The mother of one of the students who was kidnapped at the college of forestry and mechanisation in Afaka, Igabi LGA, in Kaduna State, has spoken about her attempt to secure the release of her child. Recall that sometimes in March about 39 students were taken by armed bandits in the institution. Since the days following the Kidnapped, the parent have made all efforts to secure their release and it has been to no avail which is why they are calling he government to come to their aid. 10 students have been released which means that 29 are still in the custody of the criminals. Earlier today, there was a protest in Abuja by the families, friends and loved ones of the other ones that are still in custody of the bandits.

Speaking in a video that was published on twitter by Roots TV, one of the parents narrated the efforts they have put towards securing the release of their children. According to her, they have been to series of meetings as they try to get their children's freedom. She recalls when Islamic cleric sheikh Gumi introduced them to one Ahmed who in turn invited a Fulani man for talks. After discussions with the man, they were able to put together the sum of N800,000 to give the man. They were shocked when he told them that the money was just for his transport before leaving.

On hearing that, she started crying and told him that she was just a widow but still, he showed no care. Another mother reveals that all her conversations with the kidnappers have only led her to realise that they want to negotiate with the government alone. They kept telling her to cry out to the government and tell them to pay the N500m ransom they are demanding.

The whole essence of this kidnap and threats to kill them it seems is geared towards getting the government to negotiate. But Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai has maintained his stand not to negotiate with criminals. While some have stood with him, others criticize his resolve.

Let make it clear, I am an old Nigerian patriot. I believe in the idea of Nigeria. I am a believer in the Great Nigeria Project. But I have read enough history and enough political theory to say that there are no guarantees for any nation on earth. The British historian Arnold Toynbee, in his epic study of world civilisations, identified about 22 of them.

Nations and civilisations have risen and fallen. And it will continue to be so, world without end. Leaders that make wise policy decisions will see their countries move forward; those that succumb to folly will eat the dust of their own wickedness. This is how the world works. So, for Nigeria, I do not believe in our eternal indissolubility. From the way things are going, some people are hell-bent on destroying the country. They are pushing forward their evil agenda of “Fulanisation and Islamisation”. They do not give a damn what anybody thinks. They believe they are in power and this is perhaps the last opportunity they have to reshape the country in their own image.

Through Pantami’s devious NIN palaver, they are allegedly importing millions of aliens and issuing them with passports, national identity cards and voter cards. The gestalt and hermeneutics of this administration leads us to believe they have a closet sympathy for the killers of our people. One of them was quoted as saying, “as you know, we always rejoice when Christians are killed”. With these kinds of attitudes, we never trust them. We would always have to decode and psychoanalyze even their best intentions.

The tragedy of our situation has encouraged all sorts of secessionist tendencies, from the Old Biafra to Oduduwa and Middle Belt. Based purely on systems theory, there is no system that can take on so much pressure without something eventually giving in. Even those of us old patriots who love our country and desire its success and prosperity may be in no position to stop the madmen who are hell-bent on destroying her. If Carthage must be destroyed, then it is better for everyone to go their own way.

The only solution, as I see it, is restructuring, political reforms, devolution of powers to the regions and reinventing Nigeria as a forward-looking, progressive and prosperous democracy. The other alternative is death.

Adamu Garba has taken to his official Twitter page to react after Buhari's Regime blamed late Murtala Mohammed for acute insecurity.

According to information revealed by a reliable social media platform called "Peoples Gazette", the Buhari's administration has blamed the rise of Insecurity in Nigeria on the inability of late General Murtala Mohammed's regime to carry on with its policy on compulsory free education for the citizens born after 1970.

While featuring on a Channels TV programe on Monday, Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed stated that the nation's recent hardship could be traced back to the failing of the past military junta.

According to him, he said, "The fact is that in 1973, we were informed by the lead discussant, and that the government of the day they had a retreat, and said there must be a national pledge that what is that thing that we must do to ensure that we did not go through another civil war".

52 Northern Groups Ask UN, Others To Back Biafra Agitation

According to the group, Northern Nigeria has never experienced the present level of exposure to criminals and bandits under the régime of Buhari.

A coalition of 52 northern groups on Monday called on the global community to intervene in persuading the Nigerian government and United Nations to facilitate the final actualisation of the Biafran dream by the Igbo.

While describing as empty and of no effect “threats and promises” by President Muhammadu Buhari, the CNG said “between December 2020 and April 2021, over 970 students were abducted from their schools in the northern part of Nigeria with a substantial number still in captivity and some violently executed.”

The spokesperson of CNG, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, raised the views in a communiqué after an emergency meeting in Abuja.

According to him, Northern Nigeria has never experienced the present level of exposure to criminals and bandits under the régime of Buhari.

He said, “The CNG hereby resolves to call on our friends and the international community, the UK especially, to understand that our bilateral friendship is guided by the principles of sovereignty, promotion of peace and the standards that guide legitimate interference.

“Hence, their intervention, exclamations and actions should not be drawn to discountenance the effort of the Nigerian state to protect citizens from violence and terror.

“We finally wish to renew our request for the global community’s intervention in persuading Nigerian authorities and the United Nations to facilitate the final actualisation of the Biafran dream by the Igbo.

“The world should keep in mind that by far, a destabilised Nigeria will certainly threaten the peace and security of the entire sub-Saharan Africa.

“In the South, gangs of armed IPOB militia, violent secessionists and an assortment of militant groups appear to sense a huge vacuum in the capacity and political will by the Federal Government to challenge them, which they exploit with disastrous consequences on the nation’s security assets and specifically on northern communities and individuals living as minorities in the South while the presidency wallows in deflecting the issue.”

The CNG, however, attacked the Indigenous People of Biafra, saying it “is now taking a more ominous and repulsive form and context with an open declaration of violence and anarchy against other parts of Nigeria and the Nigerian State.”

Sheikh Gumi to Nigerians: You will regret it if Pantami is removed


Prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has stated that the nation will regret it if minister of communications and digital economy is removed from office.

Several Nigerians including pressure groups have requested for the sacking of Isa Pantami after videos from the 2000s resurfaced wherein the minister was seen supporting Al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

However, the communication minister, Pantami has recanted his past views on the terror groups, saying his position at the time was based on his understanding as a teenager.

Speaking on the development via an interview with Roots TV, Sheikh Gumi said the allegations against the minister are unfounded and should be discarded.

“You cannot Islamise the whole world. Jesus Christ came; he could not Christianise the whole world. Nobody can Islamise or Christianise Nigeria,”

“All his actions, one hundred percent, shows he is not a terrorist. Those who are terrorists are after his life. The minister should continue. His presence there is fighting the terrorist ideology.

“Show me one person he has killed. He has not killed anybody. He has not ordered the killing of anybody. Discard the fake news. The man is stabilising a government among a section of youths, which we want them to come and join in nation-building. They should not throw him away. Leave him. He is not a terrorist sympathiser.

“And you people are fighting them. No. You should get more people like Pantami and put them in power. It will stabilise. Don’t remove him. You’ll regret.”

Recall that the presidency has also defended Pantami, alleging that information and communications technology (ICT) companies are the ones behind calls for the minister’s removal.
