Ahmed Gulak's death calculated to instigate the Northerners against the Igbos - Gov. Akeredolu

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state has described the murder of Ahmed Gulak' as senseless and wicked, saying it was calculated to Instigate the Northerners against the Igbos.

The former Presidential aide was murdered on his way to catch a flight at Sam Mbakwe International Airport.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state openly condemned the greusome murder in a statement titled ; Ahmed Gulak; A Killing Too Senseless and Wicked.

In his words he said, "The killing of the former presidential aide is calculated to instigate Nigerians against each other, particularly northerners against the igbos living outside the South-East. We must confront the enemies of the people with a view to neutralizing them. This is definitely not the time for political correctness. Banditry should not be allowed to subvert the legitimacy of the current government at all levels".

While some persons said the murder was political, others said it was connected with ethnicity.

Akeredolu further said " We call on all security agencies to collaborate with a view to unviel the criminal elements sponsoring and undertaking terrorist acts. They must be punished severely".

The same North that was against the amalgamation for the fear of being oppressed by the educated, civilized, exposed, enlighteed, illuminated south is now the oppressor, is now saying we can't break away.

The amalgamation was carried out cos North could not find it's budget while south was running surplus.

Regional Government wasn't favourable hence the changes and introduction of the fraud called constitution, the elite and politicians can never be against it or be for you cos it favours them yet we all can't speak for ourselves.

Nairaland GeneralThe Nigerian Constitution On Academic Qualifications For The Various Positions by Chimighty007(op): 3:36pm On May 29, 2021
The Constitution in arriving at the actual and intended meanings ascribed thereto. Section 318(1) defines and provides thus:

“(a) a secondary school Certificate or its equivalent, or Grade II Teacher’s Certificate, The City and Guilds Certificate; or (b) education up to secondary school certificate level; or (c) Primary Six School Leaving Certificate or its equivalent and – (i) service in the public or private sector in the Federation in any capacity acceptable to the Independent National Electoral Commission (“INEC”) for a minimum of ten years, and (ii) attendance at courses and training in such institutions as may be acceptable to the Independent National Electoral Commission for a period totaling up to a minimum of one year, and (iii) the ability to read, write and communicate in the English Language to the satisfaction of the Independent National Electoral Commission; and (d) any other qualification acceptable by the Independent National Electoral Commission;”

It is evident from the above definition section of the Constitution that the meaning of “school leaving certificate or its equivalent”, for the purpose of section 131(d), is a lot more flexible and accommodating than the popular view. The section gives room for candidates with the Primary School Leaving Certificate coupled with experience in the private or public sector and who have attended courses during the period of the service totaling up to at least a year to contest. In addition, such Primary School Certificate holder must also demonstrate the ability to read, write and communicate in the English Language to the satisfaction of no one else but the INEC.

Note also that the conjunction “and” and “or”, as they appear at the end of each subsection, are to be interpreted conjunctively and disjunctively respectively. In other words, a candidate may choose to rely on any one of (a), (b), (c) or (d) of Section 318(1) in isolation. A candidate need not meet all the requirements to be eligible to contest. It suffices to say that only a candidate relying on (c) must also satisfy the conditions in (i), (ii) and (iii).

While (a) above requires a candidate relying on same to produce a Certificate evidencing that he has passed the Secondary School Examination, a candidate relying on (b) need not produce certificates to show that he sat for or passed the Secondary School Examination. The candidate relying on (b) only needs to show evidence of having been educated up to the Secondary School Level. “Evidence” here is being used in a generic way and does not in any way require such candidate to compulsorily or mandatorily produce a Secondary School Leaving Certificate. Evidence can be in the form of testimonials, affidavits or even photographs. Furthermore, a candidate relying on (c) must produce his/her Primary School Leaving Certificate and further demonstrate to the INEC that he can read, write and communicate in the English Language, show evidence of service in private or public sector and produce attendance of courses and training in the course of service. Subsection (d) indeed extends the definition and states further that “any other qualification acceptable to the Independent National Electoral Commission” will be sufficient. A lot of discretion is placed on INEC by said Section, and same must be exercised judicially and judiciously.

My input:

Where do we expect good leaders to come from with this kind of condition for eligibility for the highest office in the country

I wonder how youths in their twenties and thirties were able to run Nigeria and it was great, organised and fought war for 3yrs, same youth now that they're of age are doing worse than they could have done in their teens

You see why we keep fooling ourselves, mocking ourselves, being sentimental and tribalistic while the politicians we protect knows no religion, party affiliation, region or tribe.

Without the response of the East, IPOB, ESN, MNK, take or leave it, most of us would have become refugees, the ongoing so-called constitution review and call for Restructuring wouldn't have come

They have immunity in One Nigeria, not in a restructured and fragmented Nigeria that's why they won't support or sponsor, they make us believe that the sponsors of these are enemies of the state.

