Foreign Affairs / President Obama Defends Trump Protester At Clinton Rally by ChineduSamuelB(m): 10:18am On Nov 06, 2016
President Obama turned the tables on the crowd at a Hillary Clinton rally -- sticking up for the free speech rights of a Donald Trump supporter who interrupted him today in Fayetteville, NC.
About 10 minutes into the president’s remarks, Obama was tearing into the Republican presidential nominee’s character when a protester holding a Trump placard interjected.
“Hold up, hold up, hold up, hey listen! Listen!” Obama said as the crowd drowned out the man’s protests with boos and chants of ‘Hillary.’ “Hey hey. Listen up. Hey everybody. Everybody hey. Hey. I told you to be focused and you’re not focused right now. Listen to what I’m saying.”

The commotion -- which lasted for several minutes -- continued as the president struggled to regain the attention of the raucous crowd.
“Hold up. Hold up. Hold up. Everybody sit down and be quiet for a second. Everybody sit down and be quiet for a second. Now listen up. I’m serious. Listen up,” Obama demanded. “You’ve got an older gentleman who is supporting his candidate. He’s not doing nothing. You don’t have to worry about him. This is what I mean about folks not being focused.”
As the man was being removed from the crowd, Obama defended the man’s constitutional right to free speech.
“First of all, we live in a country that respects free speech,” Obama said. “Second of all, it looks like maybe he might have served in our military and we ought to respect that. Third of all, he was elderly and we got to respect our elders. And fourth of all, don't boo. Vote!”
The president’s plea for boo-birds to turn their frustration into action at the polls is a common one as he has campaigned for Clinton across battle ground states. Whenever the president references Donald Trump, the crowd often boos.
“Don't boo, vote! Come on,” he continued. “Now, I want you to pay attention, because if we don’t, if we lose focus, we could have problems. This is part of what's happened here during this election season. We just get stirred up for all kinds of reasons that are unnecessary.”
“Just relax,” Obama said coolly, drawing laughter, before continuing on with his remarks.

Foreign Affairs / Secret Service Rushes Donald Trump Off Stage At Rally by ChineduSamuelB(m): 10:06am On Nov 06, 2016
Members of the Secret Service rush Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump off the stage in Reno, Nev. (Photo: John Locher/AP)
RENO, Nev. — Donald Trump was abruptly brought off the stage by Secret Service in the middle of a Saturday night rally when an unidentified man apparently tried to rush the stage.
Multiple witnesses near the front of the stage told reporters that they believed that the man had a gun, but the claim could not be confirmed by Yahoo News. The Secret Service said no weapon was found.
Trump had paused his stump speech to call out a protester when several Secret Service agents suddenly rushed to him and grabbed him off the stage. Chaos ensued as the crowd began to hurry away from the stage. Some moved back toward a barricaded area where the press corps was set up and began screaming at them.
“Why don’t you cover this!” a man screamed as reporters stood on their chairs with cameras, trying to get a better look. “Liars!”
As rally attendees began to fearfully race for the exits, Trump aides rushed to the candidate’s traveling press corps and ordered them to immediately head to the motorcade.

Reporters ran through the crowd. Heavily armed police officers with machine guns were seen escorting a man backstage. They declined to comment to reporters about the incident.
Trump’s traveling press corps was initially rushed toward the motorcade, amid word from the campaign that the candidate would not return to the stage. But about seven minutes after the incident began, Trump’s entrance song — “God Bless the USA” — suddenly boomed throughout the convention hall and reporters hurried back in the room, where the candidate retook the stage.
“No one ever said it would be easy for us,” Trump said, thanking the Secret Service. And then he returned to his usual stump speech.

After the rally, Trump released a statement thanking law enforcement officers. “I also want to thank the many thousands of people present for their unwavering and unbelievable support. Nothing will stop us – we will make America great again!” he said.
This was not the first time Secret Service have rushed to protect the Republican nominee at a campaign rally. In March, Trump was surrounded by agents after a man suddenly headed to the stage at an event in Ohio. The man, 22-year-old Thomas Dimassimo, was blocked before he ever reached Trump and was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. Trump claimed the man was tied to ISIS, but experts dismissed the assertion.

