UYO—Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC’s Director of Commerce and Industrial Development, CID, Mr Anietie Usen said that the commission was currently embarking on the construction of 297 roads in Akwa Ibom State.

Mr Usen made this known in the weekend, while speaking as a guest on a radio programme, monitored in Uyo.

“The agency is operating with the same mandate as all other federal agencies in the country and not an often negative or pejorative connotations of any political party.”

Mr Usen said that, “Though the commission was under tremendous pressure under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, regime especially as it was supervised directly by the presidency, a new platform is now in operation with the ongoing reforms which now places the NDDC under the supervision of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.”

Politics / Court Stops Reps From Probing Ex-sfg Anyi by chimavincent1: 2:46am On May 08, 2017
High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting at Maitama, has stopped the House of Representatives from ordering the arrest of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, over alleged fraud in the Centenary City Project that was endorsed by former-President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

The court, in an ex-parte order that was signed by Justice U.A. Musale on May 4, specifically restrained the House of Reps by itself or through any of the security agencies, from acting on the report of its Committee on FCT which was adopted on March 16, pending the hearing and determination of a motion on notice Anyim filed before it.

The former SGF had in a suit marked CV/1303/17, which he filed through his lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, told the court that the Respondents are planning to use the said report “as a basis of directing security agencies to arrest, detain and to file criminal charges against the person of the Applicant”.

Aside seeking the nullification of the report, Anyim prayed the court to bar the Respondents from directing anybody, or any security agency to act on the report, by arresting, detaining, maligning or victimizing him, pending the determination of his suit.

According to him, “Unless the Respondents are restrained as a matter of grave urgency pending the determination of the motion on notice, they shall continue to act on the report, malign and victimize the person of the Applicant notwithstanding the present action which seeks to set aside and nullify the said report”.

Cited as 1st and 2nd Respondents in the suit are the House of Representatives and Chairman, House Committee on FCT, Hon. Herman Hembe.

Politics / Csos, Lawyers, Others Give FG Ultimatum On Buhari’s Health Status by chimavincent1: 4:32am On May 06, 2017
Civil society organisations and some lawyers have issued an ultimatum ordering the Presidency to publicly tell the true state of health of President on or before May 29.

These groups have threatened to hold protests throughout the country over the uncertainty of the President’s health status if it continue beyond his administration’s second anniversary in office, May 29.
They expressed grievances with the way information around the President’s health status is being managed by his handlers.

Some of them also called on the President to resign from office if he is unfit to fully commit himself to the task of tackling the various problems of the country.

Speaking on the secrecy surrounding the health of President Buhari, the President, Campaign for Democracy, Mr. Bako Usman, threatened that the group would protest if the Presidency failed to declare Buhari’s health status within two weeks or at most by May 29.

He said it was high time “some cabal members” stopped holding Nigerians hostage by hiding the wellbeing of the President.

He said, “ the handlers can’t be holding over 170 million Nigerians hostage because they are enjoying some sort of benefits.

“We are going to be a part of the struggle. We are protesting against the hiding of the President’s health status. History will not judge us right if we keep silent over the issue.

“We voted him into power, but his performance has been below expectations. Hiding his health status has not been helpful. There is nowhere in the constitution where the President’s health status should be treated as classified information. The secrecy is uncalled for.”

Usman said the group is giving the Presidency a two-week ultimatum for it to declare Buhari’s health status.

He said, “We have been in this struggle for long and we are not going to retire. So, if Buhari fails to address the citizens or fail to appear at the next Federal Executive Council meeting and the one following it, we will start our protests.”

Likewise, the spokesperson for Free Nigeria Coalition, Ariyo-Dare Atoye, said his group was giving “May 29 ultimatum to the presidency for full disclosure of Buhari’s health status”.

He said, “It is the irreducible minimum we’re demanding from the Presidency and President Buhari himself. We can’t continue in this occult-like political wilderness that a few persons – influence peddlers and money monger cabals- are trying to foist on us.
He said in the days to come, the group would organise a rally and even reach out to Nigerians to protest against the handling of Buhari’s health status.

“If it requires us to occupy Abuja, we are ready to partner like-minded Nigerians to achieve this.

“It has reached that level now for us to hit the streets and demand to know the health status of Mr. President. It is a price we must pay and we must be ready to salvage our nation,” he said.

Politics / Saraki Denies False Asset Declaration by chimavincent1: 5:01am On May 05, 2017
The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, who is facing trial over allegation that he falsely declared his assets, yesterday, told the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, sitting in Abuja that he has no case to answer.
Saraki, through his lawyer, Mr. Paul Erokoro, SAN, notified the Justice Danladi Umar-led tribunal of his intention to make a no-case-submission in respect of the 18-count corruption charge the Federal Government proferred against him.

He is contending that FG failed to establish a prima-facie case capable of warranting the tribunal to compel him to enter his defence to the charge.

The defendant is equally contending that none of the witnesses linked him to the commission of any offence, adding that the prosecution could not substantiate the ingredients of the charge.

