BENI Democratic Republic of Congo (Reuters) - A crowd stoned to death a young man in northeast Congo on Friday before burning and eating his corpse, witnesses said, in apparent revenge for a series of attacks by Ugandan rebels. The incident in the town of Beni followed a number of overnight raids in the area blamed on the Islamist group ADF-NAUL, who are thought to have massacred more than 100 people this month, using hatchets and machetes to kill their victims. Witnesses said the man, who has not been identified, aroused suspicion on a bus when passengers discovered he could not speak the local Swahili language and that he was carrying a machete. Speaking from the town of Beni, Congo's President Joseph Kabila said the ADF-NALU militants would face the same fate as the rebel movement M23, which was defeated by a U.N.-backed government offensive last year. "There is no question of negotiation with the terrorists," Kabila said in a speech at a local hotel. "They will be defeated as was the case with the M23. And it will be very soon." ADF-NALU is an alliance of groups opposed to the Ugandan government that has operated from bases in neighboring Congo since the mid-2000s, undermining Kinshasa's grip on the area. The movement was blamed for the deaths of 14 people, killed early on Thursday in the village of Kampi ya Chui, bringing the total death toll this month to at least 107, said Teddy Kataliko, president of the Civil Society of Beni. Tensions ran high in the town on Friday morning with around 100 demonstrators blocking the road from the airport into town, throwing stones and waving machetes to demand greater government protection against the rebels. Local government officials could not immediately be reached for comment. Earlier in the week, the government sought to downplay the threat posed by the group, which it had previously said was defeated in an operation earlier this year. Estimates of its strength vary greatly, but the website of the U.N.'s peacekeeping mission in Congo estimates it has around 500 fighters. The Ugandan government has said ADF-NALU is allied with Somalia's al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab movement, but analysts say the nature of these ties is not clear, despite the ADF-NALU's clear Islamist ideology. In his speech on Friday, Kabila appealed for public support for a ramping up of its offensive against the group, but did not specify what that would entail. "I call on the population to support the army because the victory against the M23 was because the population was behind the army," he said. "I call on young people to join the army in great numbers." Kabila also defended the U.N. peacekeeping mission known as MONUSCO following criticism from locals that it had failed to defend them and had even collaborated with ADF-NALU. Crowds of mainly young men attacked several peacekeeping facilities with stones and bows and arrows last week, forcing the evacuation of some staff. The U.N. mission says it has stepped up patrols in the area in the wake of the massacres. http://news.yahoo.com/congo-crowd-kills-man-eats-him-militant-massacres-160235263.html?soc_src=copy |

Born to the family of late Bright and Celine Anokwuru, Obinna’s father was once the national auditor of the Nigeria Labour Congress, where he served together with the current governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole. “We urgently need the help of kind-hearted people to assist us with the cost of sending him abroad for the kidney transplant, which has been estimated at N8m, excluding the amount we will give to the kidney donor. We will not take any kind gesture for granted. Please come to our aid before my brother dies,” Udemba pleaded. Obinna and his sister, Lorretta Udemba, could be reached on 08029002341, 08033026271, and 07033462302. His account details are also as follows: Name: Anokwuru Victor Obinna; Account numbers: GT BANK (0116983382) or ECOBANK (2951027692). http://www.punchng.com/news/man-needs-n8m-for-kidney-transplant/ Anokwuru before the illness

