Sports / Spate Of Withdrawals Puts Nigeria V Cameroon Friendly At Risk by ceejay675(m): 6:25pm On May 31, 2021
A rash of withdrawals of key Nigeria players has put the Super Eagles' proposed friendly against Cameroon in Austria in peril, with six of nine selected defenders taking themselves out of contention.

The African powerhouses are scheduled to face off on June 4, but Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr may be unable to raise a team strong enough to compete.

The German initially selected a strong, plus-sized 31-man squad in mid-May, but whittled down that to a more manageable 23 barely two weeks later. However, that number has been dwindling over the last few days, leaving Rohr scrambling to find replacements in time for the game.

Among the withdrawals are Kenneth Omeruo and Sadiq Umar. Both players will be involved with their clubs in the promotion playoffs in Spain. As will Moses Simon, whose FC Nantes also face a battle to remain in the French Ligue 1 via the playoffs.

While the official reason for the other withdrawals have been medical, player sources have alleged to ESPN that outstanding debts from the NFF have played a big part on their unwillingness to risk further injury.

"The players are not happy," the source, who is one of the players who withdrew from the game, alleged to ESPN. "They have not paid bonuses and allowances, nothing at all for the entire [2021] Afcon qualifiers.

"We have sacrificed by playing throughout the qualifiers without being paid. I think now, with all the injuries, it is hard for many of us to make the sacrifice to come and play a meaningless friendly when the outstanding bonuses have not been paid.

"It is better for us to stay away, recover properly, rest and get ready for the new season and the World Cup qualifiers."

Fulham defender Ola Aina has withdrawn from the Nigeria squad due to an ankle injury. GLYN KIRK/POOL/AFP via Getty Images
For Rohr, this presents a major logistical challenge, as he scrambles to make up a squad of 18 less than a week before the match, though has attested that all the medical withdrawals are legitimate.

He told ESPN: "We had nine defenders in list. Six now are out.

"They said they had some injuries and the doctors from the clubs said they need to rest because they have some pains. So we got some medical attestations from the teams.

"Ola Aina told me yesterday that his ankle is painful and he cannot make it and the club physio said he cannot play. Then we have (Kevin) Akpoguma, we knew already he is injured and cannot play.

"Victor Osimhen is injured. He send us an attestation. The meniscus in his knee is painful.

"(Zaidu) Sanusi is injured. He was in Paris to see a doctor, for surgery perhaps but not for the moment. (Tyronne) Ebuehi sent us a message with a medical attestation that he cannot make it. And Semi Ajayi also says he has problems with his back and the Physio says he needs two weeks of rest.

"Simy Nwankwo also, they send us attestation from his club that he cannot make it because he is injured."

But that is not even as bad as it gets for Rohr. To make up for the absentee players, Rohr called up some fresh ones as replacements. Valentine Ozornwafor from Galatasaray, Samson Tijani from RB Salzburg and Frank Onyeka from Midtylland, among others.

But even that failed to resolve the situation as players that he called up to replace the injured players, also ended up pulling out.

"I invited the player Tijani from Salzburg who has told me that he is injured in training yesterday... hamstring. And Frank Onyeka from Midjtyllan
Because the withdrawals came so late in the day, there is no chance of getting players from Nigeria's domestic league to compensate for the personnel deficits, as they would require at least 10 days to secure entry visas.

The situation has left Rohr concerned about the fate of the game: "I don't know if they can cancel, I only know that I have maximum 18 players. If the players from England, William (Troost-Ekong), Kelechi, Ndidi and Iwobi can come, then maybe we play but I have no substitutes and there is no chance to get other players.

"But if they cannot play because they have to go into quarantine, then we cannot make it.

"I think they made this friendly in Austria to give us a good condition for preparation, but I see that it is difficult to motivate the players to come to Europe because some of the players are in Nigeria already. And they have to come back to Europe to play.

"My problem now is that I hope that we will have 18 players to arrive."

The absentees mean that players like FC Lorient's Terem Moffi could win his first international cap, as could CD Feirense's Abraham Marcus, who was recently voted player of the season in the Portuguese second division, called up for the first time by Rohr.

THE REVISED LIST

Health / The National HIV Prevalence Is Now 1.4% by ceejay675(m): 4:34pm On Mar 14, 2019
New survey results indicate that Nigeria has an HIV prevalence of 1.4%
Expanded data collection and analysis provides better understanding of HIV epidemic in Nigeria

ABUJA/GENEVA, 14 March 2019—Results released today by the Government of Nigeria indicate a national HIV prevalence in Nigeria of 1.4% among adults aged 15–49 years. Previous estimates had indicated a national HIV prevalence of 2.8%. UNAIDS and the National Agency for the Control of AIDS estimate that there are 1.9 million people living with HIV in Nigeria.

