Politics / Nddc Forensic Audit: 6.4bn Demands As Bribe From The Imc As A Cover Up Projects by Chinanny: 1:36am On May 28, 2020
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on Tuesday accused some Federal lawmakers of demanding payment oF N6.4 billion from it for Unverifiale Projects.

It also accused the members of asking it not to send “certain files” to its forensic auditors in a bid to scuttle the probe ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the NDDC urged the management of the National Assembly to investigate the activities of the lawmakers.

Acting Managing Director Prof. Keme Pondei, who spoke at the NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, said most members of the two National Assembly committees on the NDDC were not aware of the motives behind the action of the chairmen of the committees.

Senator Peter Nwaaoboshi is the chairman of the Senatr Committee on Niger Delta while Rep Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo is the chair of the House of Reps committee.

Piondei said: “We have faced so much pressure from some members of the National Assembly not to send certain files to forensic auditors. We fear this will compromise the integrity of the exercise and have refused to do their bid.

“We have refused to pay out N6.4bn for the 132 jobs which have no proof of execution. We believe that an IMC set up as a cleansing structure cannot become part of the old story of rot,” he said.

Pondei lamented that 50 per cent of NDDC inability to deliver on its mandate came from the stranglehold of the National Assembly on the commission.

He said the IMC was courageous enough to tell members of the public the truth about the overbearing and selfish attitude of some federal lawmakers on the commission.

Pondei also alleged that the National Assembly was fond of delaying the passage of the commission’s budgets.

He said: “The 2019 budget was passed two months to the end of its implementation period. In fact, the hard copy was received by the commission on April 10, 2020 when the implementation period ends in May 31.

My thoughts on Tony Okocha’s continued insult on Amaechi.

Over the weekend, my attention was drawn to the above titled treatise of May 20, 2020, by Chief Tony Okocha, former Chief of Staff under Amaechi when he was the Governor of Rivers State. Having painstakingly perused through the whole gamut of the piece, I willingly respond to same in good conscience.

In the first place, Chief Tony Okocha is eminently entitled to his views and opinion on any pertinent issue or issues requiring public attention and discourse, as a free citizen of Nigeria and a son of Rivers State. Yes, it is his inalienable right. And I commend his boldness and courage in this regard, as much as I believe he will appreciate to be told the simple truth by those who find time to respond accordingly.

However, as much as I appreciate your concern on the state of affairs of our beloved Party, the APC , my major concern is on the morality and motive behind your casting aspersion on the person of our leader CRA and his leadership style on one hand and compelling us to praise and support Wike’s government on the other hand through references, innuendos, allegories and sarcasms, heavily ladened with apparent contradictions.

Crime / Strange Death Hits Bonny Island, Rivers State by Chinanny: 3:31pm On May 24, 2020
There is an unconfirmed report that the NLNG plant failed last week and the raw gas in the plant was not channeled back to a containment chamber rather it was gradually released into the atmosphere.

This week there's been growing complaints by many inhabitants of their inability to taste or smell; both senses seem inactive or disabled. It was also gathered that two workers from the plant was rushed to Delta Clinic, PH for treatment of complications resulting from possibly same circumstances.

At this point, it's not confirmed other possible health failures that may have occurred amongst the people resident in the Kingdom, as many are undergoing different forms of treatment for a strange type of malaria and typhoid.

The LG Authority, Multinationals, Traditional Authorities are working together with health workers to carry out test on the sick to ascertain cause of these deaths

Politics / Rotimi Amaechi Mourns Justice Adolphus Karibi-whyte. by Chinanny: 7:12pm On May 23, 2020
Minister of Transportation, Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has expressed profound sadness and pain over the demise of retired Supreme Court jurist, Justice Adolphus Karibi-Whyte.

Amaechi, who refers to the deceased as a father and great advisor, had during his time as governor of Rivers State appointed Karibi-Whyte Pro Chancellor of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) to strengthen the institution’s education and values.

He said, “Justice Karibi-Whyte for me was a father figure. He was an exemplary personality, a great advisor and I have the utmost respect for him.

“During his tenure as Pro Chancellor of RSUST where he brought his astute disposition and intellect to bear, there was a remarkable turnaround in the quality of education and handling of affairs in the institution.

“He was also a key member of the State’s Economic Advisory Council when I was governor and my administration and Rivers State benefited richly from his wealth of experience and expertise.

“As a Justice of the supreme court, he was very upright, fearless and upheld the rule of law. He was a colossus and great teacher. I will miss him deeply. Rivers State and Nigeria just lost a good man, a great man”, Amaechi said.

