The Conference of Nigerian Political
Parties (CNPP ) has urged President
Muhammadu Buhari to sack inefficient
ministers in his cabinet . A statement by
its Secretary General, Willy Ezugwu,
made the call yesterday.
He said : “ The CNPP decried the
increasing hardship that Nigerians are
enduring as a result of the appointment
of some former state governors who
plundered the commonwealth of their
states to the detriment of the masses. ”
According to the party, the
underperforming ministers have
contributed negatively to the country ’s
efforts to reposition the economy.
The statement added that it was
unfortunate that : “ A few of the ministers
were already positioning themselves as
running mates to some presidential
aspirants, notwithstanding their roles in
the decaying infrastructure .
“ Much as we are not concerned about
the political aspirations of these
individuals in the present government,
we are worried about their obvious
incompetence as ministers. ”
Ezugwu added : “ A case in point is the
selfish interest of a cabal in the corridor
of power whose actions are having
negative effects on the economy.
“ One of such is the exclusion of the
southeast in the $ 5. 851 billion China
Exim Bank loan request made by the
president in May this year .”
The statement expressed concern that
the region ’s exclusion by the supervising
minister did not take into cognisance , the
implication of leaving out the region ’ s
railway master plan .
The CNPP promised to disclose its
position on the indictments of some of
these serving ministers who had
contributed to this rot . It called on
Buhari to sack these inefficient ministers
to reduce the sufferings of the masses .

As angry protesters gathered near the scene of the attack, Somalia's government blamed the al-Qaida-linked al- Shabab extremist group for what it called a "national disaster." The most powerful bomb blast ever witnessed in Somalia's capital killed 276 people with around 300 others injured, the country's information minister said early today, making it the deadliest single attack in this Horn of Africa nation. The toll could continue to rise. In a tweet, Abdirahman Osman called the attack "barbaric" and said countries including Turkey and Kenya had already offered to send medical aid. Hospitals were overwhelmed a day after a truck bomb targeted a crowded street near key government ministries, including foreign affairs. As angry protesters gathered near the scene of the attack, Somalia's government blamed the al-Qaida-linked al- Shabab extremist group for what it called a "national disaster." However, Africa's deadliest Islamic extremist group, which often targets high-profile areas of the capital, had yet to comment. Al-Shabab earlier this year vowed to step up attacks after both the Trump administration and Somalia's recently elected president announced new military efforts against the group. The Mogadishu bombing is one of the deadliest attacks in sub-Saharan Africa, larger than the Garissa University attack in Kenya in 2015 and the US Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998. Doctors at Mogadishu hospitals struggled to assist badly wounded victims, many burned beyond recognition. "This is really horrendous, unlike any other time in the past," said Dr Mohamed Yusuf, the director of Medina hospital. Inside, bleary-eyed nurses transported a man whose legs had been blown off. He waited as surgeons attended to another badly injured patient. Exhausted doctors struggled to keep their eyes open, while screams from victims and newly bereaved families echoed through the halls. "Nearly all of the wounded victims have serious wounds," said nurse Samir Abdi. "Unspeakable horrors." The smell of blood was strong. A teary-eyed Hawo Yusuf looked at her husband's badly burned body. "He may die waiting," she said. "We need help." Ambulance sirens echoed across the city as bewildered families wandered in the rubble of buildings, looking for missing relatives. "In our 10 year experience as the first responder in #Mogadishu, we haven't seen anything like this," the Aamin Ambulance service tweeted. Grief overwhelmed many. "There's nothing I can say. We have lost everything," wept Zainab Sharif, a mother of four who lost her husband. She