Guys I need help.
I took my car to oyo,on the way it over heated and the cylinder got condemned.
They say I go buy new cylinder and ring. I did that.
The car come start but the work no complete.
They say na coil.
We buy coil.
After changing the coils it didn't get better. We come discover say the thing don mix oil and water. Na then the meco dey tell me say the block has broken when he open the engine, so he use something to gum it so I can manage it,say na the same place wey the water dey pass enter be that. Say na to buy new block.
I've already spent 140k like this.
Now there's an engine wey dey say he knock (corolla) say make I buy the block put am for cheaper. Do you guys think it can work? And my concern is that even if it works for the rola engine to knock shey he no go spoil the block? That in the long run he go come still dey short oil. Please I need Input. This is not the time to troll me abeg I'm really going through alot

The history of the knocked engine is needed.

I once had my cracked engine block sold to someone who's engine had knocked.
Just like in your case, he removed parts from his block and fitted in mine.

The engine is still serving the guy till date.

My assurance was that my engine never overheated while in use just that cracked block.

It's something you can attempt if you can get that assurance and have it fitted, working properly before you pay.

Again, tested and trusted.

Well, I can't say much.
Like I told you on the uber thread, both generations of civic are reliable.

Although the yaris will consume less petrol, the civic is cheaper to maintain..
Civic parts are cheaper than yaris.

Mechanics are scared cos the engine bay of the civic is too tight for messing around.

Apart from mpg and 2nd hand value, the civic beats the yaris hands down in all other aspect..

Yaris engine over 300k: Civic engine over 160k

Yaris gear almost 250k: civic gear almost 100k

Yaris compressor over 50k: Civic compressor about
25k

Yaris complete shaft over 40k: Civic complete shaft less than 20k

Yaris wheel hub almost 40k for a set : Civic wheel hub is 20k for a set.

Oil leak from worn seals are common in every car when their seals wear out.
Asides that, unless u puncture the sump, I dont expect a leak.

Having driven both generations of civic, i can confirm that both share same reliability score.

8th gen(06-10) is more sofisticated and lovely.
7th gen (01-05) is bland, but does the job.

Cost of parts for both are almost the same.

I will choose the 8th gen civic, cos its roomy and classy.
The R18 engine is also one of the best engines out there, beats the corolla hands down (Fuel economy and power).


Your concern should be getting a good car not a lemon.



P.S Catalytic converter of the 8th gen civic is over 200k and more expensive than the engine itself.(160k)
