South African athlete Oscar Pistorius, who faces murder charges over the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, has been granted bail after a lengthy hearing. The Paralympic sprinter denies murder, saying he shot Reeva Steenkamp thinking she was an intruder at his home. The prosecution had argued that bail should be refused because there was a risk Mr Pistorius, 26, would abscond. Magistrate Desmond Nair said the state had not made a case that he would flee, or that he had a violent character. The magistrate said that Mr Pistorius had "reached out to meet the state's case" at an early stage. Mr Nair took almost two hours to deliver his judgement. He criticised the testimony of lead detective Hilton Botha, saying he had not followed up important leads and had changed his testimony. But he also said he had difficulty understanding why Mr Pistorius would have opened fire without seeking to find out who was in the bathroom. Ms Steenkamp, 29, was a model and law graduate with a burgeoning television career. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-21548865 |
Mali captain Seydou Keita on Monday hit back at those who say his side will face an uphill battle against Nigeria on Wednesday in the semi-finals because the Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has a good knowledge of the team having managed it for two years. The former Barcelona midfielder said the outfit had changed since the Nigerian coach left in the wake of their debacle at the Angola 2010, and may have lost all the secrets of the team. “People keep saying that Nigeria will beat us on Wednesday because their coach Stephen Keshi knows the in and out of Mali team having coached us in the past, but that is not true,” Keita said. “We’ve had three coaches after Keshi’s departure and that should tell you a lot of transformation has taken place. Keshi, with all the respect I have for him, will meet a different team on Wednesday and not what he left behind. So tell him we have changed.” The Malian Eagles finished third at the 2012 edition under French coach Alain Giresse, and brought their peculiarity of knocking out host nations to the ongoing tournament where they defeated South Africa on penalties like they did to Gabon last year. The 33-year-old, who now plays for Chinese side Dalian Aerbin, believes they could have an edge if Wednesday’s clash runs into penalties. http://news.naij.com/22757.htm |
Two players of the Nigerian men’s Under-17 national team, the Golden Eaglets, have been confirmed to have been involved in a ghastly motor accident on Sunday. Goalkeeper Adamu Abubakar and Friday Njengo were confirmed to have been involved in the car crash while on their way to the team’s camp in Calabar. The team’s head coach, Manu Garba, has been in touch with the affected players, now receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo. Abubakar is said to have suffered injuries to his head and shoulder while Njengo’s condition is believed to be bad and “will undergo x-ray,” according to coach Garba. The Golden Eaglets’ coach lamented that it is unfortunate the accident happened at a time the youngsters were bracing up to serve their fatherland. “I called them at Federal Medical Centre and the doctor said Friday (Njengo) will undergo x-ray to determine the extent of injuries but he is still unconscious,” confirmed Garba. It has also been confirmed that the accident occurred at Dan Anacha Village in Taraba State as the players travelled from Jalingo via a commercial bus. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been informed of the incident and its president, Aminu Maigari, who is in South Africa for the Africa Cup of Nations, is said to have directed that two officials from the federation travel to Jalingo to see the players. The training camp of the Nigerian Under-17 team at the Princeville Hotel inCalabar commenced as scheduled with almost 28 out of the 30 players invited reporting to camp except for the duo of Abubakar and Njengo. http://news.naij.com/22783.html |

It is still realty that so many buildings in Lagos still carry dual house numbers, while some streets/roads are not properly numerated many months after the house numbering project kicked off. LASAA is coming to your area. LASAA is coming to your area.. LASAA is coming to your area... When will they arrive? Please can anyone tell us if they have left their offices and when will they arrive? becos it is on on bill boards, BRT bus and their staff buses i see them. 2years after take off, and they are still on their way. |
Dear moderator, this topic deserves to be on front page, as many lagosian continually fall prey to this antics of enforcement officers. |
Purpose before partner |
It baffles me and so many other Nigerians at how issues that pertains to Drivers license are treated by the Vehicle Inspectorate office and the Federal road safety corp. The so-many Uniformed units (identified and unidentified)on the roads of Lagos have created immense fear in the hearts of Lagosian, to the extent that people drive so scared, not knowing which SIN (requiring a huge penalty) they have committed or about to commit, by just mounting the drivers seat of their vehicle or just moving the vehicle out of their compounds. Why should the licenses issued by the FRSC be termed 'Suspected Forged' by the VIO ? Just recently, records show that the officers of the VIO have detained the vehicles of different persons whose driver's licenses were issued by the FRSC. Is it the job function of the VIO to check driver's license of vehicle users? Who issues original Drivers license? These and many more questions needs urgent answers before the hardship inflicted by these so many uniformed crew gets out of hand. |
GOD TO ME THIS IS THE MOST JOBLESS AND MOST ANNOYING THING I HAVE EVER HEARD FROM THIS ANNOYING ACN GORVNMMENT WHAT RUUBISH ARE THIS THE MOST IMMIDAITE THINGS OFF THE GOVERNOR SLEEVESI think the next law(Noise pollution) from the state govt, should be that conductors should stop shouting at bus parks, as churches and mosques have also been giving an ultimatum not constitute nuisance noise-wise. ![]() |
Who are they trying to deceive. Nigerians are not fools. This are mere propangada. Bakassi is gone and gone for good. Afterall, the deadline for re-visiting the case has expired since they decided not to press charges. So the senate president should just admit that Nigeria is a failed nation with a failed government rather than bombard us with hopeless hope.
I thought the dead line for appeal was october 10th 2012. Which kind package be dis nah? |
All i see here is the fear of allowing the IGBOs go. I think these set of people are too relevant, that is WHY NIGERIA IS SO SCARED to allow them freedom. |
It is quite unfortunate that many people still expect to see Pastors in tattered dress, and cherish the the feelings that they are the one feeding pastors and his family.Gbam.. ![]() |
