an online forum where thomas, jack and gill can post cars for sale. lets start from the very beginning to get things right, not half way, the beginning was post cars with VIN number or carfax where possible, or state if its salvaged or not, that boosts buyers confidence but all that has been thrown into the bin, will this still go into the bin?

i am not saying it is a bad idea, i am just pointing out some few things which can be looked into,

[b]i have studied this request from afar and though it seems to b a bright idea - it may still fall short of many things. nairaland is an online forum with the "auto section" been a segment with no further check (you can register at will witout providing any details), every1 comes and goes @ will . As bizbooks stated, nairaland isnt like ebay or amazon who whereby the sales go through them and money is covered. if a deal from an accredited seller goes bad what thngs are in place via nairaland to correct that?stating verified dealers or not is no assurance cus how will the MODS certify that the details provided by such dealer is correct or how will the mods help correct a deal that goes wrong from an accredited dealer? will the mods b present at very transaction?(which is nt possible)The are issues we should table out before doing data collection. giving people confidence means you have to give them confidence in the structure you have in place to avert a suitation.

put yourselves inthe "buyers" i see a list of accredited dealers and carry out a deal wit such dealer and the deal goes wrong , what structure do you have to correct such cus if as a buyer i would say its the accredited list which you complied give me y choice of dealer.

trust is something not bought online, a few have earned it , so i believe for others it i going to be hard for "a verified list" to give me confidence as a buyer to trust.



Compling alist of accredited dealers is good, but what makes them accredited dealers? are you also going to verify with their banks ? we need to know [/b]

Lagos state govt has the right to insist that persons selling cars to the general public should register with the govt. as authorized car dealers and pay appropriate revenue.
However, it is ridiculous if the LASG proposes to enact a law stopping a private individual from selling a vehicle to another private individual or insisting that the individual can only sell through an authorized car dealer. There is no country in the world that prevents an individual from selling his private property as and when he or she so pleases - except Communist regimes. The govt is entitled though to tax the transaction.  

However, if the volume of sales goes beyond occasional and limited individual-to-individual private transactions and becomes a full-fledged commercial enterprise selling vehicles full-time to the general public, then its only fair that the govt. is entitled to tax revenue from that business.

If I can sell my laptop, phone, land or house by private arrangement, why not my car?

The economy is very harsh and people try to make ends meet. The govt has seen that auto biz is becoming one which brings income and they r not satisfied with the registered dealers they have on their hands, now the motor licensing office wants in on the action. it would only mean one thing - bribes more bribes and more bribes. simple, trust 9ja
