TravelRe: Before Applying Or Coming To The Uk For Studies: Beware Of This by ceteris09: 12:38am On Aug 27, 2016
Interesting thread and OP view is valid 100% but not a balanced view.

What we forget here is that, the UK has seen a lot of abuse of the student visa route (especially by Nigerians, Pakistanis and Indians), to the point that we Nigerians get tar with the same brush, no matter the intentions of some of us that are genuine students.
I also came to the UK to study in 2010 and was lucky enough to be granted PSW, which changed the course of my life for good. I now work with a reputable organisation since graduating from my Masters. Some of my cohorts that were granted same PSW went on to the Tier 2 route (sponsored by big names in Financial Services) and some went back to Naija, after being unable to get work sponsorship. Like others have said, it depends on how lucky (or favoured, if you like) one is.

The struggle still continues even if you get sponsored for work visa, it is no guarantee that your employer will keep you for 5 years- in order to qualify for PR. Also, career progression is difficult but not impossible, this will even determine if you will qualify for ILR. What I mean is if you get promoted, you might likely meet the income requirement when you come to applying for ILR, otherwise it is back to square one.
My personal recommendation is to study in the UK if you have a scholarship (Chevening, NDDC, Commonwealth, etc). If you are self-sponsored, go to Canada or USA – work sponsorship is still not guaranteed in these places, but you stand a chance of getting jobs.

Student Visa as a route to job and permanent residency in developed countries is an absolute gamble!

@likeithot: it was 17 working days.
List of documents submitted, my other friends also did the same:
1. DegreeTranscript (it has my univ valid contact details, but they didnt contact my sch at all, because i included my NYSC cert);
2. First bank statement dated 4rm 28-06-10 to 27-07-10. Though, there was a bank interest transaction on 30-06-10 ; and
3. A 'strongly worded' personal statement.
That was all.

@All: I'm actually sorry 4 just posting this. I guess am just waking up to this reality. We(myself and 4 other friends) got our visas yesterday aftern'n, which happens to be the 17th day of our submission. We basically digested the guidance note and made sure we wrote a well researched personal statement. Above all, we fought for it in the spiritual. This is through fasting and prayer. Best of favour to those awaiting their visa decisions.

@ Baba Ibada.
I have been a keen follower of ur posts. May be because i stay in Ibadan, lol. Anyways, u are absolutely right about the red and black bags. I was given a red bag, though i used an agent as well as followed the tier 4 policy guidance to the letter. But i denied using an agent at Ikeja because: (1) it doesnt guarantee visa success; (2)it makes BHC to process application hastily. Hence, my reason for denying using one. I also submitted on 28th of July, and I'm patiently counting 15 working days. Prayer and Patience is the key. If i may ask, why was your friend denied visa?

TravelRe: General UK Visa Enquiries by ceteris09: 2:05am On Apr 28, 2010
Please has any1 applied for uk student visa under tier4 with their academic transcript? Also,i'll like to ask if i need to enclose a photocopy of my original degree transcript, which is normally in a sealed sch official envelope. By opening this addressed envelope, does it reduce its genuity value at application level? I strongly hope that u guys will be able to help.

@ell77
i must say ur advice on student visa issues are invaluable. My question is this, can i use my transcript to apply for student visa in lieu of my certificate which is not ready? I graduated from OOU Ago iwoye in 2008. Also, when submitting this transcript-which is normally sealed in an official sch envelope, is it advisable to tear this envelope in other to make a duplicate copy to submit  with the visa application? A friend said by opening the transcript envelope its genuity and confidentiality has been compromised.