Foreign Affairs / ISIS Executed 284 Men And Boys As Coalition Forces Closed In On Mosul by ChineduSamuelB(m): 6:36am On Oct 22, 2016
Those killed on Thursday and Friday had been rounded up near and in the city for use as human shields against attacks that are forcing ISIS out of the southern sections of Mosul, the source explained.
ISIS used a bulldozer to dump the corpses in a mass grave at the scene of the executions -- Mosul's defunct College of Agriculture in the north of the city, the intelligence source said.
The victims were all shot and some were children, said the source, who wanted anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media. CNN could not independently confirm the claim.
The United Nations earlier said it is "gravely worried" that ISIS has taken 550 families from villages around Mosul and is using them as human shields as Iraqi and Kurdish forces battle the terror group for control of Iraq's second-largest city.
Two hundred families from Samalia village and 350 families from Najafia were forced out Monday and taken to Mosul in what appears to be "an apparent policy by ISIS to prevent civilians escaping," Ravina Shamdasani, deputy spokeswoman for the UN Human Rights Office, told CNN.
Meanwhile, ISIS militants attacked security buildings in Kirkuk, 175 kilometers (109 miles) southeast of Mosul.
Latest developments
• The UN human rights chief cites reports that civilians have been shot dead by ISIS.
• Nearly 30 ISIS militants have taken over a building in southern Kirkuk and fired on security forces.
• Twelve people were killed in a separate ISIS attack in Dibis.
• Iraqi-led forces have recaptured at least 100 square kilometers (39 square miles) of territory, CNN analysis shows.
UN had expressed concern
Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said his office had evidence of several instances since Monday where ISIS forced civilians to leave their homes in outlying villages and head to Mosul. It also had received reports that civilians suspected of disloyalty had been shot dead.
Iraqi army and militia forces arrive Thursday in Saleh village in the offensive to wrest Mosul from ISIS.
"We are gravely worried by reports that (ISIS) is using civilians in and around Mosul as human shields as the Iraqi forces advance, keeping civilians close to their offices or places where fighters are located, which may result in civilian casualties," Zeid said.

"There is a grave danger that (ISIS) fighters will not only use such vulnerable people as human shields but may opt to kill them rather than see them liberated," he said.
His office is examining reports that ISIS shot dead at least 40 civilians in a village outside Mosul.
Any ISIS fighters who are captured or surrendered "should be held accountable in accordance with the law for any crimes they have committed," he said.
Security forces surround 2 Kirkuk locations
Dozens of militants targeted four police stations and Kurdish security offices in Kirkuk, spreading themselves out through neighborhoods.
Security forces killed at least seven ISIS militants in Kirkuk, officials there said, but there was no information yet on civilian casualties. Images broadcast on local television showed what appeared to be dead or injured fighters on the street.

Security forces arrive with armored vehicles Friday after ISIS attacks in Kirkuk, Iraq.
Nearly 30 ISIS militants took over an unoccupied building in Domiz district in southern Kirkuk and started firing on security forces there, according to security officials. Iraqi security forces are surrounding the building now, and sporadic clashes continue.
The situation remains tense in the city, with at least two ISIS bombers hiding inside two buildings in southern Kirkuk, security officials said. Security forces surrounded both locations.
Local authorities imposed a curfew in Kirkuk.
The media wing of ISIS, Amaq, said online that ISIS fighters had attacked Kirkuk before dawn and taken control of 10 neighborhoods as well as carried out attacks to the north and south of the city.
Previous attacks by ISIS militants on Kirkuk have been attempts either to capture the city from the Peshmerga, as the Kurdish fighters are known, or divert Kurdish troops from the fight in Mosul.
In a separate incident, ISIS militants also attacked a government building in Dibis, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) northwest of Kirkuk.
Twelve people were killed, including nine Iraqi employees and three Iranian contractors

The most likely reason for Friday's assault in Kirkuk is disruption, with ISIS demonstrating it can deploy resources far behind the front lines, CNN's Michael Holmes said near Mosul.

"It's long been thought that there would be something like this going on in more than one place around Iraq as the Mosul offensive got under way," Holmes said. "There's been speculation that there are ISIS sleeper cells, or ISIS fighters, within reach of places like that for some time, from Baghdad to places like Kirkuk."
The city's significance stems its large oil reserves, which are almost as much as those in southern Iraq.

