For me , d game against Spain 3-0 loss was mikel best game ever for super eagles ..he gave everything in that match but our inexperienced strikers couldn’t convert his assist .he also showed Chelsea dt he could as well function very well as a CM/AM as he played better against d duo of xavi and iniesta in dt game

tactics wise he was too damn perfect against Yaya in that game because if u rewatch that game you will understand that late keshi gave him that responsibility to nullify yaya’s threat which he did perfectly

The game against Spain he was given the license to roam around as a number 10

TheSuperNerd:
One of the top reasons why I will forever regard Mikel Obi as one of the midfield greats of Nigerian football is his ability and talent to contend in midfield battles against Yaya Youre most especially in the biggest one at the Afcon in 2013 which definitely shocked Africa and most Nigerians.

Nigeria vs CIV Afcon 2013 Quarterfinals was a midfield battle for the ages. Mikel Obi alongside Onazi somehow managed to come out on top vs Yaya and co.

It wasn't easy against a complete midfield beast like Yaya.
Obi was a Trojan in our midfield in that game. I will say his best for the super eagles. Till date I still remember that last minute goal block he did to deny yaya an equalizer

No comparison. Yaya Toure is one of the greatest players I ever saw play football. There is no comparison.

Yaya Toure is in my top 10 footballers of all time. Okocha is in not my Top 20.

Orseer Achihi and Gabriel Jesus David sign a contract at the Bosuil. Both Nigerians come from P Sports Football Academy. ✍️🇳🇬

With Achihi (18) RAFC brings a Nigerian winger to the Bosuil. He signs a contract for 5 seasons. The attacker Gabriel Jesus David (18) makes a temporary transfer to The Great Old until the end of the season with an option for a permanent transfer.

🚨 JUST IN:

Victor Osimhen wants the same salary he is earning at Napoli and will not go below it - it is around £10m net per season. Manchester United really like Osimhen, but it depends on the budget they will have available this summer. #MUFC

Took them almost 10 years to win

The issue with Afcon just like the World Cup you may have like 5 teams who are at their peak same period so it becomes an issue of survival and luck with referees. How can you imagine the Eagles beaten by Cameroon at the national stadium in 2000. Both teams were too a-washed with the best of African players in that era. Same thing with the last Afcon, Morocco, Senegal, DRC, Mali, any of those countries could have won it.
dey smell rod before they won it

One thing I'd say about Afcon is that the thing hard to win. Okocha said that when they won their first Afcon they thought they were going to win it many times. Well, their first was their last.

And last year's Afcon was exhilarating - the quality of football, the atmosphere, the social media vibe - it was a total package even more exciting than the last Euros. The last Euro no sweet like the 2021 version. I pray Afcon continues to be more colorful