sat outside a hospital where he was pronounced dead after hours of efforts by doctors to save him. The country's Somali-American leader, President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, declared three days of mourning and joined thousands of people who responded to a desperate plea by hospitals to donate blood. "I am appealing all Somali people to come forward and donate," he said. Mogadishu, a city long accustomed to deadly bombings by al-Shabab, was stunned by the force of Saturday's blast. The explosion shattered hopes of recovery in an impoverished country left fragile by decades of conflict, and it again raised doubts over the government's ability to secure the seaside city of more than 2 million people. "They don't care about the lives of Somali people, mothers, fathers and children," Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire said of the attackers. "They have targeted the most populated area in Mogadishu, killing only civilians." Rescue workers searched for survivors trapped under the rubble of the largely destroyed Safari Hotel, which is close to Somalia's foreign ministry. The explosion blew off metal gates and blast walls erected outside the hotel. The United States condemned the bombing, saying "such cowardly attacks reinvigorate the commitment of the United States to assist our Somali and African Union partners to combat the scourge of terrorism." It tweeted a photo of its charge d'affaires in Somalia donating blood. But the US Africa Command said US forces had not been asked to provide aid. A spokesman told The Associated Press that first responders and local enforcement would handle the response and "the US would offer assistance if and when a request was made." The US military has stepped up drone strikes and other efforts this year against al-Shabab, which is also fighting the Somali military and over 20,000 African Union forces in the country. Advertisement opens in new window The United Nations special envoy to Somalia called the attack "revolting," saying an unprecedented number of civilians had been killed. Michael Keating said the UN and African Union were supporting the Somali government's response with "logistical support, medical supplies and expertise." The spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned the attack and urged all Somalis to unite against extremism and work together to build a "functional" federal state. Saturday's blast occurred two days after the head of the US Africa Command was in Mogadishu to meet with Somalia's president, and two days after the country's defense minister and army chief resigned for undisclosed reasons. Amid the chaos, the stories of victims began to emerge. Amino Ahmed said one of her friends, a female medical student, was killed on the eve of her graduation. The explosion also killed a couple returning from a hospital after having their first child, said Dahir Amin Jesow, a Somali lawmaker. http://mobile.newsnow.co.uk/h/World+News/Africa |

A coalition of militants in the Niger Delta, Friday
threatened to attack oil pipelines in the region,
following the revelation by the World Bank that
President Muhammadu Buhari directed the
financial institution to concentrate development in
northern Nigeria.
The groups – Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusaders,
NDRC and 21st Century Youths of Niger Delta, in
a statement by WOI Izon Ebi, also condemned
Army’s Operation Crocodile Smile II.
Be a part of this
Until the end of October 1,000 partial
Scholarships to Nigerians
The statement read, “The current revelation of the
World Bank and the present NNPC scandal has
given us no choice but to activate our digital
strike team to swing into action to stop further
exploration and exportation of oil from the Niger
Delta.”
“For it is very obvious that this present
administration is for the North only, without
putting into cognizance that 90 per cent of the
resources that sustain this nation is from the
Niger Delta.”
“We want to warn that this deliberate provocation
and intimidation by the northern oppressors to
provoke the Niger Delta people would be
counterproductive because we are going to resist
them with the last drop of our blood and a
devastating response,” it said.
