Sports / Jose Fernandez Dies In Boating Accident, Leaves Unborn Child Behind. by Cletusjnr1993: 10:12pm On Sep 25, 2016
Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez was killed in a boating accident early Sunday morning in Florida, the Marlins confirmed.

The Marlins' game against the Atlanta Braves scheduled for Sunday afternoon has been canceled.

Fernandez, the 24-year-old right-hander whose vibrant personality endeared himself to fans as much as his dominant fastball, was a Cuban-born pitcher who grew up in Tampa and was drafted 11th overall by the Marlins in 2011. He overcame Tommy John surgery in 2014 and returned to dominant form this season, winning 16 games, striking out 253 batters and earning an All-Star Game berths.

Fernandez was killed as a result of the impact of the crash, and did not drown, Lorenzo Veloz, an official with the Florida Wildlife Commission, confirmed to USA TODAY Sports. The boat carrying Fernandez and two others was traveling at a significant speed when it struck rocks.

A Coast Guard crew left the Miami station for a law enforcement patrol when it found the 32-foot boat overturned on a jetty around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, said Chief Nyxolyno Cangemi.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will lead the investigation, Cangemi said.

Veloz said the three victims were between 24 and 27 years old. He said alcohol is not believed to be a factor and no illicit drugs were found at the scene.

Fernandez on Tuesday posted a photo on Instagram of his girlfriend, Carla Mendoza, who was pregnant with their child.

Known for his ebullient personality - which could occasionally rankle opponents - and a pitch repertoire that could stagger opponents with both his fastball and a devastating curve, Fernandez was the backbone of the Marlins pitching staff, posting a 2.86 earned-run average. He struck out at least 11 batters in nine of his 29 starts this season.

In the final start of his career, Wednesday night against the Washington Nationals, Fernandez shut out the Washington Nationals over eight innings, striking out 12 in a 1-0 victory. Marlins infielder Martin Prado said Fernandez told teammates he believed it was the greatest start of his career.

What are CPM ads?

CPM (Cost per Thousand Impressions) based ads are a reliable and great way to make money with your blog. CPM advertising pays you for every thousand potential customers that view ads on your blog. CPM is an initialism for Cost per mile, with mile beign Latin for thousand.

An “impression” means the display of an ad to a user while viewing a web page. A single web page may contain multiple ads. In such cases, a single pageview would result in one impression for each ad displayed. Therefore, the higher your pageviews, the more ad impressions, the more money you make.

Therefore, to make more conversion from CPM networks, place ads in prominent positions in your blog or website.

CPM ads may not be as rewarding as most CPC ad networks especially Adsense, but they work best for bloggers with high traffic. With traffic volume of about a thousand plus daily one can make cool money with CPM ads.

Religion / Graphic Photos: Muslim Students Butchered A Christian Student Over Blasphemy by Cletusjnr1993: 12:36am On Aug 27, 2016
UPDATE FROM NIFES SOKOTO AREA

At the Abdu Gusau Polythecnic, Talata Mafara, Zamfara state, on Sunday 21st of August 2016, a Christian student was accused of blasphemy by the Muslim students. He was then beaten almost to the point of death. By divine intervention, the NIFES patron was able to rush him to the hospital through the help of another Muslim who volunteered with his car.

On Monday morning a mob gathered and insisted the Christian student must be killed. They moved round the school, burnt down the Christian fellowship secretariats. Then proceeded to town, destroying churches and threatening to kill any Christian that will ever return to Talata Mafara.

We are currently in touch with NIFES students and the patron, whose life is particularly threatened and yet to reunite with his family members as they've all fled to another village for safety.

Kindly pray that God will keep us safe as we minister in this Muslim dominated area, and the church be united in Jesus name.

Arsenal have been told that the structure of their£16.9million bid for Lucas Perez is 'unacceptable'.

Arsenal want to pay the 27-year-old striker's buyout clause in two instalments but his club Deportivo want the fee in one payment.

The impasse will give Everton hope in their pursuit of the player but it is understood Lucas's preference is to join Arsenal owing to the prospect of playing Champions League football.

Sports / See Country To Host 2018 Olympics And Beyond by Cletusjnr1993: 3:58am On Aug 22, 2016
The Rio Games are just wrapping up but it’s never too early to think about where the world will be turning its attention to next, especially since there are less than 18 months until the cauldron is lit in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

The 2018 Games will return to East Asia for the first time since 2008, setting in motion a string of three-straight competitions in the region. Here’s a rundown of the upcoming Olympic locations and how those cities captured hosting rights for the international event.

2018 Winter Olympics: Pyeongchang, South Korea

Following two failed attempts to host the 2010 and 2014 Games, Pyeongchang finally secured South Korea’s first Winter Olympics in history. Seoul previously hosted the Summer Games in 1988.

Pyeongchang was selected as host city in 2011, earning the nod over Munich and Annecy, France, to win the nomination. Preparations are well underway – South Korea broke ground on a high-speed train line from Seoul to Pyeongchang right before the 2012 London Games. The 2013 Special Olympics were also hosted in the city.