Speaking in Abuja, Nigeria, the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, welcomed the news that there are fewer people living with HIV in the country than previously estimated and launched the Revised National HIV and AIDS Strategic Framework 2019–2021, which will guide the country’s future response to the epidemic. Nigeria has made good progress in scaling up HIV treatment and prevention services in recent years.

"For the first time, the end of AIDS as a public health threat by 2030 is truly in sight for our country,” said H.E. Muhammadu Buhari, President of Nigeria. “I urge all of us not to relent but to increase the momentum. Let us work collectively and push for the last mile.”

The data from the Nigeria National HIV/AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS) are based a revised and enhanced methodology. The survey provides a clearer understanding of Nigeria’s HIV epidemic and shines a light on progress and the remaining gaps and challenges.

The Executive Director of UNAIDS, Michel Sidibé, welcomed the new estimates and said the improved understanding of the country’s HIV epidemic would allow Nigeria to better reach people living with HIV and people at higher risk of acquiring HIV.

“I commend the Government of Nigeria and its partners for conducting this ambitious survey, which provides us with a much better understanding of the country’s HIV epidemic,” said Mr Sidibé. “While it is fantastic news that there are fewer people living with HIV in Nigeria than previously thought, we must not let down our guard. Let us use the results of this survey to better focus our delivery of HIV prevention, treatment and care services to the people in the greatest need and ensure that Nigeria gets on track to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030.”

While Nigeria’s national HIV prevalence is 1.4% among adults aged 15–49 years, women aged 15–49 years are more than twice as likely to be living with HIV than men (1.9% versus 0.9%.) The difference in HIV prevalence between women and men is greatest among younger adults, with young women aged 20–24 years more than three times as likely to be living with HIV as young men in the same age group. Among children aged 0–14 years, HIV prevalence according to the new data is 0.2%. Significant efforts have been made in recent years to stop new HIV infections among children.

At the national level, viral suppression among people living with HIV aged 15–49 years stands at 42.3% (45.3% among women and 34.5% among men). When people living with HIV are virally suppressed they remain healthy and transmission of the virus is prevented.

The improved understanding of the country’s HIV epidemic will allow for more efficient investments in the response to HIV and more effective planning for the provision of HIV prevention, care and treatment services, including a focus on key populations, such as female sex workers. It will permit the adoption of a population–location approach to deliver services to the people and areas where they are most needed.

The new data differentiate HIV prevalence by state, indicating an epidemic that is having a greater impact in certain areas of the country. The South-South zone of the country has the highest HIV prevalence, at 3.1% among adults aged 15–49 years. HIV prevalence is also high in the North Central zone (2.0%) and in the South East zone (1.9%). HIV prevalence is lower in the South West zone (1.1%), the North East zone (1.1%) and the North West zone (0.6%).

The National HIV Prevalence is now 1.4%, while each respective states prevalence in % are as follows
1. Ogun-1.6%

During the course of treatment if symptoms goes away on its own does it mean one is cured?
Had hepatitis over 12 years ago was treating it and the symptoms cleared since then i drink, don't smoke but never had any issues since then
And i can't remember the exact hepatitis type

No Sir... You can live with HCV for years without symptoms.. You can even live with HIV for years without symptoms.. All depends on your immune system. Have had cases of people living with both infections without treatment and are doing just fine... Important thing is to maintain a healthy lifestyle.. If u go for viral load test and its low and still without symptoms just live a healthy lifestyle... For HIV is even of recent we started test and treat.. That is if you tested positive you will be started on treatment.. Before u have to go for CD4 count test and you can only be started on treatment if your CD4 count is less than 500. If I wil advice you just live a healthy lifestyle.

Bros trust me wen I say Hep C is not a death sentence..Nairaland is the last place to get good advice... Everybody will be forming doctor... Bros Hep c can be acute or chronic. If urs is on acute stage u need not to worry much... Just avoid alcohol and smoking.. For some people it can actually clear with time... But if urs is on chronic stage which can lead to cirrhosis then you need urgent treatment otherwise it will get to a stage were you will require liver transplant... So my question is so far do u have any symptoms? and if u want the treatment CHAI as an NGO supports treatment of HCV.

There is a leak... the coolant should circulate and quantity should retain... changing ur radiator was a waste of ur money. The water u refill everyday is going somewhere.. look for a puddle of water under ur parked car in the morning... if u cant find that puddle.. then check the exhaust if its steaming pure white smoke even when hot it could be a head gasket leak... but before doing an expensive head gasket job have ur mechanic check the usual suspects... eg. Hoses and their clips... hoses should be firm too, soft hoses sjould be changed... use those gas screw clips... chevk water pump, use sealant if needed.. check under the dashboard for wet patchs... though rare the heater core there can leak too.... for the fact u ve to top coolant that often its a leak problem... find the leak.
I noticed the leak from my water pump then I changed it.. It was OK for 2 days then started again
