There are good and decent guys online, I think the problem in OP's case was that she gave in too early. She failed to study the guy in question. The guy might not be a player, maybe he didnt just like what he saw when he saw her in person or maybe there was a character she exhibited that he really didnt like and cannot put up it, I dont know. Just saying.

This simple act that could be exhibited by any guy even the ones you meet in real life doesnt mean you should generalise all guys online aint decent, come on!
At the bolded, OP didnt say they met on an online dating site, but they met ONLINE, so now, are you saying you aint decent? Since you are online and you are a guy huh

No matter how sweet you think a guy is, never let your feelings control you. I'm not blaming you for what happened though. It could have still happened later if it didnt happen now.

The guy is a player and people like that do have serious relationships elsewhere, next time please take your time to study him.
