WNTV was the first TV station in all of Africa, starting in 1959 (Egypt did not start until 1960). From what I remember transmissions were only from 6pm until 10pm and were almost entirely of American programs but with many locally produced adverts about road safety which were both highly entertaining but also forceful in their message. I have failed to find any examples of these on the Internet. An interesting point is that the WNTV logo included "First in Africa", but when ENTV started in 1960 their logo included "Second to none". |
