Politics / OSUN GOVERNORSHIP: PDP Betrayed Us – Adeleke by chibuadanne: 2:33pm On Jul 12, 2019
Exactly a week after the Supreme Court dashed their hopes by affirming Gboyega Oyetola Governor of Osun State, Deji Adeleke who is the elder brother to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the September 22, 2018 governorship poll in the state, Ademola Adeleke has said the party betrayed the family.

Adeleke noted that the PDP did not keep to the promises it made to the family before his brother accepted the party’s guber ticket.

In a statement dated 11th July, 2019 and signed by him, Adeleke disclosed that his younger brother had no intention to contest the governorship election in the first place.

While noting that the younger Adeleke was prevailed on by the PDP leadership and elders before the family accepted “most reluctantly after receiving assurances and promises that were never kept”, he said his brother should be given a break to take a rest and decide what he would do or not do when the time comes.

He thanked all those who showed concern about the huge resources committed to execute his brother’s political aspiration as well as monies spent on litigation and counselled that money spent on elections should not be considered as investments that would be recouped upon assumption of office through corruption and banditry.

United States President, Donald Trump, has approved the massive arrest of citizens of other countries who are illegally living in the country, beginning from Sunday, July 14, 2019.

The New York Times quoted sources in the U.S Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as saying the agency will begin a nationwide raid and arrest of thousands of immigrant family members who are undocumented in the country.

The DHS officials told the newspaper that the raid will include “collateral” deportations.

The development is coming barely two months after the DHS declared that an estimated 29,723 Nigerians who entered the U.S with either non-immigrant tourism or business (B1/B2) visas between October 1, 2017, and September 30, 2018, overstayed in the country.

According to the “The fiscal Year 2018 Entry/Exit Overstay Report” released by the agency, this set of Nigerian immigrants refused to leave the U.S after their visas expired.

Politics / Why APC Petition Against Gov. Ishaku Was Dismissed – Tribunal by chibuadanne: 5:06pm On Jul 10, 2019
The Taraba State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has given the reason for the dismissal of the petition of the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate, Abubakar Danladi in the March 9 guber poll in the state.

The tribunal dismissed Danladi’s petition today, Wednesday.

The tribunal was relocated to Abuja on March 21 due to concerns over the security of its members and petitioners.

According to the tribunal chairman, Justice M.O. Adewarahe, the petition was dismissed because of the Supreme Court judgement on July 5, which upheld the Appeal Court judgement that disqualified Danladi on the grounds of false declaration of age.

Recall that Danladi and his party had approached the tribunal to challenge the victory of Governor Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The petitioners claimed that the governor was not duly elected by a majority of lawful votes cast in the election.

They further claimed that the governor’s election was invalid by reason of non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).

Joined as a respondent in the petition was the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to reports, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal filed before it by Danladi, challenging his disqualification by the Federal High Court in Jalingo.

A five-man Panel of the Supreme Court headed by the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Mohammed, dismissed the appeal filed by Danladi for being incompetent and failing to meet the requirements of the law.