The militants said the determination “to start
attack on all oil infrastructures,” saying, “We
would not allow our resources to be used to fund
only the north and intimidate us, rather than
developing the Niger Delta deprived of its God-
given resources since 1958.” “The antics of their divide and rule tactics would never work again in the Niger Delta in this 21st century because the world and all honest Nigerians have seen the antics and tactics of the federal governments’ insensitivity and insincerity after the adoption of the 16-point agenda of PANDEF on the 3rd of August 2017. “It is still very fresh in our minds the betrayal of Isaac Boro to keep Nigerian one, the killing of Ken Saro Wiwa and the Ogoni 9 and the dehumanization of their bodies with acid, the genocide in Odi, the genocide in Gbaramatu Kingdom,” the coalition asserted. “We the NDRC and the 21st Century Youths and all affiliate organizations are determined to prove to the world that we are not cowards. The present military operation called Operation Crocodile Smile II that is currently going on in the Niger Delta would not deter us neither would we be intimidated because the current agitators have succeeded in taking the struggle from analogue to digital.” “We have successfully proven to our oppressors before the ceasefire that we have the capacity to stop the flow of our God-given resources as our clamour and fight is for equity and justice.” “We have also succeeded in educating our brothers that we do not have any problem with the military because the military are victims of the northern political elite’ conspiracy because of our God-given resources.” The coalition, which had declared a ceasefire after the Federal Government and PANDEF met August 3 in Abuja, asserted: “We, therefore, want to warn the federal government that the deliberate provocation of the Operation Crocodile smile 2 in the Niger Delta is a waste of time.” “We know our targets and no Niger Delta youth of this 21st century would be seen in the old fashion. We want to use this medium to advise our elders and leaders of the Niger Delta that our generation called the 21st century would not make the mistake our fathers made that have portrayed them as cowards as if the Fulani and Islamic jihadists have conquered the Niger Delta. “We want to warn that the planned islamization and conqueror approach by this present government would be resisted with the last drop of our blood in this 21st century. We advise our brothers to be calm and steadfast and avoid any confrontation with the army because we the 21st century youths and other agitators have the ability to stop the flow of our oil in our backyards. “Our grievances and agitations are genuine and nobody can or would be able to intimidate us with whatever military operations because we already know their aims and objectives. We want to warn that we are closely watching their actions and inactions and would respond at the appropriate time as we still believe in the eminent members of the PANDEF that persuaded us to ceasefire for sincere dialogue, for lasting peace for the rich, but impoverished people of the Niger Delta,” the merger added. “If our understanding and sincerity is taken for granted, it means we would have no choice but to prove that we are not cowards and we would start implementing our next line of action for operation zero barrel of oil in the Niger Delta because enough is enough.” http://mobile.newsnow.co.uk/h/World+News/Africa/Nigeria |
Today, I have decided to treat one
serious matter with all the seriousness it
commands. It is the matter of who
becomes President in 2019. Muhammadu
Buhari , the incumbent is not saying
anything , either vocally or through his
usual body language . He is just quiet ,
leaving so much about his intention in
2019 to guess work and the antics of the
now celebrated cabal in Aso Rock Villa.
There is apparently no reason for this
numbness . The key issue of ill health
appears evidently settled and the
President has no other clear impediment
on the road to 2019, except himself .
He has been up and doing everything
presidential since his return from the
second medical vacation in London that
lasted 105 days. Also, no proposal about
another prolonged medical vacation in
London has been sent to the Senate . For
the first time in the last two years, it is
right to say President Buhari is hale and
hearty. On the whole, things are looking
up for the President . Nobody , except
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in the All
Progressives Congress (APC), is discussing
2019 seriously . Everybody is waiting for
the President to say something before
other things can come .
It is a legitimate aspiration if the
President who will be 76 years old in
2019 decides to stand for re - election. The
constitution says so in Chapter Six
Section 135 . But a cocktail of factors, one
of which is the alleged pre - 2015
agreement for Buhari to do one term and
then clear the way for others is causing
little unbelief in a 2019 Buhari project.
His new - found vigour and vitality
notwithstanding, health is also a factor .
Yet another is his inexplicable aversion,
even under a democracy and atmosphere
of geo - ethnic tensions, to engage to
resolve burning national issues .
And then in real governance, there have
been more reasons to doubt Buhari than
there have been to believe him . Overall ,
the integrity test is not adding up . People
are still cutting grass in the desert with
N250 million . Five hundred million naira
obtained in just one underhand deal is
regarded as chicken feed that shouldn’ t
attract serious attention from the anti-
corruption agencies . The story of
Nigeria ’s economic incapacitation after
the PDP years was believed until the
breaking of a fresh story only two weeks
ago of how Nigeria National Petroleum
Corporation (NNPC ) rapidly awarded
contracts amounting to $ 25billion in
about three months.
That sum is not chicken feed. It is about
25 percent larger than the national
budget of N 7trillion and about 85 percent
the size of the country ’ s external
reserves of $ 30billion . This has not made
President Buhari to issue any quotable
quote on the $25billion contract bazaar
at the NNPC , except his plea for the
matter to be taken off the public space
and settled amicably as it is done in
family disputes between the whistle
blower, Dr . Ibe Kachikwu , the junior
minister in the petroleum resources
ministry and the contracts giver, Dr .