For the change to come some will die so it's not new

Igbos Are Not Being Cheated Or Marginalized- Sen. Ndume Says as he Slams Biafra

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, who is also representing the Borno South Senatorial District, Senator Ali Ndume has dismissed the agitations by some groups for Nigeria to break up, saying that the country is better as united entity.

The Senator also said that whatever grievances that people have can be solved within the constitutional framework that presently exist and if there is need for reforms it can also be addressed amicably without any recourse to violence or threats.

Speaking in a recent interview with Punch, Ndume noted that the cry of marginalization by the South East was unnecessary because they do not contribute much to country’s wealth.

He noted that 90 percent of Nigeria’s revenue comes from the South-South, yet that region has not been crying about marginalization or about being cheated. He added that the only demand that the South-South is making is for the oil derivation that accrues to them be reviewed upward from 13 percent.

“When you talk about oil, 90 per cent of the resources we depend on to survive in Nigeria is coming from the South-South geopolitical zone, yet the people there are not talking about dividing the country. They are also not worried about who is spending the money realised from oil sales.”

“In the South-East, it is only Abia State that has an oil producing area. So, where did you get that idea that the Igbo are being cheated or marginalized,” he queried adding that only the South-South have a reason to cry about marginalization or being cheated.

The senator was speaking in the context of the claim by some leaders and groups in the South East that the region has been marginalized politically and economically, especially since the end of the civil war.

Some of the evidences of the marginalization according to proponents of the marginalization theory is the refusal of the Federal government to build the second Niger Bridge and the lack of a sea port to allow for free movement of people and goods in and out of the South East. They are also frustrated that no Igbo man has been elected Nigeria’s President.

This sentiment is what gave birth to secession groups like MASSOB and Indigenous People of Biafra who are agitating for an independent state for the Igbos called Biafra. Another ground for their agitations is that the north is liability on the other parts of the country, hence their insistence on a united Nigeria.

But Senator Ndume says such sentiment is unfounded and baseless, adding that the Northern Nigerian is blessed with tremendous amount of natural resources and even large deposits of oil and gas. According to him crude oil has been found in Sokoto, but what is left is for exploration activities to commence.

He also pointed to the presence of oil and gas in Borno, Bauchi as well as the Chad and Gongola basins adding that very soon, some Northern states will be counted as part of the oil producing states. The senator also disclosed that Zamfara has a large deposit of gold.

The Senator who says he feels disgusted by the idea that the north is a liability on Nigeria, opined that while the Southerners freely move up north to get juicy government jobs, the same cannot be said of the northerners who only go to the south to provide services that are needed.

Accomplishing Sardauna’s mission
By Sunny Awhefeada

Sir Ahmadu Bello

On the eve of Nigeria’s independence in 1960, the departing British colonisers manipulated the system for the Hausa/Fulani to hold the reins of the nation’s political power. The British wanted Nigeria tied to their apron string and they didn’t trust the well educated and savvy Southerners. The calculation of the British tallied with the aspiration of Usman Dan Fodio, the great grandfather of Ahmadu Bello (Sardauna of Sokoto), who led the Sokoto Jihad of 1804. Dan Fodio had established the Sokoto Caliphate after a bloody crusade. His eyes were set on overrunning the terrain as far as the Atlantic Ocean, but resistance slowed him down until the colonial enterprise halted the march of his descendants when the Sokoto Caliphate capitulated in 1903. So when the British manipulated the Hausa/Fulani into power on October 1, 1960, the latter saw it as the restoration of an ancestral mandate. Ahmadu Bello the great grandson of Usman Dan Fodio was in the vanguard of the Caliphate resurgence.

Ahmadu Bello’s mission was encapsulated in a speech he purportedly delivered on the 12th of October 1960, twelve days after Nigeria’s independence. The relevant excerpt that is in wide circulation reads, “The new nation called Nigeria should be an estate of our grandfather, Othman Dan Fodio. We must ruthlessly prevent a change of power. We must use the minorities in the North as willing tools and the South as a conquered territory and never allow them to rule over us or have control over their future.”

Dan Fodio’s Jihad and Ahmadu Bello’s speech are agenda setting phenomena. The ongoing brutal subjugation perpetuated by Fulani herdsmen all over Nigeria received impetus from them. Much of the tension that gripped post-colonial Nigeria can be traced to the Dan Fodio agenda and Ahmadu Bello’s mission. The Western Region crisis of 1962 was a direct consequence of the Ahmadu Bello led Northern Peoples Congress (NPC) avowed determination to overrun the West. The United Middle Belt Convention (UMBC) led by Joseph Tarka also tried to resist the supremacist agenda of the North. This led to the Tiv riots of 1964 and its brutal quelling by the military. Both events were cardinal to the fall of the First Republic through the January 1966 coup.

