This post is for the Twitter lovers, the Twitter haters and the Twitter newbies. Out of all the social media platforms, Twitter is definitely the hardest one to figure the hey out. Even so, there are some basic things you should be doing in Twitterland if you want to build a Twitter following.

First let me say that Twitter is not about quid pro quo follow backs. Just because I follow you doesn’t mean you’re obligated to follow me back. And vice-versa. While you don’t have to be as picky about following as you would, say, accepting a Facebook friend, you don’t need to follow every single person back either.

So, are you curious why don’t people follow you back on Twitter? Perhaps you’re making one of these mistakes:

1. Your avatar is a Twitter egg.

No, no, no.

This often happens to peeps new to Twitter. They start following people and figure they’ll just upload an avatar later. Um, no. Would you think someone is interesting, engaging and all around awesome when they have a default image to represent themselves?

The fix: Upload a picture of your bad self up right this second. You can do a blog badge if you’d like… but people like building relationships with other people so make a picture your first choice.
2. You don’t have a bio.

Twitter gives you 160 characters to tell potential followers about yourself. Saying nothing at all is the worst. Saying something vague like “namaste” or “I love cats” doesn’t help your case either. Oh and PLEASE don’t say “I follow back.” It sounds like you’re desperate for followers.

The fix: Use that 160 characters to your full potential. List things about yourself, write full sentences, make people laugh, make people curious, whatever. Just remember it’s a reflection of you so make it count. Here ‘s mine:

3. Your Twitter account is set to private.

If you’re reading this, you’re most likely a blogger or Small business owner. If you’re not, leave that private all you want. If you’re a blogger or business owner who actually wants to reach new people, it won’t happen with your account on private. Sure, those who recognize your name or blog name may “Send follow request” but otherwise you won’t get people willing to make the effort.

The fix: Change that baby to “public.” And if that makes you squeamish, leave it as is but change your expectations on how Twitter can extend your reach.
4. You have Twitter validation on your account.

Many of you may have never seen this before but I assure you, it’s atrocious. Twitter validation (TrueTwit) actually makes someone verify they aren’t spam before they have the “privilege” of following you. So let me get this straight: you want ME to prove I’m not a spammer while you do nothing? Um, talk about lazy. We all have to be diligent not to follow spammers. I’m not doing your work for you. Sheesh.

The fix: Do I really need to spell this out?
5. You have a suspicious ratio of followers to those you’re following.

If you have 100 followers but you follow 1,200, I raise a single eyebrow at you (ok, I can’t physically do that but my hubby can). Most likely it’s due to the fact that you got all excited and started following lots of people without waiting for anyone to follow you too. The problem is that it looks like something’s wrong with you. Why are only 100 of those 1,200 people following you back?

The fix: If you’re new to Twitter, build your following a little more slowly. If you have fewer than 1,000 followers, try to keep your ratio within about 100 peeps. When you get into the 1,000s, you can probably have a difference of a few hundred.There are no hard or fast rules to this… just use your judgement. And remember to have patience in growing your following, grasshopper.
6. You take long breaks from Twitter.

While you don’t have to live on Twitter, someone may not follow you back if they notice your last tweet was three weeks ago. Twitter is about connecting with your followers and building relationships. It’s hard to build a relationship if you’re never there.

The fix: Try to be on Twitter a little bit each weekday, even if it’s just for ten minutes to respond to tweets, retweet some posts and make some comments.
7. You send auto Direct Messages.

Dead horse? I’m beating it. While this may not prevent someone from following you (how will they know you do this if they haven’t followed you yet?), it sure as heck will get people to unfollow

The fix: Again, it’s in that post but the secret is building lists so you can focus on groups you want to interact with instead of spamming them privately with insincere messages.
8. You just tweet out links to your blog posts.

Twitter isn’t an RSS feed. If someone heads to your profile and sees all your tweets lead to your blog, it’s a turn off. Remember that people like to talk to you, not have your blog posts shoved in their face all the time. It’s like meeting someone at a cocktail party and all they talk about is themselves without a single interest in what you have to say.

The fix: Ask questions, re-tweet posts from others and share fun or useful things you come across. And be sure to @Mention others to really get the convo going and build a Twitter following.

For a fan simply identified as Tunde, days like January 13, 2013 will be a day he might continue to pray to always come his way even though the day had a bit of pain in it. This is because the aftermath of the 'bitter leaf' later resulted into 'sweetness' as a Yoruba adage puts it.

As reported by a Magazine, a harmless and excited Tunde, seeing his role model, called unto 9ice but the singer didn't respond.

Like the Biblical woman with the issue of blood who had the faith that if she touches the tip of Jesus Christ's cloth, she would be healed, Tunde, filled with the same faith, stepped forward to reportedly tap 9ice by his shoulder.



