In Makurdi the State Capital of Benue, Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIR) had Sealed up Fidelity, Zenith Bank, among Others over TAX LIABILITIES.

It was half day at work yesterday, 25th May, 2017 for staff of Zenith, Fidelity, Skye and Unity Banks in all the branches within Makurdi metropolis, Benue State as the Executive Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Service Mrs. Mimi Adzape-Orubibi led an Enforcement team to distrain by sealing the premises of the aforementioned banks for neglect, failure or refusal to pay their assessed PAYE Taxes/Liabilities.
According to Mrs. Orubibi, the Taxes/Liabilities (Best of Judgement Assessment) for Skye Bank Plc Makurdi amount to One Billion Naira (N1, 000,000,000.00) only for the 2009 to 2014 Tax years. That of Unity Bank stood at One Hundred and Five Million, Four Hundred and Fourteen Thousand and Forty Four Naira, Thirty Kobo (N105,414,544.37) Only for the 2011 to 2015 Tax years.
Fidelity Bank on the other hand owes One Hundred and Thirteen Million Nine Hundred and Fifty Nine Thousand One Hundred and Fourteen Naira Thirty Three Kobo (N113,959,114.33) only for the 2009 to 2014 Tax years. After reconciliation, Zenith Bank has been found to be indebted to the sum of Two Hundred and Thirteen Million Nine Hundred and Fifty Seven Thousand Three Hundred and Thirty Eight Naira Ninety Four Kobo (213,957,338.94) only.
Speaking after the exercise, the Executive Chairman said Fidelity, Skye and Unity Banks were given Best of Judgement Assessment because they refused to cooperate with BIRS for a successful Audit Investigation. Zenith Bank on the other hand, submitted all the documents requested by the board but refused to pay after the audit exercise within the 7 days provided by Law.
Some Customers who spoke to Newsmen during the exercise expressed satisfaction with the closure of default banks, lamenting how banks deduct their monies at will in the name of Withholding Tax, Vat, Commission and so on without remitting to appropriate authorities.
Meanwhile, most of the Bank Managers appealed to the Management of BIRS to give them more time to communicate with their respective Head Quarters for necessary action but their request was turned down, on the grounds that they had more than enough time to do the needful.

Senator MARK who is a fifth term senator representing Benue South Senatorial District also made a swipe at the Governor of his home state, SAMUEL ORTOM on his empowerment programme.

The PDP Senator was speaking as a special guest of honour at the unveiling of the remodelled Brick House within the Rivers State Government House complex in Port Harcourt.
Senator MARK underscored the quality of work being done by Governor NYESOM WIKE, and made a case for him to be retained in office for another term.

​Following the passage of the Open Rearing and Grazing bill into law by the Benue State House of Assembly on Thursday, May 4, Governor Samuel Ortom has, Monday 22 May, assented to the bill into law. Governor Ortom, who, at a stakeholders’ meeting in Makurdi, the Benue State capital on Monday, said the bill is a welcome development in the state and vowed to protect the state from intruders and criminals.

According to the bill, “Nobody will be permitted to carryout open grazing outside the permitted ranches. “Any person who contravene this act shall be guilty and upon conviction be sentenced to 5 years imprisonment with a fine of 1 million. “Where damage is done to the crops the farm will be evaluated and the manager of the livestock be compelled to pay. “Movement of livestock on foot within the state is hereby prohibited. Any person who contravene this shall pay be sentenced to one year imprisonment or pay a fine of 500k “Any livestock owner or manager who carries fire arms shall be treated under the penal code. All ranchers shall engage the services of security agencies. “Any person who rustles cattle shall be sentenced to 5 years imprisonment or pay a fine of 100k per cow. Any livestock wandering shall be impounded by the department of livestock. “Any livestock impounded and the owner not found shall be auctioned to the public and the proceeds be deposited into the state consolidated revenue account. “There shall be established a special open prohibition TAX FORCE they shall enforce this laws as stipulated.”

A peaceful protest is currently ongoing in Makurdi the state capital of Benue State over the massive Killing of Benue people by the Fulani Herdsmen. The protest Kicked of at about 8am this morning at Wurukum Round.

The protest has attracted lot of attention ranging from Security agencies,Business men and women, Media and way lot of people.

Even some Security operatives were spotted encouraging the People to carry on their protest peacefully while they try to control them around their boundaries.

Further more Media Men from Channels Tv and NTA were spotted in the arena.

The Major people who took part in the protest were mostly some Tiv student of Benue State University which further attracted more business men, some villagers and people around to Join the protest.
The people said they were going to proceed further to Benue State Government house to continue the protest there.

Jungle Justice again in Benue!!!

A thief this morning discovered burnt to ashes at Federal university of Agriculture makurdi.

We gathered that, the thief yesterday night storm a private students hostel at south core of the university called Joy hostels .

The source further explained that, the thief storm into a student room and demanded for his laptop and phone but the said student refused to give out his.laptop and phone .

At that moment the thief angrily short the student once at knees, but unfortunately to him, the student dogged the gun short, them he started dragging with him and further raised alarm.

The students of Federal University Of Agriculture makurdi in numbers came out of their various rooms and hold the thief.

He was Today discovered burnt to ashes today along South core road today.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, leader in Benue State and Senator representing the Benue North East senatorial district, Dr George Akume, has appealed to those who contested for the Tor Tiv stool in the last exercise not to resort to litigation.
He made the appeal at Saint Christopher's Parish Wannune during a thanksgiving mass to mark his 63rd birthday today.

