They should give these people Biafra and let's see what will come out of it. Igbos are the most deceitful people on earth. Go to where they do businesses and see how deceitful an average Igbo man is. Buy something from them and you stand the chance of buying a fake or over priced goods if you no shine your eye well. You all keep shouting "Biafria" but fail to hold your senators, HOA members, governors accountable for the underdevelopment of your place. One of the governors was asked what he has done for his State since he became a governor. The governor's answer was worse than what a pupil would have answered. How can you say you brought Dominos pizza, and whatever to the State and call that development! You people should learn to hold your leaders accountable first before shouting foul everytime. I wonder how disorganized and chaotic Biafra would be if it eventualy comes into existence. Igbos are forcing other tribes into joining them but they shout "let us go" everything the North refuse to grant them their wish. This simply tells you what they would do to minority if they ever get their wish granted.
.,...it's very obvious you have not visited Southeast....the area is more developed than you think

I love Nigeria and want Nigeria be a great nation but it won't happen if our sense of reasoning is clouded by sentiments. Ask any experienced stock trader, he will tell you that continuing to hold on to a dead stock is never a good idea. Ajaokuta was a bad investment, Nigeria should count their losses and move on.
.......vry good....but before you conclude on Ajaokuta steel, kindly find time and visit the steel complex so that you can see for yourself............. bros ur mentality towards the gigantic steel plant will reconfigure itself automatically...... yes just a visit

What political will are you talking about? Does it take political will for investors to identify a good investment opportunity? For your information, if Ajaokuta was to be a deal, they will come for it either by fire or force and there is nothing anybody in Nigeria can do to stop them. They will use the carrot or stick approach, one of which Nigeria must accept. For asking if I expect Russia to use their money, is the concept of direct foreign investment new to you?
So that you know, there is something suspicious about what the Indian company you referred to did. People suspect that they made their billions by salvaging (in other words vandalizing) some few functional equipment from the facility. But this is an issue for another discussion.

So stop being judgmental, and approach the issue with clear mind. Your take home from this discussion should be that Ajaokuta is like a shattered bottle which can never be mended. No offense.
........pls what do you stand to gain if Ajaokuta is abandoned as you are seriously suggesting?

I agree with you that we need local and preferably indigenously owned steel foundaries to give our manufacturing sector a jolt of life but frankly speaking, ajaokuta and aladja as they exist today, are not the answers as not only will the government need to protect them from competition, they'll also need to subsidize their operations, raw materials and finished products, and we are not buoyant enough an economy to be able to afford that at this point in time and in the nearest foreseeable future, so ppp new foundaries are our solution and the earlier we put effort into that, the better
.....Y re u fighting against revamping Ajaokuta steel?.... what do u stand to gain?.....is Nigerian govt begging you for money?........u seem embittered at d thought of making Nigeria great........U MUST BE A CHINESE

It doesn't surprise me that every year when Waec releases exam results, English( comprehension) and math( critical thinking) are the most failed subjects.

Majority of NL commentators are my proof that English ( comprehension) and mathematics ( critical thinking) are skills our schools are woefully failing to teach.

Take for example, this silly thread and the headlines.

Anyone with a little common sense would read it and understand it for what it actually is: A poor piece of bad belle pretending to be journalism.

Let's address the issues put forward by this op.

The man in question, Mohamed Sanusi. Who is he , and what is his interest in Ajeokuta Steel ?

For those too young to know, I have been hearing of Ajeokuta Steel since the early 80s. It was supposed to be the engine for Nigerias industrialization.

But after, Shagari, BuHRI, Babangida, Abacha, Abdusalami, Obasanjo again, Yaradua and Billions of Dollars in IMF, World Bank, ADB loans as well as billions of Naira of Nigeria's oil Wealth, Ajeokuta Steel is on record as the biggest waste of money in human history.

It should interest you ignorant folks to know that a good sizable portion of Nigeria's external debt, the one that NOI and OBJ successfully negotiated to be written off, were loans taken for Ajeokuta Steel.
Selective amnesia, perhaps?

Now, during the tenure of Jonathan, the vultures were circling again, trying to convince GEJ and NOI to borrow even more billions of dollars to sink into that shithole.

She assembled a team to do the required due diligence.
The team of experts reported their findings that Ajeokuta Steel, unviable for more than 30yrs, did not qualify for more IMF and World Bank loans that would further encumber our economy for years to come.
It was as simple as that.

Anyone who cannot see this prudent action of the former finance minister is either among the vultures of Ajeokuta Steel or lacks the common sense and critical thinking skills to understand the issues.

Hold your peace.
.....wow!.....your English is good....... but u re seriously on the payroll of those Chinese that are using our great country as their dumping ground...... go n read abt d steel company in India.......its working ,therefore Ajaokuta steel must work for Nigeria n africa

Where is the infrastructure to run a steel company? Do you want to run a steel company with hydro power and compete with countries like China and Russia who are using cheap nuclear power? The truth is that while Nigeria was sleeping, other countries concentrated on capacity building. For those who do know, the world is presently swimming in steel. There is no way Nigerian steel produced with hydo-electric power will sell at international market price. Steel production is highly dependent on energy and Nigeria energy is not cheap.

Another point to consider is the facility itself. In this age of automation, the equipment are outdated and would be a burden on final cost of production.

The solution is a total new facility and not with what is on ground. Painful but true.
........wat do u know about power plant n steel?.....Ajaokuta steel has its own power plant dat can feed d steel plant, its estates n even ur state as a whole......if u go to ajaokuta steel, u will cry blood for urself n country

For nearly forty years, Ajaokuta mill was started and never completed. Iwealla was there as Minister only during OBJ and GEJ admins. So why was the mill not completed by the Russians as scheduled before OBJ admin? Have you seen any industry undergoing construction for forty years?
Lol. Perhaps President Bubu shall continue the mistakes of others now - pour money into the bottomless pit of Ajaokuta, nothing is impossible under Bubu.

Many steel companies all over the world are closing down rapidly because of over-supply glut in the market
.........you surely do not want Nigeria's progress......enemy!......