Iraqi planes have dropped more than eight million leaflets over ISIS-controlled areas of Anbar, Kirkuk and Nineveh provinces, the Iraqi Joint Operations Command said. The fliers ask residents to call in tips to a toll-free phone number.
On Thursday, fighting outside of Mosul as part of the offensive to retake ISIS' last bastion of power in Iraq was the fiercest yet, with Iraqi-led forces meeting strong resistance from militants.
Iraqi Maj. Gen. Maan al-Saadi said 200 ISIS fighters were killed as Iraqi forces captured the Christian town of Bartella, the latest win for the coalition of around 100,000 closing in on Mosul.

Celebrities / Judge Seals Photo Of Taylor Swift In Groping Lawsuit by ChineduSamuelB(m): 4:04am On Oct 22, 2016
Taylor Swift has earned a small victory in her lawsuit against a radio DJ.
A Colorado judge ruled in favor of Swift on Friday, agreeing to keep a photo of DJ David "Jackson" Mueller allegedly groping her at a 2013 concert from the public until the case goes to trial.

The "Bad Blood" singer's attorneys filed a motion last week requesting to seal hundreds of pages of court documents, as well as the photograph that allegedly depicts said groping, arguing that the photo was inappropriate for public consumption.
"It is all but assured that the photograph will be shared for scandalous and prurient interests -- reasons that have nothing to do with the public's interest in the Court's decision making," Swift's attorneys stated in court documents obtained by ET, also noting that releasing the photograph might make it hard to find an impartial jury.
While the motion to seal the photograph has been granted, the judge did not rule in favor of restricting access to all of the court documents requested by Swift's attorneys -- as well as the documents requested by Mueller's side.

Mueller filed a lawsuit against Swift in September 2015 for defamation, claiming that the singer falsely accused him of inappropriately grabbing her at a 2013 concert. Mueller denied the allegations, and was fired from his job as a radio host and DJ two days after the alleged incident.
Swift filed a countersuit a month later, in October 2015, for assault and battery for the same incident, alleging that "Mueller did not merely brush his hand against" her while posing for a photograph, "he lifted her skirt and groped her."
The "Blank Space" singer has said that if she wins her countersuit, she will donate any money received to "charitable organizations dedicated to protecting women from similar acts of sexual assault and personal disregard."

Crime / Girl Reportedly Died Taking An"extreme Selfie" by ChineduSamuelB(m): 2:43am On Oct 22, 2016
According to the BBC, a 12-year-old Russian girl, solely identified as Oksana B, fell to her death after taking a picture of herself sitting on the railing of a seventeenth-story balcony. She allegedly sent the photo to a friend right before falling.
The news organization reports Oksana’s friend noticed the picture was taken from a “risky location” and sent it to the girl’s mother after Oksana didn’t answer her texts, but by that time, the person who allegedly first spotted Oksana’s body on the ground below the building had called the police. Oksana reportedly had told her mother she was going to take a walk when she went up to the balcony.
Police have not confirmed Oksana was taking a selfie before she died or that taking the picture was what caused her to lose her balance and fall to her death, but the BBC reports the alleged photo has not yet been released.

Foreign Affairs / Video Woman Accuses Trump Of Touching Her Breast Outside U.S. Open In 1998 by ChineduSamuelB(m): 6:52am On Oct 21, 2016
Another woman came forward Thursday accusing Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump of “inappropriate sexual conduct” in a press conference called by women’s rights attorney Gloria Allred.
Allred introduced Karena Virginia, a yoga teacher and “inspirational speaker,” at the London Hotel in Manhattan — within walking distance of the famed Trump Tower.
“After Donald Trump was caught on tape bragging about groping women, a number of women came forward to share their experiences,” Virginia said. “I am here today to add my voice to that of the other Trump accusers. I am here to stand up to Mr. Trump for myself, my family, particularly my daughter, and for all the women who deserve to be respected and not subjected by sexual abuse or groped by powerful men who believe that women can be groped, grabbed or kissed at their pleasure.”
Virginia said she came forward to support the other women who were courageous enough to share their stories. She also said that no one had asked her to come forward and that many people actually advised her to keep quiet, warning her that Trump would likely deny the claims and brand her a liar, as he has done with others who made claims against him.
She said she encountered Trump by chance while waiting for a car to pick her up in Flushing, Queens, outside the U.S. Open in 1998. She was 27 at the time. Trump had just turned 52.

