CrimePolice Arrest Armed Robbers Who Specialise in Snatching Vehicles by chiefinalowo(op): 4:02pm On Oct 14, 2014
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested an armed robbery gang which specialises in snatching vehicles from fun seekers on Victoria Island, Lekki and Ajah areas of the state.

The suspects, Obinna Eyinma, Bernard Bongy, Moses Ogbu, Kichito Nwachukwu, Ifeanyi Okafor, Chukwuma Akubueze, David Joshua and Emeka Uche; told PUNCH Metro that their strategy was to lurk around exotic clubs on the island, targeting the vehicles of unsuspecting fun lovers.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the gang had gone to the residence of one Mr. Omisore at Eletu Ogabi, Victoria Island last week Thursday, where they had snatched one Toyota Prado Sports Utility Vehicle marked AAA690BH.

While speaking with journalists at the police command headquarters, the leader of the robbery gang, Bongy, who is a citizen of Benin Republic, said fun seekers were easy targets.

He said, “I was the one who formed the gang. I was working as a company driver before I was sacked. I was sacked along with 29 others for stealing fuel. I was frustrated and went back to my country where I met one Alhaji Sidi.

“He was a car dealer and he advised me to convince my fellow drivers to bring stolen vehicles to him and he would buy them. I took a jeep to him and he gave me N100,000.

“Later, I organised my friends to go on car-snatching operations. We had a ready market for such cars in Cotonou. We would lurk around clubs on the Island, watch the drunken fun seekers returning in their vehicles, and swoop on them.”

According to police authorities, during another operation in Ajah, the gang swooped on two policemen in the residence of their victim, and beat them up, snatching their AK-47 rifles in the process.

Bongy said they attacked the policemen and stole their guns for fear of being arrested.

He said, “A friend called Oguntimi called me that his neighbour had two new vehicles, and I could come and steal them. We used cutlasses to break into the house. While in the compound, we attacked the security man, and tied him up.

“We entered the main building and met a woman and her little baby. We asked her who else was with her in the building. We did not know some policemen were also stationed there. When we ran into the policemen, a fight ensued.

“But we overpowered them and collected their two rifles. When we collected the guns, one of the policemen jumped over the fence and escaped. We heard gunshots from outside, and we had to also flee, abandoning the rifles inside a gutter.”

Another suspect, Eyinma, said he had taken to armed robbery when his motorcycle spare parts business.

The 35-year-old indigene of Abia State said a barber on Victoria Island usually helped him to identify easy targets.

“I was dealing in motorcycle spare parts in Ikotun, Lagos. The business was not doing well and it folded up. That was when I joined the gang. I have gone with them on four operations. We planned to sell the snatched vehicle for N1.5m before the police arrested us. Now, my advice to robbers is to stop the work and look for better things to do,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police, Cornelius Aderanti, said efforts were on to arrest fleeing members of the gang, adding that residents of Lagos should be vigilant and always avail the police of credible information.

He said, “The Special Anti-Robbery Squad team led by SP Abba Kyari, on my directive, apprehended the suspects in their criminal hideouts in Obalende and Kuramo Beach. The suspects confessed to series of armed robbery operations at Ajah, Lekki, and Victoria Island areas.

“Efforts are on to effect the arrest of other members of the gang. I enjoin Lagosians to be vigilant, and to keep on availing the police of credible information. We assure people of the state that we are committed to reducing crimes to the barest minimum.”

Henceforth, no keke must ke from any of you again.

I am reviewing a few things that will require the attention of Igbo and Yoruba Intelligentsias.

Question No1: Did Igbo people that were/are predominantly business men and women lose anything during and after the war?
We all know that Igbos' businesses were/are outside the old eastern region and they rarely put their money in the bank.
The war took place in the old east where 90% of Igbo did not have a single pound but they were compensated with "20" pounds thereafter.
Lets Have it at the back of our minds that there was no case of abandoned properties in the West and the North where they came back to run their business.

I want to learn.....say something

PoliticsRe: Yoruba Movie Producers Please Mind Your Translations by chiefinalowo: 11:24am On Oct 06, 2014
mikron:
Nollywood has come to stay and waxing stronger as the day goes by to the extent that other countries want to associate with the industry which has contributed immensely to the growth of the Nigerian economy.

In analyzing how the growth of the make-belief industry has been rapid in terms of growth, many would say thanks to the English aspect of Nollywood, while some will say the Yorubas and others would want to settle for the Kannywood, but whatever aspect it is, Nollywood is Nollywood.
You will agree with me that a non-Yoruba person who does not even understand the language, will find it saddening to decode what they are saying because the translation sometimes does not conform with what the actors are saying and sometimes it is not all what the actor is saying that is being translated. The few translation they manage to give is always spelt wrongly and could be misleading at times.

You will agree with me that in terms of good story line, we have to give it to the Yoruba movies. They are very good at telling the story the natural or native way. But is faced with the challenge of relaying it with good English translation which i feel could be better if adequate attention is given to it.
I will be very grateful if you can also provide the title of these movies.
It will be sent to the appropriate quarters.

If you fail to do that, may you never be remembered for good things in life.

Nnewi—The Police in Nnewi yesterday, recovered arms and ammunition, including one AK4, Military rifle, handcuffs, 1,500 live ammunition and 30 fully loaded magazines, from an uncompleted estate at Uruagu Nnewi, owned by an overseas-based businessman.

The arm cache and others were recovered following a tip-off.

Similarly, a joint security task force, comprising the Police, Army, Navy, Department State Service, DSS, and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, raided a suspected baby factory at Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area and rescued three teenage pregnant girls during the operation.

A woman popularly known as nurse who ran the home and her agent, were arrested by the force.
According to a source, the bubble burst after one of the pregnant girls was allegedly delivered of a baby boy but was dispossessed of the baby.

She was said to have raised the alarm when she could not stomach the disappearance of her new born baby.
The baby was later recovered from the owner of the home by the security operatives and handed over to the mother.

In a related development, the joint task force has uncovered a criminal hideout in Nnewi after a search on an erosion site in Nnewi North Council Area Anambra State.

So you were more concerned about preparing yourself but not with how your 1st wife felt or if she would approve at all. Lemme guess, she had no choice to put up with it because there is a child/children in the union, she was totally dependent on you financially and she never wanted a divorce. Therefore, you backstabbed/betrayed her. You knew she would never accept polygamy so you waited until after 4 years to let her know so that she would have no choice but to accept. Thats blackmail. Marriage based on blackmail. And i am sure you are seriously fantasizing about a peaceful home devoid of divisions, hatred and voodoo with the foundation youu have now set for your marriage.
