Etcetera writes again:Nobody should vote in the coming elections. Read the full article below... Some people have accused me of not liking politicians, so let me set the record straight. I don’t! They have done more harm to our nation than the military (their first cousins). At no period in our nationhood has the opportunity for reversing the dehumanising nature of a politically corrupt society like ours been greater. Every Nigerian who seeks freedom should rethink all temptations to rush to the polling station on February 14 in an attempt to further entrench corruption with a transfusion of his or her energies. Let us instead participate in a peaceful revolution to rescue this country from disintegration and death. It is better for any society that has been shredded by corruption to undergo a few headaches, fevers, and stomach upsets in the interim. It is better to rid Nigeria of her sickness once and for all than continue our habit of suppressing the symptoms which is exactly what we’ll be doing voting for the same crop of corrupt politicians in the forthcoming elections. Over the week, I got tons of emails and phone calls in response to last weekend’s article asking if I’ll be voting in the coming elections. No. I won’t be voting. The truth is, I have more constructive things to do than vote on February 14. For example, I am moving into a new apartment and the floors need a good scrub. And there’s this couch I have to take the legs off so I can easily pass it through the door into the living room. To me, that’s time much better spent. Yes guys, I can come up with so many reasons why I won’t vote, but at the core of everything is, when my vote has a direct impact on how much money is stolen from this country, I want nothing to do with it.The ruling party in Nigeria and the opposition have nothing but alphabetical differences. They have the same ideology and mentality. The same people have been jumping from one ship to another. So what “Change” are they preaching about? Show me a Nigerian politician who hasn’t sworn allegiance to “The Broom” of APC and “The Umbrella” of PDP, at different times in their political careers and I will show you a woman that sells paraga that doesn’t bleach. Any Nigerian hoping for a redistribution of wealth after February 14 is wasting his or her time. If I had kids, they won’t see me identifying with this group of sociopaths, and to vote in the next election would be setting a bad example for them. Our votes only give these politicians the needed encouragement to steal more. So on February 14, I’ll be voting for the only one I can trust: nobody. I am of the view that politics has destroyed this country. Let’s not also forget that the same politics has killed thousands of Nigerians in the north alone. So am I supposed to direct my energies into such a destructive system? If I say ‘yes,’ which I would do if I voted, then do my principles have any real meaning to them, or are they simply going to be just amusing ideas to be talked about, debated, or dispersed? I have been very vocal about Nigerian pastors encouraging corruption in the country by associating with politicians and I have received all kinds of insults from their followers. But just this week, Pastor Adeboye called Nigerian politicians liars and never to be trusted again. Only God knows what transpired behind the scene to warrant such sudden outburst from the same man of God who has been blessing corrupt politicians for many years. The truth is, my participating in this circus called election doesn’t make it any better for me or even you. It only makes me another clown in their charade. To simply drop scraps of paper in a box or pull a lever doesn’t mean I have helped in stirring the country back on track. It simply means I have acted like a consumer, picking between prepackaged political items. I haven’t seen a sincere Nigerian politician yet. All we do in every election is picking from the same rotten bunch. If we are not actively participating in deciding what should be, then why can’t we unite and throw rocks through their spider web by sitting at home and refusing to vote? Let us disrupt the existing pattern of corrupt politicking entrenched in the system. Don’t get me wrong. Like everyone else, I want the best for this country. After all, we are all in the same boat and if one end goes down, we all go down. So not voting in February doesn’t mean I won’t vote in the future. When the government makes the system more transparent and my vote counts, I am likely to vote. Those of you who are crazy enough to vote the same set of people into power because you have been paid to do so or you have been stupid enough to listen to a rambling billionaire who tells you it is your civic duty to vote for him or his candidates, you deserve to be screwed by the system. Since democracy in Nigeria has been turned into a game like any other, it will be foolish to go out and play, when I know I can’t win. Source: http:///7ez

APC's gubernatorial candidate in Lagos state Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode was today a guest on a radio show “Eto Oselu” on Bond FM 92.9. The governorship aspirant was on the show to discuss some of his plans for Lagos state.According to him,he is interested in the race because he wants to serve and render selfless services to the masses. “I have served our dear state in different capacities for 27 years, both at the local government level and at Alausa. So, this present intention of mine to run for the post of the Governor of Lagos state is hinged on a desire to use the experience and expertise that I have gathered in my years of service to take our state to the next level”. Responding to questions directed to him by the hosts and also from the listeners around Lagos,he revealed how he intends to diversify the economy, create job opportunities, provide affordable houses, good roads and many more. “I will use my local government experience to empower our Community Development Councils (CDCs) in order to ensure rapid development of all the divisions in our state." “There is also a set plan to create a 1 Billion Naira Lagos Employment Trust Fund for each Local government and Local Community development Area, which will make our youths have financial access to fund their entrepreneurial projects and also become employers of labour. This will solve the unemployment challenge and further broaden our economy”. Speaking further,he urged Lagosians to vote for APC in next month's elections. “Continuity is the best option for Lagos at the moment in order to keep on with the steady progress and development it has enjoyed in the past 15 years of democracy”. Ahead of the presidential election next month, there is a palpable excitement running through every sector of the country, including the entertainment industry, which had until now been relatively apolitical. As some entertainers have made it clear, the stake of the industry in the socio-economic fortunes of the country has risen exponentially and has thus conferred on it as much right as any to be part of the political process. For the highest office in the land, the pendulum seems to be swinging the way of only two candidates for the Aso Villa: President Goodluck Jonathan and General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd). Just as the whole citizenry seems to be torn between the two, the entertainment enclave of Nigeria also has its discordant tunes. From movie stars to music stars to the comedians, there isn’t any consensus of opinion as to who has been endorsed by the entertainers. Their choices are as divergent as many as they are: No one has the right to endorse anyone on behalf of the industry — Bob Manuel-Udokwu Don't listen to those attention seekers who claim they speak for our industry. They have no mandate to endorse any candidate on behalf of the industry. I speak for myself alone on this matter and I believe that’s how it is supposed to be. Having said that, I endorse Goodluck Jonathan to continue as president. He has clear ideas and practical programmes to positively transform Nigeria. He needs more time to actualise his vision for Nigeria but Nigerians want immediate result which is wrong. The result/benefits of most of Jonathan’s programmes today will be seen/felt long after he completes his second term in office. He is the only president of Nigeria to notice the viability of the entertainment industry and takes practical steps to assist the multi-million naira industry which is second largest employer of labour outside the civil service! 