The Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State, Nigeria, a fully licensed private University approved by the Federal Government in May 2007 invites suitably qualified candidates for the vacant positions of

UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN and SENIOR LIBRARIAN.


(A) THE POSITION OF UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN

The University Librarian who is a Principal Officer, shall be in-charge of the University Library. He shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the operations of the University Library.

For the post of University Librarian, candidates must be innovative, versatile and proactive with vision, good managerial ability, integrity and transparency in private and public life and who should be able to provide the Management of the University with appropriate advice and support for all of the institution's library transactions. The right candidate should have the ability to generate ideas that would facilitate the development of the University's Library.

Qualification:

Candidates must possess a good Honours Degree from a recognized University as well as a Masters Degree in Library Science (MLS), with adequate Research Publications. The possession of a Ph.D. will be an added advantage. Applicants must also be computer literate.

Experience:

Candidates must have had at least sixteen (16) years of post- qualification, full-time, cognate experience in a public/private University, the last five years of which must be at Management level.

(B) SENIOR LIBRARIAN

Qualification and Experience:


Same as that of the University Librarian but with at least Ten (10) years experience.
Salary and Conditions of Service:
The remuneration and conditions of service for the positions are as applicable in Nigerian Universities and as may be determined by the Governing Council from time to time.
The successful candidate for the post of the University Librarian shall hold office for a term of five (5) years in the first instance. hold office for a term of five (5) years in the first instance.

Fringe benefits include pension in consonance with the Contributory Pension Scheme and appropriate allowances as may be approved from time-to-time by the University Governing Council.

10. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

1). Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)

The criteria for admission into the PGD programmes will be as follows:

a). All candidates must meet the matriculation requirements including a credit pass in English Language and Mathematics at the O'level.

b). A candidate with at least third class degree in the relevant field from an approved University.

c). HND holders with a minimum of credit level pass from recognised institutions.


2). Master of Arts (M.A), Master of Science (M.Sc) and Master of Engineering (M.Eng).

The criteria for admission to the above programmes will be as follows:

a). All candidates must meet the matriculation requirements including a credit pass in English Language and Mathematics at the O'level.

b). Candidates with at least second class honours (Lower Division) Bachelors' Degree from an approved University.

c). Candidates with a PGD at credit level pass.


3). Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)

All candidates must:

a), meet the matriculation requirements including a credit pass in English Language and Mathematics at the O'level.

b). Possess a Bachelors (Hons) degree from an approved University with a minimum of second class Honours (Lower Division) in the relevant discipline.

c). Possess Masters degree with a CGPAof at least 3.50 on a 5.00 point scale.


11. DURATION

a). Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programme Full-time PGD shall run for a minimum of two semesters and a maximum of four semesters.

Part-time PGD shall run for a minimum of four semesters and a maximum of six semesters.


b). Masters programmes shall run for a minimum of four semesters and a maximum of six semesters.


c). Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D). The Duration for the Doctor of Philosophy shall be a minimum of six semesters and a maximum often semesters.


12. METHOD OF APPLICATION
