Kano state government has declared Tuesday, October 4 as a public holiday to mark the beginning of the new Islamic calendar 1438 A.H. The Islamic New Year is on the first day of Muharram, the first month in the lunar Islamic calendar. The state government had on Friday organised a prayer session at the Government House Mosque in Kano, to usher in the new Islamic year, which coincided with activities marking the nation’s 56th anniversary celebration. In the same vein, the state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, accompanied by top government officials, visited some hospitals in the state capital to show sympathy with the sick and to prayer for their speedy recuperation, in line with Islamic etiquette. Governor Ganduje urges Muslims to use the period of the holiday, especially the blessed days of the 9th and 10th of the month of Muharram to ease the socio-economic challenges facing the country and to strengthen our leaders to steer it to greater heights. Following several reports that Twitter is on the brink of being sold, the company’s stocks increased up to 21 percent on Friday. According to CNBC, potential buyers like Salesforce, Google, Verizon and other top tech companies are interested in the data that is generated by the company’s active users. So far, this year has been a turbulent one for Twitter with 30 percent drop in stocks. Experts observed that it is due to a decline in user growth and weak ad revenue in the last two years. Most advertisers now prefer Facebook and a great number of people find it difficult to use Twitter. Some industry analysts observed that Salesforce will be the best fit if it eventually acquires the company. Even though Google or Salesforce is yet to release any official statement up to this moment, Salesforce’s chief digital evangelist, Vala Afshar made known his opinion about Twitter in a tweet. Read his Tweet below:- Why @twitter?The company has been struggling to meet up with newer social media sites since Jack Dorsey became the CEO two years ago. In a recent move, social videos were introduced as a result of deals like the National Football League games on Thursday nights which has a slight positive effect to its previous state. Obasanjo exited the PDP in 2015 when he permitted a loyalist to tear his membership card. Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo (Punch) Former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has said that the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would have been speedily resolved if former president, Olusegun Obasanjo was still a member of the party. Obasanjo publicly and dramatically announced his exit from the PDP in February 2015 when he permitted a loyalist to tear his membership card to shreds. Daniel made the comment during a recent radio interview in Abeokuta, the state capital. “It is not only the PDP that has crisis, the APC also has its own share of crisis. The only difference is that while, we in the PDP have not been able to manage our own, the APC has been able to manage their own,” Daniel said according to Vanguard. “If it were the time President Olusegun Obasanjo was still in the party, we would have gone to him and one way or the other, he would have resolved the crisis. Currently, there are many local champions in the party. The party does no longer have a spirit,” he added. Daniel recently revealed that the PDP had offered to sell him a senatorial slot in 2015.