Well today this Article will reveal a few other things you should know about Prof. JAMES O. I AYATSE the New Tor Tiv.

BIRTH EDUCATION AND FAMILY LIFE
Prof. JAMES O. I AYATSE, an indigenes of Mbakan, Shangev- Ya, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State was born on the May 12th, 1956 to the family of late Iorzua Ayatse and Mrs Adeior Iorzua ( nee Achaa, Mbarumun, nanev)

He attended LGEA school, Orbiam, ikov, Ushongo LGA : LGEA school, Mbagbegba, Shangev – Ya and St Anne’s primary school, Adikpo where he obtained the first school leaving certificate. He attended and passed out with a WASC, division one certificate at Government secondary school Gboko. Armed with the excellent WASC certificate. Prof. Ayatse proceeded to the prestigious University of Ibadan and graduated with a BSc Biochemistry, he was the best graduating student in the department. He thereafter obtained his MSc at the University of calabar where he passed out as the best graduating student. Prof. Moved to the university of Surrey, England as a commonwealth student for his PhD in Biochemistry. He returned to University calabar for his MBA.

Prof Ayatse has had a sterling career in academics and educational management. He started his career in 1980 as a graduate assistant in the university of Calabar and rose steadily and rapidly in the university system to attain the highest rank of a professor of Biochemistry in 1993.

Prof Ayatse rose to the rank of Professor in 1993 in his thirties, becoming the first ever and perhaps still the only professor of Biochemistry of Tiv extraction.

He has held virtually all important positions in the university. He has taught at the university of calabar, University of Uyo, Benue state University University of Agriculture Makurdi, University of Abuja and Federal University Dutsin-Ma.

Prof Ayatse has taught Biochemistry, Business Management and public administration to different groups of students and produced several BSc, MSc, MBA, MPA, and PhD.


> He has served as external Assessor for professional appointments /promotions and external examiner to several universities.

> He has chaired the national universities commission committees on performance indicators and minimum bench mark for science programmes for Nigerian Universities.

> He has chaired several panela for the accreditation of science programmes in Nigerian Universities.

> He has also served in the capacity of chairman or member of of several communities or governing boards at international, National and state levels.

> On three different occasions he was involved in formulation of the vision and blueprint for the development of Benue State.

> He served as chairman of the visitation panel to the Benue state University.

He has numerous scholarly publication in both reputable national and international journals.

Prof Ayatse is the only Tiv man who has served as as Vice chancellor of two federal universities in Nigeria namely :

¡. Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi in 2001 – 2006

¡¡. Federal university Dutsin-Ma in Katsina State. 2011 – 2016

At the University of Agriculture Makurdi, a once restive University

Prof Ayatse used his sagacity and astuteness to restore peace and stability. He eradicated the menace of staff union strikes and violent students’ demonstrations. All through his tenure there was no strike nor student demonstrations arising from internal problems.

He inherited gigantic debts, but paid all of them and left a healthy balance for the institution. There was massive and rapid expansion of the University which led to the establishment of various new departments and colleges and the students population soared from the below 2000 he inherited in 2001 to about 7000 before the expiration of his tenure.

As vice chancellor of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, prof Ayatse brought his experience to bear on the newly established university. He was the first vice chancellor out of the Nine federal universities established at the time to graduate students and mobilise them for the mandatory NYSC. He also conducted the first ever convocation of the university before completing his tenure.
He laid a sturdy foundation for an ICT driven university with computerized and online services. In January 2015 and 2016, webometric, world Ranking of universities rated Federal University Dutsin-Ma as the 14th Best university in Nigeria ahead of many older institutions.

He was a member of the governing Council of the National Youth Service Corp and later Michael Okpara University, Umuidike.

In all the position he has held, he has used them for the good of humanity. He has facilitated the employment of several Tiv sons in universities and other establishments.

Prof. Ayatse is intelligent, hard working, self motivated, focused, result and , achievement oriented.

He is God fearing, trustworthy, reliable, resourceful, dependable honest,and disciplined with a high level of integrity.

He is an excellent planner, organized and frugal: an efficient manager of human and material resources, a team player and respects and is loyal to constituted authority.

He is irredeemably committed to the belief that the Tiv Nation can be repositioned to take its rightful place in Nigeria.

Prof Ayatse has enormous capacity to build consensus from divergent interests and opinions, believes in and practices inclusiveness, fairness and equity. He is humble, unassuming and a silent achiever.

He has worked in and with several group of people in many places across Nigeria as as such has built a wide network across the length and breadth of the country.

A widely traveled person as such well exposed. He has visited several countries across all the continents of the globe.

He believes that the way forward for the Tiv Nation is to return to God and seek HIS mercies and help to heal the land and the wounds that have so deeply divided us, reconcile and build bonds of unity and common destiny.

He feels strongly that the Tiv Nation has to rediscover and renew the virtues that us strong and discard the borrowed vices that have weakened us as a people.
That the Tiv Nation must develop an all inclusive agenda that gives us the focus in our collective resolve and importantly strengthen our cultural practices and language that make us stronger and more progressive and that we must as a nation discard the retrogressive customs that enslave and / or slow us down.

Prof Ayatse holds firm that the time had come to prayerfully develop a smooth and cordial working relationship between the political class and the traditional leadership that is acceptable and respectful, and leaves the traditional institution with the integrity of and honor to justifiably mediate or intervene in moments of crisis or conflict as well as be the bastion of hope for our people.