The coup dismantled the Hausa/Fulani hegemony, but their soldiers resisted the change in political power. They launched a pogrom against the Igbo and brought a puppet made in their own image, Lt. Col Yakubu Gowon, to power. A Civil War followed. By 1975, the Hausa/Fulani clique was fed up with Gowon. They kicked him out and brought in their own, Murtala Mohammed. As part of the resentment against Hausa/Fulani fascism, Middle Belt soldiers killed Murtala in 1976. Another puppet-soldier was found in Olusegun Obasanjo who acted according to instruction and handed over power to the Caliphate anointed Shehu Shagari. When it became clear that power would leave the North after Shagari’s tenure, Hausa/Fulani soldiers removed him and put Muhammadu Buhari in office. Ibrahim Babangida, a middle Belt soldier of fortune used guile to shove Buhari aside and became the nemesis of Hausa/Fulani power mongers. Although he was beholden to them, he kept them at bay for eight years. When M. K. O. Abiola, a Yoruba was set to succeed Babangida having won a free and fair election, the Hausa/Fulani would have none of it. Sani Abacha seized power. Circumstance brought Abdulsalami Abubakar to power and he handed over to the old puppet-soldier Olusegun Obasanjo at the behest of the Caliphate. Umaru Musa Yar’ Adua took over from Obasanjo. After him came a Southern minority Goodluck Jonathan. The Northern oligarchy intimidated him out of power and once more brought in Buhari the supremacist per excellence.

Under Buhari’s watch Hausa/Fulani irredentists disguised as herdsmen, to whom he is patron-saint, have taken up the mission of Ahmadu Bello. They are taking the Jihad everywhere in Nigeria. There is hardly any state in the Middle Belt and Southern Nigeria that has not been dehumanised by the marauding neo-Jihadists. The most recent killing field is Benue State. Sadly, the Nigerian security forces have not been able to apprehend even one of the killers. Yet, it took the Army only six days to kill the mastermind of the New Year day’s killings in Rivers State! The Nigerian military has in recent times tormented the South with such frightening military actions like Operation Crocodile Smile and Operation Python Dance, yet it has not found it imperative to launch an operation to halt the rampaging sons of Dan Fodio.

Nigerians must find a way of putting an end to this looming intra-colonialism. The solution lies in restructuring, a concept the Caliphate colonialists loathe. Caliphate hegemony is enjoying great impetus under Buhari. Let the clamour for restructuring liberate Nigeria the way nationalism did in 1960. The new proposal of building cattle colonies across Nigeria is a ruse to evolve Caliphate colonies and accomplish Sardauna’s mission. Nigerians must stop it.

Northern Govs kick over Gov Ortom's community security plans

*Holds meeting, pressure Buhari to stop plans

*Say he is in breach of the constitution

Some Northern States Governors of the All Progressive Congress (APC) are allegedly holding secret meetings with President Muhammadu Buhari in a bid to stop Benue state governor Samuel Ortom in his plans to from armed vigilante groups in the state.

A source well aware of the development who spoke with Daybreak newspaper revealed that many states governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in some northern state are not comfortable with the community policing security arrangement of the Benue state government and have risen up against it on grounds that it is against the constitution and an attempt to from a parallel security outfit in Benue state.

Daybreak recalls that Thursday last week the Benue State Government, had approved the establishment of vigilante groups to combat the high rate of insecurity in the state.

Governor Samuel Ortom while briefing journalists in Makurdi on the outcome of the expanded stakeholders’ meeting held at the new banquet hall of the Government House said renewed attacks on the people by armed herdsmen had overstretched security agencies, noting that the state government had decided to enforce “the law to provide for the establishment of community volunteer guards (vigilantes).”

He said the vigilantes would be constituted from the community to local government levels to complement the operations of conventional security agencies across the state.

Ortom explained that the recruitment process would commence immediately, adding that those to be recruited would be within the age range of 18 to 50 and mostly ex-service men.

“Those to be recruited are ex-service men and people from 18 to 50 years, and they must have stable sources of income and must have lived in their respective communities for a minimum of six years and they must be of impeccable characters and be loyal. All the vigilantes must carry weapons that are licensed so that anytime there is external aggression, they must be able to rise up to defend themselves.” Ortom had said

He said the vigilantes would have the full support of the state government with logistics as provided in the law, adding that the recruitment of personnel would be carried out in the 23 local government areas of the state.

Our source revealed that an APC governor of a Northwestern state that has been in the news recently for the spate of students kidnapping besetting his state is spear heading the opposition against Ortom and championing the anti Ortom security plans.

The dependable source revealed that the Governor zoomed out of his state on Saturday for Abuja at the heat of an APC primary election crises in his state, to seek audience with the president alongside some other APC governors.

The plans of the governors according to our source is to persuade president Buhari to move against Ortom by making him see that Ortom is in breach of the constitutional with his plans to arm vigilantes across the Benue state.

The fear, according to our source is that the Benue governor’s security arrangements will be duplicated and spread to other states if allowed to stand.

“ the fear of the governors is that if Governor Ortom is allowed to have his way other state will sooner than later follow suit and this would be a disaster for the federal government and the security architecture in the country as it would lead to an uncontrolled arms proliferation across the country”