But instead of getting his 'healing', he reportedly got a dirty a slap on his face. This almost caused a storm in the tea cup as Tunde angrily and tearfully lambasted 9ice shouting at the top of his voice.

Embarrassed by this, 9ice was reported to have quickly moved to calm Tunde and allegedly promised to give him something when he (9ice) is about leaving the event.

Pacified by this, Tunde reportedly stopped shouting. He was later spotted, as reported, with 9ice with a 'paper-like' substance tucked in his hand.

When asked further about what was given to him by the singer, Tunde reportedly declined to give further information and left the venue.

"I didn't just start my weight loss journey. It has been 14 months and people are now used to my new size. The only reason it has cropped up now is because of the bikini photos I posted on my DP when I went to Ibeshe Beach 2 weeks ago. I have suffered crippling sciatica for almost a decade and will sometimes be unable to walk for two weeks at a stretch. Mine is bad because I have it on both sides rather than just the left side as most people do. Wearing heels and lifting anything even slightly heavy would instantly inflame my sciatic nerve and I have gone everywhere trying to find a physiotherapist that can trap the nerve. However, since I lost weight, it has become manageable, so it is evident that the benefits of losing weight outweigh the risks. You can do this in the comfort of your home.

I hired a personal trainer for the first 6 weeks and he taught me all my exercise routines. I now do everything unaided. Initially, I lost 35kg and was a UK dress size 8, but because I'm big boned, it made me look gaunt and ill. I'm naturally voluptuous and lost all my curves, so a lot of people complained. I'm now a healthy size 12 and work out vigorously and control my diet to maintain this weight. It's not easy though and working out has made me gain some muscle. I've read comments on some popular sites where people have poked jibes at me calling me 'manly'! Lol! They are entitled to their opinions anyway and I'm proud of my 'manly' body and 'sexy bow legs'!

I'd rather gain a bit of muscle than go back to my former size 18. I'm more interested in inspiring other people because I know how they feel. As soon as I returned to Lagos, I resumed my vigorous work out and running sessions and am now back to my healthy size.

I receive a lot of emails from people enquiring about my weight loss tips and I'm seriously considering releasing a free fitness DVD on-line after shooting my next movie. Honestly, anybody that follows my exercise and diet routine will maintain a healthy weight. You can eat what you like really and you can even eat 5 or 6 times a day. These are the tricks: Eat small portions, reduce your carbohydrate intake (white rice, white bread and yam are the worst culprits), eat a lot of vegetables (your eba shouldn't be more than a handful), drink lots of water, AVOID fizzy drinks and try not to eat after 7pm. If you feel peckish after then, snack on fruits.

For exercise: Run for 30 minutes at least 5 times a week. Do sit ups, crunches, squats and as many indoor exercises as you can, regularly. Finally, always remember that you are human, so if you relapse, don't feel guilty; just pick yourself up and start again".

Looks like we are about to witness another major break-up in the Nigerian music industry after the famous D’banj/Don Jazzy break up, with reports of Wizkid parting ways with E.M.E.

The story all around the music industry suggests that Wizkid has parted ways with E.M.E record label controlled by Banky W.

An insight on this was Wizkid’s absence at the Lagos Countdown Concert on New Year Eve, even though Banky W claimed Starboy was sick, as other sources reported contradicting stories of Wizkid partying in the United Kingdom.

Wizkid, who parted ways with his long time manager and friend Osagie Osarenkhoe, in September 2012, is said to be dissatisfied with his contract agreement and sharing quota within the label.

Another obvious indication of the possible music break-up is that his Twitter Bio now reads, Management @DisturbingLDN @Godwin Tom with no mention whatsoever of E.M.E Records.

Both parties have not put out a direct word regarding this matter, as Banky W squashed the break-up reports earlier this week in a recent interview, saying “Wizkid is still very much part of the E.M.E family“.

He also added that Wizzy has an international management and recording contract with British rapper, Tinie Tempah’s Disturbing London outfit and Akon’s Konvict Records respectively.

There have been reports stating that Konvict music is offering Wizkid a more lucrative offer than what E.M.E is offering, which explains why the singer decided not to drop an album again this year and opted for the mixtape instead.

The singer posted some tweets (view below) which have added more fuel to this fire of rumors.

If this report of their break up is true, then this goes a long way to explain what our music industry in Nigeria is turning into, where loyalty is continually questioned.

Another findings reveal the reason for the split had to do with how revenues from Wizkid is being handled by the record label. Banky W allegedly owns a significant % of Wizkid’s revenue and he wanted that off his contract, Banky W didn’t agree. Banky W is an executive at EME. Sources also claims Wizkid payed a significant amount to have his contract terminated from EME.

We’ll provide more information as they come through. An official statement from EME is expected before the end of the day to confirm if speculations are true or not.
