Recently there has been a trend of good music. Every artiste topping the iTunes chart is doing something right one way or the other because the Nigerian music industry has become highly competitive, and we all must admit that fact. Climbing to the top and earning a spot in the limelight has become a tedious sport, and all of our musical giants will attest to this. The journey is not for the faint-hearted, and that is why every new artiste coming on board has to brace themselves, and standing from my viewpoint, it takes a lot of belief in oneself to dare to venture into this space at this time. Without further stress, we already know that anyone out there being talked about has exceptional skills and has dished out great music. One of these many talented and unique young acts would be Lucid, aka #Lucidthefirst. He is going to drop a song titled Tatashe on the 26th of this month, and from the little clip I have seen, I think he can give Omahlay, a strong force in the industry, a run for his money. I have done a little research on his, and here are some details you might want to know about him and his new release. Read up on the artiste here: Lucid Biography Check the pre-release video on Twitter:
Here., You would love the short clip so here is the PreSave Link; https://onerpm/Tatashe

Yeah, most of the documentation here might be incorrect and exaggerated. Some really popular artists might not really be getting what these bloggers think they are getting, but because they appear more popular than others, they automatically think that is the case. Some have been underground and stacking their paper, eg Yung6, Naeto C, SauceKid, and Bigiano... just to mention a few. If you're interested, read Bigiano's rise to fame here |
Mentioning Portable Zazuu in the same sentence with Bigiano sounds a little bit abstract, is there really any similarities between these two totally different men. But what could be the reason for bringing them out on the same page? Similarities do not really have to do with personality or genre of music, could be background and journey to fame. For those who do not know, Portable came into the limelight in the Nigerian music scene in 2021 with the help of Kogbagidi and Pocolee who is a known video vixen and a dancer. But Portable did not just emerge from nowhere, he had been banging in the streets of the slums in the rural areas of Lagos state for over a decade and was patiently working his way towards a breakthrough, which he eventually got in 2021. Even with his huge success and dramatic turnaround, Portable Zazu has succeeded in carving such a personality which has placed him in a bad light, especially amongst spectators who hold morals in high esteem. He appeared in various news where he has been caught instigating violence or being in physical fights. His history on the streets has done no justice to his personality either, Portable over time was accused of street fights, gang attacks, and even theft. It is understandable that one would wonder what similarities would warrant Bigiano to be placed in the same article with an artiste with such questionable character, one as Portable Zazu. Everybody remembers Bigiano, or better still the exciting single that had the whole nation head over hills in the whole of 2008. The smash single "Shayo" had something similar to that of Davido if you think about it. If you remember, Davido broke out with the single "Dami Duro" in 2012., the song obviously gained instant acceptance and there were rumors about the song involving numerous contributors and also controversy about Davido's father not being in support of his music, but that is not the reason for this post. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CyUo6rQ2rU As soon as Dami Duro dropped, Davido gained nationwide fame, noticeably, the energy, promotion, acceptance, and drag over time with the single Dami Duro that he enjoyed can be categorized or put on the same scale as that of Shayo. Unlike Bigiano though, Davido followed up with a couple of other projects with success, for reasons which are readily known to the public and understandable. It is rumored that Davido made his decisions himself and managed his projects personally unlike Bigiano who placed his managerial tasks in the hands of international entities who also, understandably might have been overwhelmed by the outcome of Shayo. Needless to say, using the yardstick of the outcome of Shayo, statistics tell us that the song ranked top 5 throughout the year 2008 due to the massive amount of airplay, shows, and streams it amassed. Bigiano's fanbase Skyrocketted as people started making remixes of the song "Shayo" all over the world. In 2008, Shayo was like a song from the future, it came with a vibe of its own and didn't really compare to songs that were in vogue at the time. It was in a category of its own. The song won various awards and nominations. So, what is the point of this? You would think that Bigiano would have made his listing onto pages like GLAMCODEMEDIA https://glamcodemedia.com/ and https://www.newstimeworldwide.com/ for starters. But Nigeria is a hostile place where trends come up almost every day and your relevance is always called to question no matter how consistent you might be in some cases. As a talented artist, it is either you are dropping songs and albums almost consistently or you're dropping songs and albums for a signed hype under your own record label. Either way you have to remain in the public eye, and whatever you do in the public eye determines your strength and ability to remain strong in the industry. But how about an artist doing his thing but away from the public eye? Imagine if Olamide dropped EniDuro and