Properties / Aging In Place Furnishings- Ideal Interior Arrangement For Old People. by Chidimajeurs01: 4:03pm On May 08, 2017
Have you ever wondered about how your interior living space would look like years from now? You know that moment when you have realized that age has begun to set in and those swift movements, episodes of jumping on your favorite snug sofa is simply not the same. The truth is, as we age we pay more attention to the outlook of our homes because we are all likely to spend more time in them. We grow more & more attached to our space and inevitably grow an insatiable need to do more of what works for us. Let’s take a closer look at what works for our interior spaces in those latter years.

To avoid domestic hazards it is advisable to be picky about the sort of furniture which should be found in homes inhabited by aged people. For instance low tables, chairs with armrests and non-slippery floors are ideal options for senior citizens who are faced with limited mobility. Furniture should be sturdy, support body weight adequately and have firm cushions that support the lower back.

It is also important that the living room furniture arrangement allows easy navigation. We don’t want grandma to break her hip so let’s leave ample space between those sofas and armchairs as well as side stools. Avoid furniture with castor wheels (for obvious reasons) and all fabrics should be treated with stain resistant coating, this will help when grandpa spills his tea while trying to get a hold of the morning paper.
It’s not unusual to assume that older people have limited or reduced eyesight. Therefore, the living space of an aged person should be equipped with adequate lighting. If need be, bright floor lamps should be placed near outlets to avoid long extension cords which could more or less serve as a trip wire to the home owner.

Only a few interior designers like Majeurs Chesterfield have the ability to figure out a client’s functional and aesthetic needs which need to be actualized. Aging in place furnishing is indeed a specialized branch of interior design.
