Problem with Nigeria is that we the people are the most unpatriotic people in the world hands down! The average Nigerian is more loyal to tribe, political party... than the country SMH. Bashing our country and spreading bad news seems to be cool SMH.
It was when I came to the so called "God's own country" that I realized that Nigeria is a GREAT country and Nigerians, individually, are second to none. The West knows that the only thing that stand between us and taking over is dis-unity
Bravo! I couldn't have written it better. I'm happy I am not the only one with this form of awareness God bless you!....and "crayfish dance for your soup" lol
Justcash: I have come across several Nigerians that have complained about the way that they are being discriminated against by foreigners. They seem not to understand the reasons for this discrimination. Over the years, I have observed that the main reason for this trend is the way we present and talk about our country to foreigners. I will outline some examples to justify my point.
1: BOKO HARAM: The rise of Boko haram from a mere group of boy scouts to a full blown terrorist organization is Infact aided by the support and free propaganda executed by Nigerians. Boko haram is mainly concentrated in a small area of Nigeria, and they have been able to fight persistently. The rise in their morale is a result of the support that Nigerians unknowingly give to them through telling unconfirmed stories about their exploits. These stories are grabbed by the international media and announced, thereby making Nigeria to look like a terror ravaged country. The consequence of this is that foreign countries become more wary of Nigerians, and take extra effort to check Nigerians that are going into their countries. Unfortunately, it is the same people that spread these news that suffer most from this.
2: EBOLA: Nigeria was Ebola free before Patrick Sawyer arrived with it. Few people that took care of him got infected before he died, and the LSG in collaboration with the FG struggled and contained the disease. Nigerians blew Ebola out of proportion. Some Nigerians kept spreading rumors about Ebola findings in states that were free of it. As expected, the fictitious news about how fast Ebola was spreading in the country was grabbed by the international news media, and it created panic in foreign countries. With less than 10 deaths from Ebola, Nigerians have been quarantined most at the entry points into foreign countries. This happened in HongKong, Singapore, Malaysia, US, UK etc. Of recent Nigeria was kicked out of the youth Olympics. This is the product of the way Nigerians self-destruct themselves.
3: NIGERIAN MILITARY:The Nigerian army was respected and seen as one of the strongest in the world. This is an outcome of the years of conflict resolution at home and foreign countries. Of recent, the rise of Boko Haram has created a new challenge for the Nigerian army. Unlike in conventional warfare across borders, the enemies are within and can easily blend into the civilian population without being noticed. It is actually a difficult conflict especially as the military will have to avoid killing innocent citizens. Nigerians seem to lack understanding of this difficulty, so they keep taunting the Nigerian military. They write all sorts of anti-military texts, build propaganda to show that the military is weak and expose more of Nigeria's weakness to the world. As a result, Nigeria is seen as being very weak. The most recent effort is increasingly trying to show that the Camerounian Military is stronger than that of Nigeria. WILL IT SURPRISE ANYBODY IF CAMEROUN BECOMES GUTSY ENOUGH TO INVADE NIGERIA? We are hyping their military because they are dealing with a foreign (Nigerian) terrorist group that has barely penetrated their country. If the table was turned, and BOKO HARAM members were Camerounians, do you think It would have been difficult for the Nigerian military to contain? Like the EBOLA SAGA has shown, it is easier to contain a foreign menace. Unfortunately, Nigeria is seen as a weak nation now, and every small nation can afford to damn Nigerians now.
4: FOOTBALL AGE ISSUE: The issue of football age has become a big problem in soccer. However, the way Nigerians trumpet about the cases involving Nigerians makes it to look as if Nigerians are the biggest age cheats in soccer. As soon as a Nigerian age grade team wins a major tournament, Nigerians take to the social media and start tainting the image of the teams by making unverified statements about the true age of the members of the teams. Unfortunately, these allegations, though mostly unverified, are noted by the members of the international community, and it reduces the respect that the teams have brought for the nation. Recently, the Nigerian Falconets got to the final of the World Cup. Even though they didn't win, Nigerians have done the usual by going online and raising worrisome accusations against the patriots. They do this without realizing that they are shooting themselves on their feet. If foreign clubs had plans to grab them, these false age accusations may hinder their moves or reduce their values. Tomorrow, if the siblings of these critics are refused visa to play in a foreign country, they will blame the green passport forgetting that they are indirectly responsible for their misfortunes.
Nigerians must be careful about the way they speak and expose Nigeria. Nigeria is for Nigerians. If you kill her, you are killing yourselves. I BELIEVE THAT THE IMAGE OF NIGERIA WILL IMPROVE WHEN NIGERIANS STOP WASHING THEIR DIRTY UNDIES IN PUBLIC.