“He then walked up to me and reached his right arm and grabbed my right arm. Then his hand touched the right inside of my breast. I was in shock. I flinched. ‘Don’t you know who I am. Don’t you know who I am,’ That’s what he said to me. I felt intimidated and I felt powerless,” she said.
“Then my car pulled up and I got in. After I closed the door, my shock turned to shame. I felt ashamed that I was wearing a short dress and high heels. That feeling of shame stayed with me for a while, and it made me disinclined to wear short dresses or high heels,” she said. “For a number of years afterwards, I struggled with what to wear so as to not attract unwanted attention.”
Virginia’s announcement comes a day after the third and final presidential debate between Trump and his Democratic opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
“Today’s victim is also noteworthy in that her allegation demonstrates how Mr. Trump selects his victims at random,” Allred said. “Some of the women, including the woman who is here today, had an encounter with Mr. Trump that appeared to be strictly by chance.”
Allred said Trump can no longer claim that he respects women.

At least 11 women have come forward with allegations of inappropriate touching against Trump.
Allred said Virginia is not considering a lawsuit against the real estate magnate at this time.
Jessica Ditto, the deputy communications director for the Trump campaign, released a statement Thursday afternoon responding to Virginia’s allegation.
“Discredited political operative Gloria Allred, in another coordinated, publicity seeking attack with the Clinton campaign, will stop at nothing to smear Mr. Trump. Give me a break,” she wrote. “Voters are tired of these circus-like antics and reject these fictional stories and the clear efforts to benefit Hillary Clinton.”
Last Friday, Allred held a similar press conference in which she represented former “Apprentice” contestant Summer Zervos, who accused the real estate magnate of groping and forcibly kissing her at the Beverly Hills Hotel in 2007.
Allred also represents dozens of women who have accused comedian Bill Cosby of drugging and sexually assaulting them.

Foreign Affairs / African Leaders Steal $50bn Annually, Says German Parliament by ChineduSamuelB(m): 6:21am On Oct 21, 2016
Andres Lammei, a lawmaker and chairman, Working Group on Africa of the CDU/CSU in the Federal Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany, has said that the legislative arm in Nigeria and other African countries are not duly respected by the executive.
Lammei made this statement yesterday while receiving in audience some select state parliamentarians and parliamentary staff from Nigeria at the Bundestag, Parliamentary Building in Berlin, Germany. He noted his observation and concerns over the ‘$50 billion’ that often disappeared from the treasury of governments across Africa annually, saying that that would always impede development in the county.

The lawmaker, who revealed that he doesn’t envy the African legislature, ‘giving the state of affairs’, also noted that most African embassies in Germany are not doing enough to change the Germans’ perception of the continent; for this reason, he revealed that the team of lawmakers he is in charge of is on a study tour of German parliament, organised by the Konrad Adnauer Stiftung, a German NGO with Country Office in Nigeria.

“Nigeria is on our itinerary next year. We will be paying a visit to the parliament. Africa’s parliaments are not too good; they are not well equipped, their rights are not respected. In fact they are confronted with major bureaucratic bottlenecks by operators in the executive. Government should keep improving on financial resources for an effective parliament. No country in the world is interested in making parliaments work. Honestly, I don’t envy African MPs giving the state of affairs in their countries. We need to raise awareness of opportunities in Africa rather than disasters. Unfortunately, African ambassadors here in Germany are not helping matters. Although, some of them are active and even visit us here in the parliament, quite a large chunk of them are not,” the lawmaker added.

The lawmaker, who said his group was made up of lawmakers with passion for African development, however, lamented that the rate of corruption remained a major challenge to effectively realizing their goals for Africa.
He said;

“It gives me a grave concern, if the number is right as obtained in the press, that $50billion disappears in Nigeria and across Africa annually. The question is, how much does Africa even get as development aid? Many African leaders and politicians invest in other countries. A friend of mine did an album of houses owned by an African in a country. This must stop if the right investments are to come. This is corruption. When I talk to German businessmen about investing in Africa, they often show me the Corruption Index of these countries.

“In Germany, corruption is illegal, as 95% of our businesses are made up mainly of small and medium scale. Families will go and invest only where there is legal security where business is safe,” the lawmaker added.

In closing remarks, KAS Director in Nigeria, Hildegard Behrendt-Kigozi, said the tour was part of efforts being made by the Foundation to help deepen democracy in Nigeria.