Amaechi prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed Justice Karibi-Whyte and comfort for his wife and entire family.

Politics / NDDC: Who Is Afraid Of The Presidentai's Order For A Forensic Audit? by Chinanny: 12:16pm On May 22, 2020
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) was established in the 3rd Quarter of the Year 2000, under the Act No.6 of the National Assembly which provides for the repeal of the defunct Oil Mineral Producing Areas Commission Decree 1998. This bold move was geared towards a re-organized management structure for an effective Commission by the Federal Government, in favour of the Oil producing areas of the Nigeria, otherwise referred to as the Niger Delta region.

The agitation for resource control by the Niger Delta region which has resulted in the 13 percent derivation fund, paid directly to the Niger Delta States, is obviously not commensurate to tackle the ecological challenges and environmental degradation which is the Siamese twins of oil exploration. The NDDC was therefore envisioned to stand in the gap, as a direct presence of the Federal Government in the region.

After 19 years of the establishment of NDDC, it is worrisome, that the vision of the founding fathers has remained far-fetched, rather, the Commission became a prisoner of sorts, to vested interests who had turned it into an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM). The annual budget of NDDC, which runs into billions of Naira has not made deeply felt impact in the lives of the people of the region. It turns out that a few people have become billionaires by constantly calling the shots in the Commission. Nobody dares ask any questions, else, one would have dared to ask how NDDC awards contracts for the supply of desks and chairs, to schools in the region, to the same contractor, at over N3bn annually. There is evidence that this annual contract is never executed. Rather, the contractor delivers a couple of desks and chairs to his own warehouse, and uses same to service similar contracts from State Governments in the Niger Delta region.

The rot in the Commission had eaten to deep that despite billions of Naira allocated to meaningful projects, only activities like “Training”, “Desilting”, “Solar Power” and “Workshop” get quick attention, and gulp huge sums of money, like the N6.4 billion that generated controversy, sometime ago. The IMC of NDDC reportedly received a request for payment of some phantom skills acquisition programme, to the tune of N3.842bn, representing about 60 percent of the total sum of N6.404bn. The refusal of the IMC to honour such spurious request, it is believed, is partly the reason for the numerous petitions and “sudden” probe.

President Mohammadu Buhari chose to rejig the Commission after several scandals and petitions bothering on fraud, but decided that it will be worthwhile to know the history of funding of the Commission, so as to chart a course for the future. This resulted in the Forensic Audit of the 19 years of the Commission, which, of course, includes the first 4 years of the Buhari administration.

No sooner had the Audit began, than fireworks rented the air, in the guise of petitions. A barrage of petition has inundated the Presidency, all in an attempt to stop the audit.

Events / COVID-19: NDDC Kicks Off Distribution Of Medical Supplies, Relief Materials by Chinanny: 5:29pm On May 21, 2020
The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has kicked off the distribution of medical supplies, relief Materials and Public Enlightenment Campaign to contain the spread of Coronavirus Disease, covid-19, across the Niger Delta Region.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony at the NDDC Warehouse, in Trans-Amadi Industrial Layout, Port Harcourt, the Commission’s Acting Managing Director, Prof. Kemebradikumo Pondei, lamented that the poor state of health facilities in the country, and specifically in most states of the Niger Delta region was a major constraint in the fight against covid-19.

He said: “No doubt, the disease has also taken its toll on the socio-economic well-being of citizens, especially as most small and medium scale businesses have been affected with the lockdown imposed in the states.”

Pondei noted that the economic wellbeing of the people of the region was further dwindled due to the series of lockdowns being imp
osed by both the federal and state governments as a precautionary measure to mitigate the spread of covid-19 in the country.

Priestley Nna Blast Worgu Boms “Self-Serving Obedience”

I read what would appear to be Worgu Boms’ version of his “Grass to Glory” kind of story and how in his narration, his first and only gratitude and loyalty was to Justice Iche Ndu, former Chief Judge of Rivers State, rather than to the man who employed him and paid his bills for four whole years.

Still as part of his spirited efforts to cast aspersions on his former boss and drag his name to the gutter, Worgu Boms Esq, in his account, which was alloyed with several inconsistencies and half truth, claimed Amaechi ordered him not to attend the valedictory ceremony of his predecessor, Justice Ndu, which he obeyed even though it made him appear to be ungrateful to the man who recommended him to his boss for appointment.