Fulaman198: Really? Exactly who are the Hausa currently bloodsheding? Last time I checked most people in Boko Haram were not even Hausa. That said, I have to back up Hausa people and I'm not Hausa myself.
since you're Yoruba, I'll say Yorubas, are some of the most cultured, mannered people in the world! Very in tune with their culture... and the language is awesome!
aljharem: I love the Igbos/Igboid because of there drive. They do with they believe in. Love their food as well, simply amazing. friendly and kind people as well. Even those on Nairaland like Igbo2011, Agbaworo, ChenyereN, freecocoa and co
The Hausas and fulanis are very friendly people as well. Very welcoming and fun loving. Never a dull moment around them . Likes of Fulaman, namfav and co have done well for the fulanis on nairaland.
The Kanuris are a special group, Just love their culture.
The Urhobos, Edos etc are just a funny set of people. They crack jokes wey fit make ur belle open. Friendly and open minded.
The Ijaws I must say are the most open minded people I have met real life. Fun loving and funny as well. likes of Ibime and co on Nairaland have painted a good picture of Ijaws.
If I was not Yoruba I would defiantly be either Ijaw or Fulani
and since you're Afam, I'm guessing Igbo.... Igbos are among the most industrious and innovative people in the world
Afam4eva: Let ma add mine.
Hausa/Fulani/Northerners: Oner thing I like about northerners that I don't think other ethnicities possess in record numbers is their kind nature. They are very kind and are always ready to help you out financially or otherwise. I also like the fact that they don't attach so much value on material things unlike their southern counterparts.
Edo/Urhobo/Isoko/Warri: These people have one thing in common. They are funny as hell and you won't be bored when you're in their midst. They also tend not to care about your ethnicity when relating with you especially the Warri ones.
Yoruba/Yoruboid: I like the fact that they take pride in their culture more than a group in southern Nigeria. They're also liberal in nature and welcoming. A Yoruba man can leave a stranger in his house and go out. The stranger can even go to his kitchen to take food and eat.
sarutobie: Thanks for the insultive correction onye nkuzi ndigbo..I know y I purposely used ibo instead of igbo..did u have to 'correct' som1 with such negative remark? Do u think you can write, speak the igbo language more than me?..kpachara anya gi ebe ahu oo! O buru na onweghi ezigbo ihe I nwere ikwu na-ebe a,biko mechie onu ure gi!!..
shymexx: Nyggah, stop preaching to me...go preach to the guy who started it. I posted a comment a few days about how slow Mikel is, but this guy had to attack me with some tribal nonsense about how Yoruba's are cursed and can't play football. Then today, I posted another comment, and he came with the same bs.
Listen, I don't give two fvcks about where you live. You live in the most underdeveloped country in the western world, prick. Fvck you and fvck America. And I could care less about Igbo's. They can't compete with Ijebu's, so you and your Igbo's need to shut the fvck up, and stop running ya putrid mouths to me.
Get the fvck out of my face!
Erm...I see.... First of all, from your own words, I guess you're a "Nyggah"....sorry for that.....I'M NOT Second, I would have given you a lecture on how great the Ndigbos (just like other tribes) are, but that would sound biased and it'll be kinda counter productive.
And most importantly, from your diction, manners, and what you brag about, I can tell you're not only highly uneducated and unenlightened, you also sound like a bitter person with issues.
Now bye bye I ain't got time for you.
Knock yourself out with your insults... like every bitter hoodlum looking for attention
shymexx: Nah phaggot, you look up to me, hence you stalk me everywhere like my fvcking byt.ch. And nah, I've not lived in England for how many years - I've lived in England all my life and I'm proud of my Ijebu ancestry and historical achievement. Something your ancestors never achieved - your yokelish ancestors were jumping from trees like gorillas butt-naked, while my ancestors were building civilisations and selling clothes to European explorers. That's what I'm proud of, phaggot. Heck, even today, your whole tribe combined can't even measure up to the achievements of the Ijebu's - go check forbes' list, you flat-headed bantu! You're Igbo and you and I aren't even on the same level in everything. I'm everything you want to be but will never be.
Anyway, enjoy this beautiful goal by a Yoruba player - I was there live with my pops in 2004, to witness one of the greatest goals ever scored by a Nigerian footballer!
I'm not Igbo but in defense, Igbos are among the most gifted and industrious PEOPLE in the world! No doubt about it.....
Now that's how I'll stand up for the Yorubas (Ijebus in your case to be specific) if any one spoke ill if them.
It's not just okay to just say u live in the UK (here in the US, we look down on any country in Europe)... U don't get a degree for that!
I just stumbled onto your rants and I must confess that I have no idea how it started BUT y'all got to apologise to each other as matured and enlightened Nigerians
davidif: Finally, Nigerian fans have been humbled. Before the game they were boasting how they were going to beat France, well how did that work out? You guys better eat your humble pie well and swallow it (make una vommit o).
Yes before the game we were boasting.... that's what fans do! I'm still proud of the team
nadia_SA: I'm south african so I hve to support my losing team
Oh okay cool was checking if you were Nigerian living over there, or mixed or what you just said. Thanks for your support tho... very rare from South Africans