Erokoro, SAN, secured permission of the CCT panel to file the no-case-application on a day FG closed its case against the defendant having produced a total of four witnesses that testified before the tribunal.

FG had in the charge with suit No. CCT/ABJ/01/15 alleged that Saraki made false/anticipatory declaration of assets before the Code of Conduct Bureau operated foreign accounts while in office as Kwara State governor between 2003 and 2011, as well as collected governorship salary four years after his tenure had elapsed.

Meanwhile, before the case was adjourned till June 8, the last prosecution witness, Mr. Bayo Dauda, who testified as the PW-4, narrated how Saraki took loan of 375million in 2010 to acquire a property in the United Kingdom.

The witness, who is a banker with the Guarantee Trust Bank, said he was Saraki’s relationship/account officer in 2003.

He told the tribunal that Saraki was newly elected into office as the Governor of Kwara state when the said account was opened in April 2003. According to the witness, the defendant was offered loan by the bank on three occasions spanning between 2006 and 2010. He said: “The first one was N380million which was offered on October 11, 2006.

The next one was also N380m granted on January 30, 2007, while the third one was N375million which was granted to the defendant on February 10, 2010”. Reading from exhibit-48 before the tribunal, Mr. Dauda said there was an agreement for the loans to be repaid through five equal quarterly installments of N76million in addition to the accrued interest.

Health / Living Without Tootbrush by chimavincent1: 9:16am On May 04, 2017
You can maintain good oral care without a toothbrush. Here’s how

Do you not have a toothbrush? That’s completely fine. If you’re very adamant about the regular cleaning of your teeth, but you’re in a situation where you don’t have a toothbrush around, you need other ways to make do. In Africa especially you need to have clean teeth and to clean them regularly. You can’t skip out and expect to have a beautiful smile or a happy oral experience. If you’re outside and you don’t have your toothbrush with you, here are some ways you can still keep your teeth clean according to dental experts.

Wipe Them Down with Cloth

We usually do this to babies when they are first getting their teeth in because it is bad to expose them to the fluoride in toothpaste. However, wiping your teeth with a small damp cloth is also an excellent way to keep your adult teeth clean. You need fabric that is soft, yet not too soft. It shouldn’t be rough or abrasive in any way as you risk stripping the enamel away. The perfect cloth is one that has a texture similar to your toothbrush back home. You should still try and wipe it off with toothpaste too. A good procedure is to wrap the cloth around a single finger and use it as a makeshift brush.

Use a Good, Mild Mouthwash

People use mouthwash quite a lot today because it takes less effort than actually brushing their teeth. The problem with mouthwash is that it contains some pretty aggressive chemicals. These can cause some lasting damage to your teeth over time and can kill all the bacteria in your mouth. This includes the bacteria that helps your body digest food. Using mouthwash is only advisable if you have no other option. Do not make the use of it a regular thing either.

Try Chewing Gum

They all say chewing gum is bad, but it can be pretty good for cleaning your teeth! Gum is one of the best ways to improve the health of your teeth and gums because of the extra spit you create in your mouth when you chew it. Saliva is your body’s own mouthwash and can wash away all the harmful bacteria in there. The act of chewing gum also dislodges any food particles in hard to reach places. You should always make sure that you’re chewing sugarless gum, though. The last thing you need is the risk of cavities!

Take Enough Water When You Can

Water is a little like saliva in terms of what it can do for your oral health. It is a wondrous thing indeed, and you should be drinking a lot of it. When you go to the dentist, what do they use to clean your teeth? A high-pressure water dispenser, of course. That’s why you have to spit into the little bowl every ten seconds when you’re there. Water contains fluoride which can destroy harmful bacteria in your teeth and gums. It also washes away food particles and plaque that is forming on your teeth.

Politics / FG – Buhari Can’t Be 100% Active For Now by chimavincent1: 9:05am On May 04, 2017
The dream of Nigerians to see President Muhammadu Buhari working at full throttle may take a long time to materialise as he has resolved to keep his medicals’ advice to take a rest.
Telling State House correspondents at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting which was again ‘missed’ by Buhari, yesterday, Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed said: “Mr. President would abide to his doctor’s medical advice so that he can recover much more quickly,” he lament
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo presided over the meeting, the third since Buhari returned from a 49-day medical vacation in the United Kingdom on March 10.
The minister also denied reports that the president was being fed through intravenous injections. He said the report was absolutely false and total bunkum and urged Nigerians not to believe it.
When asked why Buhari was absent at FEC meeting, he said: “He was in the office yesterday as you all reported. And if the doctors say he should take a rest, then i think he should do so.
“he is following the doctor’s advice. Mr. President himself told the nation he has never been this sick and he is going to take it easy. He said it from day one when he came back from the UK. So, whatever is happening now is not a strange development, it is exactly what he said. That he’s been advised to take it easy by his doctors and that he will still return for further treatment.