With a similar name to Pyongyang – the capital of North Korea – Olympic organizers decided to brand the Games as “PyeongChang 2018” with a capital letter to further distinguish the host city.

2020 Summer Olympics: Tokyo

Tokyo will become the fifth city to host the Summer Games for a second time, with a 56-year gap between 1964 and 2020. The Japanese capital was chosen over Istanbul and Madrid in 2013.

The National Olympic Stadium, built in 1954, was demolished last year – originally in preparation for the 2019 Rugby World Cup and the Olympics. With a delayed timetable, however, the $1 billion project has been pushed back and won’t be ready until after the Rugby World Cup. The venue will seat over 60,000 people for the Games.

2022 Winter Olympics: Beijing

What seemed to be a sure hosting win for Oslo, Norway, took an unexpected turn back in 2014 when the city withdrew its bid because of cost concerns. A year later and Beijing emerged as the narrow victor, edging Almaty, Kazakhstan, by four votes.

The 2022 Games – the third Olympics in a row that will be hosted in East Asia – will be the first winter edition in China. There will be three clusters for competition: Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou. Travel time from Beijing to Zhangjiakou – a longer trip than to Yanqing – is estimated to take 50 minutes on a new high-speed railway that will allow trains to travel at up to 217 mph.

Beijing most recently hosted the 2008 Summer Olympics, spending $44 billion. The estimated budget of the 2022 Games is $3.9 billion.

2024 Summer Olympics: Budapest, Los Angeles, Paris, or Rome

There’s still an entire year before the 2024 Games are awarded to a host city at the 130th International Olympic Committee Session in September 2017. The bidding process is well underway, though, and the finalists have been winnowed down to four.

Budapest, Hungary, has lost five bids to host the Games in its history, and it appears to be lagging behind the other three cities with greater Olympic resumes. Paris would be looking to host for the first time since 1924, Rome since 1960 and Los Angeles since 1984.

2026 Winter Olympics: TBD

A decade away, plans for the 2026 Games are still up in the air. The organizing city will be selected in 2019, but there are a number of early signs pointing to the possibility of a European host. Options include Austria, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Switzerland, among others.

Sports / Ethiopian Marathoner Makes Protest Gesture At Finish Line by Cletusjnr1993: 3:49am On Aug 22, 2016
Feyisa Lilesa of Ethiopia may have turned himself into a political exile because of the way he won a silver medal in the Olympics marathon on Sunday.
He strode across the finish line with his arms crossed over his head in a sign of solidarity for the Oromo people, his native group and the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia. He repeated the sign at a press conference.
In an interview after the race, Lilesa said he wanted to draw attention to the government's ongoing persecution of the Oromos.

By speaking out, he said, he put himself into such danger that he can't go home.

"I really think that I would be killed," he said -- or imprisoned. Some of his family members are already in prison, he said, and he worries about the safety of his wife and two children.

Lilesa said he may stay in Brazil or go to Kenya or the United States, depending on whether he can obtain a visa for those moves. It's unclear if his gesture with the arms will affect his medal. In the past, the Olympics committee has stripped athletes of their medals for political protests, as when American sprinters Tommie Smith and John Carlos gave the black power salute on the medal stand at the 1968 games. The Oromo make up at least a third of Ethiopia's 100 million people. But they have been marginalized for decades, with tensions rising recently as the government promoted development that took over over Oromo farmland.

Huge protests by the Oromos have swept the streets of Ethiopia.
The government was brutal in putting down the demonstrations, nonprofit groups like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch reported.

"In nine months, more than 1,000 people have been killed," Lilesa said on Sunday.

CNN could not immediately confirm this statement. Human Rights Watch said that since November, more than 400 people have been killed and tens of thousands arrested. Thousands more have been jailed.
"Human Rights Watch's research indicates that security forces repeatedly used lethal force, including live ammunition, to break up many of the 500 reported protests that have occurred since November 2015," the group reported on its website.

In a report on the Oromos, Amnesty International said at least 5,000 Oromos were arrested because of peaceful protests or opposition to the government between 2011 and 2014.
Lilesa won silver on Sunday with a time of 2:09:54, finishing behind liud Kipchoge of Kenya. He finished with a time of 2:08:44.

Literature / Chinua Achebe Wasn't Exposed When He Wrote “things Fall Apart” The Book Should B by Cletusjnr1993: 6:00pm On Aug 20, 2016
The Nigerian writer and budding film-maker, Onyeka Nwelue, made the declaration in a recent interview with PremiumTimes. When asked about the late novelist, Chinua Achebe, he said: "I think Things Fall Apart should be buried and never made to resurrect.

Yes, Anthills of the Savannah is a very beautiful book; it’s well written. But I don’t agree with Things Fall Apart being called the great African novel by everybody. There are better books. .

If you’ve read Things Fall Apart and have read what young people write these days – people like Helen Oyeyemi, Diekoye Oyeyinka and Chigoize Obioma – you would know that Achebe’s writing of Things Fall Apart at that age was not intelligent; he was not exposed."