According to her, the choice of participants in the programme was informed by the fact that legislature is the centre piece of democratic nation.

Politics / Boko Haram Leader Mocks Nigerian Army, Parents Of Missing Girls by ChineduSamuelB(m): 3:31am On Oct 08, 2016
Boko Haram's embattled leader, Abubakar Shekau, appears in a new video to deny reports of his death and to taunt the parents of the nearly 300 school girls the group kidnapped from their boarding school in 2014.

"To the despot Nigerian government: Die with envy. I'm not dead," Shekau says in the video.
An ISIS flag is visible in the background. That terrorist organization has said it is supporting Shekau's rival, Abu Musab al-Barnawi, as the legitimate leader of the Nigerian ISIS-affiliated terrorist movement.

The video was a response to the Nigerian army's claim that it "fatally wounded" Shekau in a raid August 19. The army dismissed the video Sunday as evidence of Shekau's desperation.
"The video has shown beyond all reasonable doubt the earlier suspicion that the purported factional terrorists' group leader is mentally sick and unstable," the army statement said.

The attack that brought Boko Haram international notoriety was when Shekau's forces captured approximately 300 girls -- between the ages of 16 and 18 -- from a boarding school in the town of Chibok in Borno state in April 2014.
Boko Haram, which opposes western education, wants to set up an Islamic caliphate in Nigeria.
In the video, Shekau teases parents of the Chibok schoolgirls about whether their daughters will be released and insists detained Boko Haram fighters must be released for the return of the schoolgirls.
"There's still a long way to go. There's still more to do by Bring Back Our Girls," says Shekau in the video.
"We don't (bring) back your girls. If you want your girls bring back our brethren. Bring back our brethren."
The kidnapping sparked global outrage and prompted global figures, including activist Malala Yousafzai and US first lady Michelle Obama, to support the campaign to #BringBackOurGirls.

Shekau, however, is still shrouded in mystery. A Boko Haram insider told CNN in August the group had split after new leader al-Barnawi broke with Shekau and left with some followers, a move which the insider said left Shekau with most of the fighters in the Sambisa forest and also in control of the schoolgirls, a powerful bargaining chip for the group.
The army contends Boko Haram is significantly weakened and has been "irrational and unreliable" in negotiations over the schoolgirls.

Foreign Affairs / Russia Backs UN Envoy's Plan To Escort Extremist Fighters Out Of Aleppo -- Repor by ChineduSamuelB(m): 2:01am On Oct 08, 2016
Russia is ready to persuade the Syrian government to agree to a UN proposal to escort rebel fighters out of Aleppo, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told Russian state media.
The proposal to clear the city of fighters with thel Nusra Front, made by UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, was intended as a means to ease hostilities in the besieged city.
"I heard his statement concerning only Nusra. For God's sake, if al-Nusra leaves with weapons toward Idlib, where its main forces are based, we are ready to support this approach for the sake of Aleppo and will be ready to urge the Syrian government to agree," Lavrov said in an interview with Russia's Channel One.
Opposition fighters remaining in Aleppo after the UN special envoy's plan is enacted should be clearly separated from the militant group, he added.

It's unclear exactly how de Mistura's plan would be carried out or whether the Nusra Front -- now known as Jabhat Fatah al Sham -- would sign up to any such deal.
US Secretary of State John Kerry meanwhile blasted Russia and the Syrian regime for what he said was yet another attack on a hospital in Aleppo overnight that killed 20 people and injured 100.
Speaking in Washington on Friday alongside French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault, Kerry said Russia and the Syrian regime "owe the world more than an explanation about why they keep hitting hospitals and medical facilities and children and women."
Those responsible should be held accountable for these actions, Kerry said, saying they were "way beyond -- years beyond -- the accidental."
Kerry said the two would discuss "how best to deliver the strongest message possible" about the "siege of innocent people" in Aleppo.
Ayrault called Aleppo a "human tragedy" and warned that if nothing was done, Aleppo could be destroyed by the end of the year.