16 years is enough for Nigerians to try another political platform — Foluke Daramola Obviously, it is Buhari because I want positive change for my country. I am a progressive by all standard and I believe in a visionary leadership and governance not monetarily and materially inclined one. We all want money, but my husband will always tell me to always seek first the place of integrity and honour and every other thing, like my Bible says, shall be added unto me .Buhari is a man of such integrity and honour and that is why people like me and many other Nigerians of values are rising around this time to support his cause. I believe strongly in a new Nigeria that works for the benefit of all Nigerians now and even our children to come. I believe that 16 years is enough for Nigerians to try another political platform for the urgent change Nigeria deserves. So I have adopted Nigeria for change under the able leadership of General Buhari. Jonathan has done nothing for Nigerians in the last six years — Ronke Ojo I endorse Buhari because Jonathan has not done anything for Nigerians in the last six years. There is spilling of too much blood in his regime and more than anything he is a weak man. No Nigerian President has faced more distractions than Jonathan — Mr Ibu Since His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan assumed office as Commander-in-Chief I have never seen a president that has faced huge distractions as Jonathan yet he has results. All these years, there has been no case of scarcity of petroleum products or unnecessary increment of fuel prices and the South-south quarrels came to an end.The issue of bombing was actually perpetrated by prominent Nigerians probably because they desire power.Look, let us give Jonathan a chance and support him in making sure he finishes his tenure in grand style. He is not going to be there all his life, four years is not too much, let him round off and leave, then anybody who thinks he is better can now come in to do his best. Buhari, because all this massacre has to stop — Ayo Adesanya I want Buhari because I want change. I am so tired of the state of the nation; the stagnation is disheartening, especially the faith of kids in the north. The female suicide bombers I believe are the Chibok girls. I am so tired of seeing the Boko Haram mayhem everyday. All this massacre has got to stop, I believe Buhari can bring about the much needed change. Jonathan must continue the transformation agenda– Mosun Filani I have endorsed Jonathan for second term, principally for him to continue the transformation agenda he has started. It does not make sense truncating all these laudable programmes just on the share sentiment of wanting a northerner to become the president.Nigeria is faced with multi-faceted problems and challenges and it requires a man who is in touch with realities of modern times to tackle it. How would you expect a man who is not computer literate or abreast with the global technological advancement to tackle the present modern challenges? He will definitely take Nigeria back fifty years if such a person becomes president. Source: http:///7dq

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State says the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party at the federal level has reduced Nigeria to a laughing stock in the comity of nations with its ineptitude to provide basic amenities and fight insurgency. Speaking at two mega rallies of the All Progressives Congress held at Auchi in Edo North and Irrua in Edo Central, weekend, Oshiomhole said when the PDP took the reins of governance in 1999, the country had 774 Local Government areas, but as we speak, close to thirty of those local government areas are being controlled by insurgents. According to him, it is time to ask yourselves; in 16 years of PDP leadership, what has PDP government produced? For 16 years, they gave us darkness. No light, yet they keep bringing bills. They produced unemployment; our companies have all closed down. If the Federal Government does not have good industrial policy, unemployment will continue to be here. So PDP brought unemployment. PDP government brought kidnapping to our country. There was no single case of kidnapping before 1999, PDP brought kidnapping. “The most worrisome of them all is that in 1999, PDP Government was handed 774 Local Government Areas and as we speak now, Boko Haram controls about 30 Local Government Areas and if they continue to rule, they will get here. We have the best soldiers in the world, they go to other countries for peace keeping. How come they now say our soldiers are now running from common insurgents? For 16 years, they have not equipped our military. While urging the people to vote en masse for the APC, Oshiomhole said: “I can give you 100 reasons why we must vote Buhari. It is for our own survival. It goes beyond tribal sentiments. PDP has failed Nigeria. They have reduced Nigeria to a joke. They have shared our companies to themselves. They extorted our unemployed graduates all in the name of scam recruitment exercise. You cannot continue to vote for a party that has lost every sense of responsibility and reduced our country to a huge joke even within the African Continent. “This coming election will be a decisive one. We have a Presidential Candidate that has courage; a Presidential candidate that will fight corruption and you will be counting the casualties. He will not be like those who say they are fighting corruption and nobody is falling. “General Buhari was a Military Governor and later served as Minister of Petroleum before becoming the Military Head of State and despite having held all these positions, he never amassed public funds to himself to become rich. He is the kind of man Nigerians needs. A man that will fight corruption, instill discipline and ensure that the poor are not cheated.” He said, “Buhari built Kaduna and Warri refineries. How can they say all our refineries are good and yet we are importing products and because we are importing, that is why petrol and kerosene price have refused to reduce. If our refineries are not working, where will those our children studying Electrical,Petroleum, Chemical and Mechanical Engineering work after graduation? If PDP could not do refinery in 16 years, do you want to give them another chance to fail? That is why Nigeria needs General Buhari.” Source: http:///coc |
