Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson has accused the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike of deliberately inciting disunity in Ijaw land in respect of political agenda.

The two governors have employed the age-long dispute between the two states over oil fields/wells (Soku, Rivers and Oluasiri, Bayelsa).

“I want it recorded that Governor Wike is deliberately inciting disunity in Ijaw land because of his ethnic supremacist political agenda which he knows that Bayelsa, particularly Governor Dickson and my agenda will not support. That’s what he is doing.”


Dickson also used the opportunity to debunk Wike’s allegation that he visited the Amanyanabo of Kalabari without following protocol, saying that he made sustained efforts to contact Wike without success and directed his Chief of Staff and the ADC to speak to their counterparts in Rivers, who promised to inform their boss of the impending trip, which they did.

Describing Wike in derogatory terms, Dickson, a former police officer and lawmaker said, “The governor of our neighbouring state, Governor Wike of Rivers State, who by the way is used to making careless remarks from time to time, went into his usual habit some few days ago. Let me put it on record, this is the first time I will formally respond to Wike in this formal way. I have always ignored with pain and regret all the previous vituperation and his attempt to belittle and intimidate this state and our leadership.

“His unfriendliness towards this state is not hidden. It is not just me, it is about our state and our people, he has done that a couple of times but I decided to stomach it for several reasons. Also, my involvement in the affairs of the Niger Delta and my commitment to the well-being of our people, made me to always shy away from having open confrontations with a brother governor, particularly of his state that is so closely tied to our state.

“Wike should stop interfering with the politics of Bayelsa State, you all know what he did in the PDP primaries and the roles he played supporting the APC in their federal takeover of our state, there are so many things he has been doing that I keep quiet about.

“Wike should learn to respect his colleagues for whom he has shown scant regards, not just for me, and Bayelsa. He is having oil wars with every state around him, with Imo and Akwa Ibom states. What is wrong with him?” Dickson added.

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Monday, declared that he has not promised any ethnic nationality in the state the position of governor.

Wike said only God has the capacity to make any ethnic nationality governor of Rivers State.


He spoke during a solidarity visit by the Ogoni Ethnic Nationality at the state’s Government House Port Harcourt.

According to Wike: “Let nobody say that I have met with Ogoni Ethnic Nationality and I promised them Governor. I didn’t promise because I cannot give.

“It is only God that will give the position of Governor. With proper arrangement, things can be done. Don’t say I made a promise, don’t rely on anyone, just work hard. As Nyesom Wike, I can only support, but cannot make anyone Governor.”


He urged Rivers people to take him as an example where a leader declared that over his dead body would he emerge governor but he still became.

“Take me as an example. Someone sat here and said over his dead body would I be Governor. Am I not Governor today? I am heading towards eight years.

“Nobody should threaten you that you cannot be Governor. Don’t take the position of God. Don’t allow anyone to take the glory of God”, Governor Wike said.


Speaking further, Governor Wike stated that Senator Magnus Abe would have become the Governor of the state if he listened to his advice and left the then government of Rotimi Amaechi with him.

He noted that with the elections over, it is time for governance. He thanked the people of Ogoni Ethnic Nationality for supporting him to win the election

He urged the people of Ogoni Ethnic Nationality to be united and work together in order to achieve set goals, as well as build bridges across various ethnic nationalities to succeed politically.



The Governor advised Ogoni people with the intention to run for governorship election in the state to be fully prepared to struggle for the position.

He noted that no administration in the state has given Ogoni people the number of appointments his administration has given them.

“No administration in this state has given Ogoni people more appointments than me”, he said
Governor Wike used the forum to intimate the people of Ogoni Ethnic Nationality on the State Government’s decision to acquire Shell’s share in OML 11.”



He regretted the negative propaganda by some people in the area. He advised them not to allow criminals to speak on their behalf.

He said: “We have allowed criminals to speak for us. Some leaders use criminals to speak on their behalf. The next thing you hear, I am an ex-agitator. What are you agitating? You collect money everywhere and become ex-agitator.

“We sit back and sponsor criminals to talk on behalf of Ogoni Ethnic Nationality. How many of you have come out to say what that boy is saying is not correct.”

Speaking during the Solidarity Visit, Gbenemene Tai and Chairman, Supreme Council of Ogoni Council of Traditional Rulers, King G.N.K. Giniwa lauded the governor for his support to the Ogonis. He pledged their unalloyed and unflinching support to the administration.

Presenting the address of the people of Ogoni Ethnic Nationality, Senator Bennett Birabi thanked Governor Wike for the numerous infrastructure put in place in Ogoni land. He also commended Governor Wike for the restoration of peace in the state and Ogoniland.

He also lauded the governor for the acquisition of OML 11 for the benefit of the state and Ogoni people.

The operation was in a joint operation with personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Adenegan said that the recovery was made during a raid at Ivbiodohen Forest, in Ivibiodohen Village, 5 Kilometers from Uzebba community in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo.

He explained that during the operation, the troops raided three different camps with warehouses at various points for storing marijuana.

Adenegan said that in camp one, the combined team recovered 19 jumbo bags, containing 32 blocks of substance suspected to be cannabis, and 22 bags containing 10 blocks of the same substance.

Another 18 bags containing the same substance, but yet to be parked as well as eight locally made guns.

He revealed that in camp two, the troops recovered eight bags of substance suspected to be cannabis and discovered suspected cannabis plantation.

Adenegan said that in Camp three, the troops recovered 545 bags of substance suspected to be cannabis, 113 jumbo bags of the substance suspected to be cannabis seeds and arrested one suspect in connection with the crime.

He added that at the end of the operation, the camps were burnt, while the suspect, the eight locally made guns and samples of the substance suspected to be cannabis were handed over to the NDLEA for further action.

“We are once again using this medium to solicit for the general public cooperation in the area of information sharing on criminal activities within the State and its environs

The Nigerian Army will not relent on its effort at ensuring a peaceful Edo and environs,” he said.