Foreign Affairs / US Accuses Russia Of Trying To Interfere With 2016 Election by ChineduSamuelB(m): 1:45am On Oct 08, 2016
The Obama administration said Friday it was "confident" that Russia was behind recent hackings of emails about upcoming US elections in an attempt to interfere with the process.
The announcement marks the first time the US administration has officially accused Russia of hacking into US political systems. Earlier in the week, the two countries broke off formal talks about a ceasefire in Syria.
"We believe, based on the scope and sensitivity of these efforts, that only Russia's senior-most officials could have authorized these activities," the Department of Homeland Security and Office of the Director of National Intelligence said in a joint statement.
"The recent disclosures of alleged hacked emails on sites like DCLeaks.com and WikiLeaks and by the Guccifer 2.0 online persona are consistent with the methods and motivations of Russian-directed efforts," the statement added. "These thefts and disclosures are intended to interfere with the US election process. Such activity is not new to Moscow -- the Russians have used similar tactics and techniques across Europe and Eurasia, for example, to influence public opinion there."
The announcement was referring to the breach of Democratic National Committee emails and the sites of other Democratic Party-linked organizations disclosed over the summer.
Officials told CNN that Friday's announcement follows long deliberations within the Obama administration as to whether and when to take this step. They have had confidence on the assessment for some time, with the only question being whether to go public. Previously law enforcement and intelligence officials had pointed to Russia anonymously, with lawmakers among the few to go on record accusing Moscow of being behind the intrusions.
The collapse of the US-Russian relationship in other areas, such as Syria, played a role as well, removing incentives for the White House to remain silent on the matter.
On Friday, Secretary of State John Kerry went so far as to call for Russian and Syrian military strikes against civilians and medical facilities in Aleppo to be investigated as "war crimes."
In a further sign of the deteriorating US-Russia relationship, the Wall Street Journal reported later in the day that Moscow deployed nuclear-capable missiles in Kaliningrad. The Russian enclave sits next to US allies Lithuania and Poland, further boosting tensions between Russia and Eastern European countries now in the Western fold.
The administration, however, disputes that there was any delay in naming Russia, saying the announcement was made public as soon as the proper evidence to make an official attribution of responsibility was gathered.
"We also worked as quickly as possible to release as much information as possible in order to provide state and local officials sufficient time to fortify their infrastructure," a senior administration official told CNN.
Another senior administration official said that the major focus of making the announcement at this time was an effort to reassure the public that government is on top of the situation, that officials know who carried out the hacking and that the US political system can withstand the attacks.

The joint announcement Friday from the two agencies said the US wasn't yet ready to attribute blame for a series of additional hacks and attempted hacks of voter registration websites in several states.
But US intelligence and law enforcement officials told CNN that there's strong evidence Russian intelligence services are also behind the cyberattacks against state voter registration websites.
There has been debate within the intelligence community about whether to "name and shame" the Russians for the cyberattacks. Some in the FBI and Justice Department felt the evidence was strong enough to point the finger, but others in US intelligence agencies and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence felt it could encourage retaliation or the exposure of US intelligence operations.
Others in the White House worried about the political overtones over naming Russia, fearing it would be seen as an effort to help Democrat Hillary Clinton given the warm exchanges between Republican candidate Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The attack on the Democratic National Committee exposed emails appearing to favor Clinton over opponent Bernie Standards exchanged between senior staffers and the DNC chair, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who was eventually required to step down following their disclosure.
Hackers thought to be working for Russian intelligence have also carried out a series of cyber breaches targeting reporters at The New York Times and other US news organizations.
Democrats on Congress' intelligence committees were ahead of the administration by a few weeks in deciding to publicly point to Moscow, releasing a statement on September 22 that said they had "concluded" that Russian intelligence agencies were responsible for the intrusions.
Trump has voiced skepticism about whether the Russians are to blame for the hacks, saying at a recent debate that it could also be "somebody sitting on their bed that weighs 400 pounds."
The Clinton camp on Friday sought to turn the latest conclusion into a broader attack on Trump's friendly posture toward the country.
"The world now knows, beyond the shadow of any doubt, that the hack of the Democratic National Committee was carried out by the Russian government in a clear attempt to interfere with the integrity of our elections," said John Podesta, Clinton's campaign chair, in a statement. "The only remaining question is why Donald Trump continues to make apologies for the Russians."
Some Republicans on Capitol Hill who have called for a tough stance against the Kremlin applauded the Obama administration decision but pressed for more confrontation.
"We cannot allow such actions to go unanswered," said GOP Rep. Michael McCaul, chair of the House Homeland Security Committee. "Vladimir Putin's regime has crossed a line, and he should know that the United States will not allow our political process or our future to be dictated by foreign adversaries."
"Today was just the first step -- Russia must face serious consequences," said Sen. Ben Sasse, Republican of Nebraska. "The United States must upend Putin's calculus with a strong diplomatic, political, cyber, and economic response."
One Democrat offered a less hawkish response.
Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, called for the US to work with European allies to "develop a concerted response that protects our institutions and deters further meddling."