Maikanti Baru , the Group Managing
Director (GMD ) of the NNPC .
Since then, Dr . Kachikwu has been
talking as if he was misquoted by the
press, especially after NNPC came up
with what looked like an explanation of
the deals . The man is disappointing me . I
had thought he was smarter. He has
abandoned the main matter and has
been beating about the bush. Five
percent of $ 25 billion is $ 1 .25billion . This
is the fee for blowing the whistle on Baru
and it is legitimate earning . Many of the
people listed in Forbes Magazine as
world richest do not have that kind of
money. Kachikwu should resign as a lame
duck junior minister and ask for his
whistle blower fee, which is more than
good to take home to Onicha - Ugbo .
Sorry for the digression . As I was saying,
on the matter of 2019, the odds against
Buhari are many and visible too .
Nigerians are looking for somebody with
a strategy to fix the economy, the skewed
polity , poor infrastructure and other
failed aspects of national life , not
somebody with a truck load of integrity
and good intention , both of which are by
products of a good strategy.
But we have to be fair to Buhari . If Chief
Olusegun Obasanjo , who is much older
than Buhari and a Yoruba man could
have his two terms and had even asked
for a third , why can ’t Buhari have his
own two terms for justice sake ? Can we
in all sincerity say Obasanjo was better
than Buhari ? The whole debate about
national question is also about perceived
injustices in the Nigerian system. I advise
therefore that we approach equity with
clean hands as we handle this delicate
matter of Buhari and 2019.
First, I am not persuaded by the
argument of Aisha Alhassan that there
was agreement for Buhari to do a single
term. Which agreement is she talking
about ? Even if there was one , it can be
broken to pieces and it will not be the
first time that it will be happening.
Obasanjo broke agreements and even
aspired to break the constitution itself.
Heavens did not fall . Goodluck Jonathan
also broke agreement . It was only Umaru
Musa Yar’ Adua who did not live long
enough to be tested on compliance that
did not break agreement.
Even before the recent series of
agreement breaking, General Yakubu
Gowon had broken one as far back as
1975 regarding transition from military
regime to a democratic government. Gen .
Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida was a serial
agreement breaker; so was late Gen . Sani
Abacha . Agreement breaking in Nigeria
is not a big deal . I think what we can do
is to work out a mechanism for Buhari to
break one more agreement with the least
uproar.
And this is actually the point I want to
make today. I have been listening to Mrs.
Aisha Buhari since she became First
Lady. She is always on point. She was the
first to draw attention to the existence of
complete strangers in Aso Rock, who are
causing her husband to do strange things
like abandoning trusted allies in the
battle of 2015 and vowed not to
campaign for his re- election in 2019 if
the trend persisted. This was before the
complications that precipitated the
prolonged medical vacations in UK . Upon
her arrival from UK in one of her visits
to see her sick husband , she noted
gleefully that at the appointed time,
which would be very soon , the jackals
and hyenas , in apparent reference to the
same set of stranger dwellers in Aso Rock
Villa, would be hunted and thrown out of
the villa. http://mobile.newsnow.co.uk/h/World+News/Africa/Nigeria |

Mr. Olukoya Ogungbeje, Counsel to billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, also known as Evans, has accused officers of the Inspector General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team of extorting over N50m and other valuables worth millions of naira from his clients. Ogungbeje made the claims in a petition to the Police Service Commission, PSC, National Assembly, the Inspector General of Police, the National Human Rights Commission, and Amnesty International. We are using this medium as our own way of galvanizing institutional sanity, cleansing and reform in the Nigeria Police Force as an institution. “As we speak, the brother in law and other relations of our client are still being detained and tortured by the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IR) Link: http://mobile.newsnow.co.uk/h/World+News/Africa/Nigeria |
