Career / Please How Can I Get A Personal Assistant Or Executive Assistant Job by chainreader(f): 8:28am On Sep 18, 2020
Well I am a fresh graduate with a bSc in computer science but I don't want to do anything IT related for now. I want to test the waters and try different things before I decide which career path to go into. I think being a PA or EA or even a secretary would expose me to general knowledge and you have the privilege of learning directly from the successful person you are working for. I am proficient with some Microsoft packages like excel, word and power point but is there any other skill I need to posses ? And how do you even get those kind of jobs because they hardly even advertise them.

Health / I need suggestions on good and Affordable Lightening Cream by chainreader(f): 11:59pm On Aug 20, 2019
Please I need suggestions on good lightening creams that are kinda affordable. I am a bit light but I got darker because of school stress and constant exposure to sun. I am looking for a cream that can make me lighter but without green veins, stretchmarks and all, something like toke makinwa's skin (lol). I heard QEI + is good ,I have also heard of some organic creams (not so sure about them) I would love to get some suggestions and hear your experiences.
And also, please spare me the" be confident in your skin blah blah " lecture. There is absolutely nothing wrong with dark skins but personally I like and admire really light skin and I find toke makinwa's skin completely gorgeous. Is that so bad? . Thank you for your contributions

Culture / Re: Is It Truly Important To Know Your Mother Tongue? by chainreader(f): 9:03pm On Jul 21, 2019
i get your point of view
bigfrancis21:

It is entirely the fault of your parents to not have taught you the language but you can still learn the language on your own if you put in the efforts. You need to recognize that as a child in Igboland you may be excused for your inability to speak but as an adult growing into your mid-40s and on you would not get that free pass. You will definitely stand out in the midst of other Igbo-speaking women of your age then (including those who self-taught themselves as adults and those who spoke from childhood). As an adult, it is entirely expected of you to be able to speak, these excuses you are giving will not fly then. Well, except maybe if you decide to relocate and live abroad where the expectation will not be high. From my experience, many Igbos who did not speak Igbo as children later grow up speaking it as adults. I have aunts who who were born in London (British citizens) in the 70s and 80s and who only did their secondary school education in Nigeria but are fluent speakers of Igbo. They didn't speak Igbo as children but learned it as young adults. You would never know they did not speak Igbo as children except they tell you.

Take a cue from Esther Ebigbo (Resonance - Lee Lee) and all her siblings who are all half german and half Nigerian but speak Igbo very fluently.

Culture / Is It Truly Important To Know Your Mother Tongue? by chainreader(f): 2:07pm On Jul 18, 2019
there is so much hype about knowing how to speak your native language but is it truly important?. i am an igbo girl who grew up in delta state, in a neighborhood were literally everybody spoke English. my estate consisted of people from all over the country, its was a very multi-ethnic environment . Just imagine how disorganized and chaotic it would have been if everyone spoke their own language. wasn't that how God caused confusion so those builders wont be able to build that tower to heaven?. Maybe that's why nigeria isn't thriving, we are to divided. most prosperous nations have one or two languages. that's not the point of this post though.

If there was anybody to take the blame for my inability to speak and understand igbo it would be my parents because they did not speak it to me . It just infuriates me when people look shocked and disappointed when i say i do not understand igbo. you can speak your language good for you, its really not that big of a deal. it doesn't make you particularly intelligent, i mean this is a language your parents or people around you spoke to you. you didn't make a conscious effort to learn it like; using "igbo encyclopedia " or taking a course on it. so why do people feel so proud of themselves or feel accomplished that they can speak their language . do not get me wrong, its great if you can speak your language but don't shove it in the faces of people who cant.

if you can speak a foreign language then that is a big deal because i know you really made an effort to learn it . not many people have french cooks or Spanish maids that they can pick up the language from. the funny things is that most people in my generation cant speak their language , well that's for my circle and people i know though. i predict in the next 15 to 20 years Nigerian native languages would gradually become obsolete.
so what do you guys think, is it important to learn your language?. i am very open minded and i would love to see different points of views

Education / Re: Can You Get A Job With A Second Class Lower Degree by chainreader(f): 10:40pm On Jul 14, 2019
thank you so much, you have been helpful
ggoldmine:

First off, some jobs in Nigeria don't take into consideration one's course of study, example: bank jobs, customer service jobs, etc. But if you must get a job related to your course which is IT, then you're better off with IT certifications. There are lots of certifications ranging from security to web administration down to programming. Don't fret yet, you mentioned you're a good speaker-you can do better as a customer service rep with this quality. You may also add a master's to your qualifications if you're not satisfied with the certifications, you're still young, you know.

80% of jobs in Nigeria is know who, 15% is by merit and 5% is by luck. If you can't fall under the 80% then 5% is your fate. Though most of my lecturers are second class lower.
thanks

well i am a final year undergrad in a federal university studying computer science and graduating with a 2:2. I know what you are thinking, my result hasn't come out yet so how am i sure. That is true but judging from my current CGPA i am on a 2:2 and my course adviser said i do not really have much chances of nailing a 2:1. plus i read very hard for my just concluded exam so i am positive i wont go bellow a 2:2.

Hearing this news made me really depressed although i do not know why this really came to me as a surprise because i really wasn't serious in my first and second year. I do not want to bore you guys with the details of my incompetence and ineptitude, i am going to go back to the question. Can i actually get a decent job not necessarily related to IT with a second class upper.

The worst part is that i do not possess any relevant skill or talent; i cant sing dance or rap. honestly the only thing i am really good at is speaking. I do not what to blow my own trumpet but i am quite a captivating speaker and a bit opinionated .

So i need help and advice on the next step and possible career options for a confused 22 year old girl with no skill, no big God and a 2:2. by the way i know my article is a bit mediocre and far from perfect, please cut me some slack i am a first time writer