Crime / 16-year-old Mother Charged With Murder by ChineduSamuelB(m): 1:27am On Oct 08, 2016
A teenager from Omaha, Nebraska has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly throwing her newborn child out of a second story apartment window.

Antonia Lopez, 16, has been charged with one count of felony child abuse resulting in death, and will be tried as an adult. She is currently booked at the Douglas County Youth Center.

According to a police statement obtained by the Omaha World-Herald, Lopez went into premature labor last Friday while alone in her bedroom, and gave birth to the child early that morning. Shortly after, she allegedly threw the 2-pound baby girl out of the window, and at around 3:40 a.m., posted to Facebook, "Who can do me a huge favor and has a car?"

Half an hour later, Lopez confessed to her mother what she’d done. Her mother then called 911 and attempted to find the infant to resuscitate her. After police arrived on the scene, the newborn was rushed to the Creighton University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Police have told multiple sources that an autopsy for the child will not be available for several days. It is unclear at this time if Lopez has retained a lawyer or if she has submitted a plea deal.

Phones / Yahoo Reportedly Scanned Millions Of Email Accounts For Intelligence Agencies by ChineduSamuelB(m): 5:22am On Oct 05, 2016
Yahoo reportedly scanned hundreds of millions of email accounts at the behest of U.S. intelligence or law enforcement. The scans, reported by Reuters, allegedly selected incoming messages that contained a string of unknown characters.

Yahoo did not deny the report, saying only that it is a “law abiding company, and complies with the laws of the United States.”

According to the Tuesday report, Yahoo acceded to a 2015 government directive to give email access to the National Security Agency or the FBI. Reuters cited anonymous sources including two former employees and another person with knowledge of the events.

Yahoo continues to face questions about a breach in 2014 that compromised at least 500 million accounts.
The Department of Justice and the FBI did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Webmasters / Google Doodle Marks 434 Years Of The Gregorian Calendar by ChineduSamuelB(m): 5:13am On Oct 05, 2016
Google Doodle celebrates the 434th anniversary of the Gregorian calendar, which was introduced on Oct. 4, 1582, by Pope Gregory XIII.
The new calendar, introduced during the Renaissance, replaced the Roman Calendar that Julius Caesar had reformed in around 46 B.C. Before Caesar realigned the calendar, a Roman year had been 10 days shorter than a current year, and divided into lunar months. In order to keep the year in tune with the seasons, an extra month would be tacked on occasionally.
Caesar noticed that Egyptians used a calendar based on the sun rather than the moon. So, in consultation with the Alexandrian astronomer Sosigenes, he decided to create his own new system, hoping to solve the problem of the drifting seasons.

Each solar year in Caesar’s calendar became 365 days and six hours long, and the shortest month would get an extra day every four years to account for the annual accumulation of a quarter of a day. He made that first year 445 days long, so that the transition between the old Roman calendar and the new one would work.

However, Caesar’s estimation was http://chinedusamuel..com.ng/2016/10/google-doodle-marks-434-years-gregorian-calendar.html

TV/Movies / Weather Channel Meteorologist Claims Haiti Is Deforestd Becose Children Eat Tree by ChineduSamuelB(m): 4:57am On Oct 05, 2016
Viewers this week expressed outraged at Weather Channel Meteorologist Jen Delgado, who asserted that the deforesting of Haiti could be attributed to hungry children eating the trees.

While reporting on Hurricane Matthew on Monday, Delgado noted that Haiti faced additional risk because the country had fewer trees than the Dominican Republic.

“That’s because this whole area has been essentially deforested,” she explained. “They take all the trees down, the burn the trees. Even the kids there, they’re so hungry, they actually eat the trees.”

Weather Channel CEO David Clark apologized after being contacted by viewer Phedra Remarais.

“We are terribly sorry for an on air error and are taking measures to correct it,” Clark wrote. “It should not have happened period.”
