PoliticsBuhari, Tinubu Have Promised Nigeria True Federalism, No Sleeping #confab by Chiaka(op): 4:33pm On Jul 29, 2015
NewsRescue- Two of Nigeria’s top political leaders, now working together in the opposition party, have earlier definitively promised Nigerians that true federalism is the only way forward and among their top leadership agenda.

Comment: not a pre-election ruse being discussed by non credible handpicked sleeping delegates as the current administration offers.

NewsRescue investigated this after reading an article by Dr. Peregrino Brimah in which he stated that the true peoples and real leaders in the north wants true federalism restored. See: NewsRescue–The North Wants True Federalism Restored: And The South? By Peregrino Brimah

Are they talking to buhari? If tinubu had gotten all he had wanted, he may not have spoken out.
If he doesn't that would mean he is simply fighting for his personal gain and not the preached change. It will mean he is fighting for his pocket and not any collective interest

PoliticsTinubu, Akinrinade Predict Doom Without True Federalism by Chiaka(op): 3:48pm On Jul 29, 2015
BY DAPO AKINREFON & DOTUN IBIWOYE

*We’re in a state of war — Sen Ojudu…
FORMER governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and former Chief of Army Staff, General Alani Akinrinade (rtd), Wednesday, warned that the continuous shying away from the practice of true federalism portends doom for the country.

They said this at the commemoration of the 70th birthday celebration of Prof. Ropo Sekoni, the presentation of the book: ‘Federalism and the Yoruba Character and launching of Yoruba Insight and Innovation Initiatives,’ at the Muscon Centre, in Lagos.Tinubu disclosed that the unification Decree 34 of 1966, which makes Nigeria a unitary state, still exists after 47 years, noting that only true federalism will bring about democracy.

Represented by former Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Dele Alake, Tinubu stated that the country has only had various shades of unitary forms of government with different specifications and it is now operating a civilian ‘regime’ instead of a real democracy.

Akinrinade, who was chairman of the event, warned of dire consequences if urgent steps were not taken to practise true federalism.

He said: “We must go out and propagate federalism because the more we look for excuses not to federalise, the more we go into deep trouble.

….We’re in a state of war — Sen Ojudu
The lawmaker representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, Senator Ojudu said there was a total disconnect between the present crop of leaders and Nigerians.

He said should the Boko Haram insurgency be allowed to go on unchecked in the North, the chances of conducting a free and fair elections in 2015 remained slim.

“I must tell you that Nigeria is in a state of war.”

Hmn! My brother sorry if my comment is not very thorough and I may have been short sighted with my comment and your post I will not bother verifying because am not good with history really. But we both agree that true federalism is what we need the most to move this country forward right?. That's why country like US is progressing we claim to copy US democracy but turning blind eyes to true federalism. see US produces more oil than Nigeria in Taxas but they are into many and virtually everything.......and the non oil producing states are into so many other things and surviving on their own like the oil matter less to them.
Not practicing true federalism is hiding talents in Nigeria and making our economy streamlined instead of diversified.

Miss, I understand what you are trying to say but I disagree with you Yorubas are "always aiding the North" argument coz not only is it historically inaccurate, it also unfair and false. In fact, it can be argued that Zik (an Igboman) missed out on an GOLDEN opportunity to forge a coalition which could have salvaged the course of the country if only he had agreed to the proposition to forge an alliance with the then Action Group party after the 1959 federal elections (in that election Zik's NCNC had 81 seats, Awo's AG had 74, while Ahmadu Bello's NPC got 134 seats). Awo had subsequently approached Zik for a coalition after the results were announced and if that had alliance had materialized, both parties would have formed the government at the center at the time, relegating the North to an opposition party, and the history of Nigeria may likely have turned out differently. But alas, it didn't happened that way coz the NCNC (an Igbo Party) ended up forging an alliance with the Northern NPC which then produced a Tafawa Balewa as Prime Minister and Zik as President, while Awo's AG went into opposition. The rest they say is history. Since then up until the recent APC, the Yorubas have been in opposition (they even opposed OBJ, he wasn't their candidate, remember?). While the igbos have also had their share of power at the centre both before and after the civil war (think Zik, Ironsi, Shagari/Ekwueme and GEJ eras), even more so than the Yorubas. So why the constant scapegoating of Yorubas? ?

Thanks, that's more like it and I agree with you completely. Unlike some previous player-hating posters.
My main issue is that yorubas are always aiding the north to be in power as long as this continues, we can hardly achieve true federalism, north likes to grab power in order to maintain the current imbalance and injustice in the system and this move continues to drag the country backward and not forward. Most times I wonder why the yorubas continue to do this, sometimes I thinks its for some short term benefit which will neither profit them in the long run nor other tribes which I also see as a selfish move which keeps us far away from realising a true federalism, with true federalism even the north will move from a solely dependent and power hungry region to a self actualising one.

Happy about all these achievements by Yorubas also. Nigeria needs true Federalism some people are slowing down others. If we practice true federalism no one will be Para siting on another and everyone will be serious to develop on something.

Do you know anyone that is very humble, peaceful, unassuming, adaptive, fun, yet intelligent irrespective of their religion? Check their state of origin, they're most likely from the middlebelt! Save for a few bad eggs, most have very endearing qualities.
I grew more respect for them during the elections, I thought they were going to vote against Buhari being a Fulani man because of the way fulani herdsmen and people bully them on their lands. But surprisingly, they gave majority votes to APC even though there's also a large Christian population there. It shows they may not be phyical fighters but they can reason strategically.

The North central is the only region that hardly has militants, "freedom fighters", or whatever silly, violent, directionless, selfish, groups all other regions have.

They go about their businesses without creating drama and irritaing tantrums at the drop of a hat. Sometimes they're mistaken for "slaves" or docile people but there's a difference between being docile and wise. They're wise enough to know that fighting for their own country when they know they're not economically, socially, or politically ready to stand on their own two feet or allowing some selfish politicians to use their youths to fight "marginalization" is just NOT the way out.

The rest of us should please borrow a leaf from them. We need it urgently.
They voted because Buhari apologised to them over the killings of their men and promise that he'll end the insecurity in these regions and address herdsmen clashes and Alas! none of these promises have been fulfilled!
