The Consular Section of the Iranian Embassy in the Syrian capital of Damascus has come under a missile attack, with immediate reports of casualties as a result of the act of aggression.

Syria's official news agency, SANA, said the strikes were carried out by “the Israeli enemy” and targeted the Mezzeh neighborhood in Damascus on Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad has visited Iran's Embassy following the missile attack.

Condemning the Israeli aggression, Mekdad said, “The Israeli occupation entity will not be able to influence the relations between Iran and Syria.”

“At approximately 00:17 p.m. today, the Israeli enemy launched an air aggression from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting the Iranian consulate building in Damascus,” SANA said, citing a military source as saying.

“Our air defense media responded to the aggression’s missiles and shot down some of them. The aggression led to the destruction of the entire building and the martyrdom and injury of everyone inside, and work is underway to recover the bodies.”

SANA, citing one of its correspondents, said the Israeli aggression also caused major destruction to "neighboring buildings."

Iran's Ambassador to Damascus Hossein Akbari confirmed the reports of the Israeli attack and said the regime had targeted the consular building with six missiles.

Akbari said seven people were martyred in the Israeli aggression but the names and the exact number of martyrs have yet to be specified.

“This regime has no respect for international laws,” he added. “We will support the resistant nation [of Palestine] and have no fear of the criminality of this regime.”

A commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in Syria and Lebanon has been martyred in an Israeli attack on the Consular Section of the Iranian Embassy in the Syrian capital of Damascus.

Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and his deputy, Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, were killed in the Israeli attack on Monday.

The two countries’ foreign ministers have discussed increased cooperation in energy and agriculture

Russia and Nigeria have discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation in energy and agriculture, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced during a press conference on Wednesday.

Lavrov noted that Russian-Nigerian ties continue to develop following talks with Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar.

“This concerns all spheres of our relations, primarily the trade and economic component. Among the most promising directions, we have identified cooperation in energy, infrastructure construction, agriculture, healthcare, and education,” Lavrov said.

He added that the parties agreed to increase attention to these spheres, to “intensify the work of the intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, and scientific-technical cooperation and utilize the opportunities of the Russia-Nigeria Business Council.” the diplomat also pointed out that Abuja is “a priority partner” on the African continent for Moscow.

Nigeria Foreign Minister Tuggar arrived in Russia on Tuesday and will spend three days in Moscow. He stated that Nigeria’s president, Bola Tinubu, also plans to visit Russia in the near future, and Abuja “will participate at both ministerial and presidential levels in all future meetings.”

Earlier, Lavrov said that Moscow will soon send out invitations for the meeting of foreign ministers planned for the autumn in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

A Nigerian delegation also visited Russia in July 2023 for the second Russia-Africa summit, held in St. Petersburg.

The United States and Britain attack Ansarullah targets across Yemen in response to the Yemeni popular resistance movement's strikes on vessels linked to the Israeli regime, which has brought the Gaza Strip under a genocidal war.

Several American media outlets reported the attacks on Thursday, saying they involved warplanes and Tomahawk missiles.

Ansarullah said the attacks targeted the capital city of Sana'a as well as the western cities of al-Hudaydah, Sa'ada, and Dhamar, blaming "American aggression with British participation."

US President Joe Biden confirmed the assaults, saying they were conducted by the United States and Britain, with support from Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands.

Biden said he would "not hesitate" to direct further measures against Yemeni targets.

During recent months, Ansarullah and Yemeni Armed Forces have been staging missile and drone strikes against vessels linked to the Israeli regime or those heading to Israeli ports in support of war-hit Palestinians in Gaza.

Also on Thursday, Ansarullah's leader, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, warned of a "big" response to the United States and its allies if they proceeded with any military attack against his country.

Any American attack will not remain without a response. The response will be greater than the attack that was carried out with twenty drones and a number of missiles," he said.

Houthi, however, made clear all other ships except for those bound for the occupied Palestinian territories were safe from Yemeni strikes as long as their countries were not part of or did not plan to join the US-led anti-Yemen coalition.