went Awol, would you think he will still be relevant in 2022? Yes, there is a yardstick for measuring that and getting a probability report. What did Olamide do with his first hit? Did he relate with colleagues in the industry? Did he reach out for collaborations? In that short time did he put any of his people on? A producer maybe? The answers to questions like this will lead you on the right path to deciding if a particular artiste would have maintained relevance for a long time in the industry. Following his elevation and moves over the years, would one have been able to determine if Olamide would've retained longevity? It is not about the professionalism in your lyrics or songs but the little moves you make with the fame you managed to muster with a glorious hit. How did you manage it further and what good did you do with it. That is how we determine how far a person would go in his career if they kept on in the industry. As for Bigiano, what are the things he did during the time of the release of Shayo to prove he would've had longevity? For starters, he was very humble and was ready to network with industry players at the time, and never had issues with giving rights to people who wanted to make remixes to his songs. An example of those was the remix of Shayo featuring Vector and Illbliss. Many did not know but Bigiano left the music scene to do some philanthropic duties while setting up a business with the sole aim of empowering people and youths in particular. With these statistics you can tell that had Bigiano remained in the music industry releasing music, today he will be compared with Davido and Olamide who have artists representing them or their labels today which in turn have kept them relevant over the years. |
First, I must say Rest in Peace to those who lost their precious lives on Sunday the 5th of June 2020 at the Cathedral due to an attack including an alleged explosion or sporadic gunshots. Anyways, it doesn't even matter, what matters is that there was an attack, on a premise that is supposedly holding children of God who were there to worship him. Many left their houses hale and hearty and were expected back home in one piece, but that is not their story now. People have gone ahead to blame the Fulanis while the media and government are still using their favorite term "The Unknown Gunmen", even if one of the above is right, at the end of the day, it should not be tribalized, the question is, what the hell is a typical human being going through or must have gone through to make them feel extremely comfortable to carry out an unjustified attack, one such as gruesome as the one perpetrated on Sunday? Mr. Tony Oyatedor in his book Leadership https://www.newstimeworldwide.com/leadership-the-book/ a country's first priority is peace and not security. One will wonder what sense does that make, but then, when the focus is not on peace, the demands of the people will be overlooked, rather, the people in power will start investing in guns and weapon to keep the innocent masses in check and also keep them from demanding for their rights. And when this goes out of control, people will definitely want to make their voices heard in the worst way possible. Could it be what we are seeing in Nigeria today? So, how has misinformation and limited access to education complicated the situation in Nigeria? A certain sect or religion looks up to some specific set of people by default. They follow these people blindly, almost as if thinking for themselves is illegal. This is a very dangerous scenario and makes it easy for mind control, it is no wonder in the north, that education is being trampled upon by some so-called elites. Imagine if the masses had a good education, developed a mind of their own, and are properly informed, especially about a particular belief or religion. Extremists are victims of mind control hence a nation should work towards reducing the number of uneducated people in the country. I am very sure you will not find an educated person amongst terrorists and if you do, it must be their leaders, those selfish people who are taking advantage of uninformed minds to ochestrate havoc for political gains. |
Over the years, there have been a couple of names who have held it down for the battle rap culture over the years and articles like these will not serve their purpose without making reference to those names. Some with pure intentions for the growth of the culture and some in it for the quick benefits but one way or the other, these people have shown an immense contribution to the culture. Names like Ayo Bawss, Turk BRL, Aq, Loose Canyon, Dejinious, Dabu Da Gemini, Holyfield, Spikey, Slimzy, Gzone, Jaypachino, Jung, Flowshow, and a couple of others. The Movement and Involvement But how did we get here? How did it get started, what were the challenges and what is the plan for the future of Battle Rap in Nigeria? Battle Rap in Nigeria has come a long way and contrary to popular belief, Battle Rap in Nigeria boasts of a deep-rooted history amongst old-timers and the new school acts alike. Its root in the Nigerian HipHop vicinity can be traced as far back as the late 80s when it was majorly indigenous and ultimately entwined with HipHop events, especially in Nigerian Universities. A few of our current Mainstream artists have had their fair share competing on campuses and of course for rap battles, the likes of Freestyle, Eldee, 2Shots, RuggedMan, and the late Dagrin to mention but a few. In the newer category, of course, artists like Egica, Dremo, Loose Canyon, OlaDips, Blaqbones, Zlatan, etc all spazed out in their prime one way or the other in Battle Rap somewhere in a Nigerian school campus most likely.