Obinna Anokwuru would have loved to celebrate his 35th birthday partying with family and friends on October 23, 2014, but the young man’s fate did not afford him such pleasure. In fact, only a few of his friends and family could wish him happy birthday: they seem not to have the emotional strength to wish him one. In 2012 when Anokwuru was feeling unusually weak and dizzy, he had no idea of the pain ahead. Handsome and well-built, some of the female friends that once admired him had since stopped calling him. The feeling of love for him has now turned to that of sympathy – how emotions can quickly fade! After proper diagnosis by medical experts, it was discovered that one of his kidneys had failed. And since then, the once smiles-beaming face of the bachelor has shrunk. Sitting down on a couch in his apartment with a protruded belly, it seems like his world is crashing right in his face. His business is gone already; and he is afraid his life may be gone also if he is unable to raise the fund for a kidney transplant in an Indian hospital. The Edo State indigene told Saturday PUNCH, “Two years ago, I came home unusually feeling dizzy and weak. I thought it was malaria or probably fatigue. When it was getting worse, I went for a medical checkup and there I got the most unexpected news about me. “Doctors said I had kidney failure. I was shedding tears because I knew what that meant. I was told to start dialysis, which has wiped away all my savings and other resources. If I fail to go for the dialysis, I feel severe pain in my body. This suffering is too much for me and I wish this cup will pass over me. This is not the kind of life I wished for.” Since he barely had the strength to talk long, his sister, Mrs. Lorretta Udemba, said since his predicament began, friends and relatives had spent almost all their life savings to save her sibling. She added that his situation had become a nightmare to the family because “we are drained of all our resources.” “Obinna’s medical condition was first detected in 2012, and he immediately started dialysis, which the family was able to sustain for some months. But we have not been able to continue with it due to financial constraints. Right now, his condition has deteriorated as you can see how helplessly he is sitting,” she said. Udemba added that her brother used to go for dialysis twice a week to stay fit – each session costing N50,000. She also disclosed that every month since 2012 when the illness started, the family spends about N500,000: N400,000 for dialysis and N100,000 for drugs and other contingencies. This has caused the family to be financially strained. But despite the dialysis, his condition is not getting any better, and doctors have advised that kidney transplant in an Indian hospital would be the way out of his predicament – at a cost of N8m ($48,000). Unfortunately, the family does not have the wherewithal to bear such cost. *Continues below*

Lillian, Nigeria’s representative who was booted out just after two weeks at the ongoing Big Brother Hotshot has said that she wouldn’t really know why she was evicted. Though so many people said she tried as much as possible to clone former BBA winner, Karen, by imitating her, thinking such strategy would work for her, Lillian said she was just herself and nobody else. “Karen is Karen and I am me. I didn’t try to be like her at all. I didn’t use any strategy in the house. I was just myself,” she said. Even as she spent a short while in the house, Lillian is optimistic that the platform would shoot her up in the entertainment industry. “It doesn’t matter that my stay was short but I believe I will be more known now. I am an actress. I intend to start a talk show. I know that my place in the entertainment industry is not limited,” she said. As she has been booted out, some other contestants’ fate is hanging. Before the end of tomorrow, Arthur; Frankie (both Rwanda); Kacey Moore (Ghana); Luis (Namibia); Mr. 265 (Malawi) and Macky2 (Zambia) would know if they still have more time to stay in the house during the eviction show. http://www.punchng.com/entertainment/saturday-beats/i-didnt-imitate-karen-in-bba-lillian/

Controversy seems to trail Wizkid as honey attracts bees. The talented lad was in the news again recently and this time, it was alleged that he was arrested in far away Kenya for smoking Indian hemp. Reports in a Kenyan newspaper, Standard Media, stated that Wizkid was arrested in Nairobi in his Plaza Crown Hotel room on Saturday afternoon. The arrest was said to be in connection with allegations that he was caught smoking Marijuana. It reported that Wizkid was caught smoking inside the hotel where smoking is prohibited. The hotel’s front officer was reported to have queried Wizkid for smoking the prohibited substance, which led to a heated argument that reportedly attracted the hotel security officers who ended up calling the police to arrest him. According to the report, before police officers cuffed and drove him to Capital Hill police station where he was quizzed, the hotel had already charged him with Sh50, 000 smoking penalty, which he was said to have paid through his credit card. In the report, Kenyan singer Victoria Kimani, who was described as ‘his newly found flame’ bailed him. She was reported to have been with Wizkid at the hotel the previous day. Because of the incident, the paper said Wizkid who was due to leave for Lagos at around 3pm was forced to cancel the flight. Effort to contact the hotel by Saturday Beats was futile as calls made to its telephone numbers could not connect. However, Wizkid’s manager, Seun Johnson, said that although the artiste was in Kenya for different shows, he was not arrested for smoking marijuana. “It is just a rumour that they are peddling online. He was in Kenya at different days for different events. There is no truth in what they posted online,” Johnson said. http://www.punchng.com/entertainment/saturday-beats/wizkid-not-arrested-in-kenya-manager/

Atlético unhappy with LFP awards The president of Atlético de Madrid, Enrique Cerezo, has once again referred to the controversy surrounding the LFP prizes and the lack of prizes awarded to the 'Rojiblancos' - this time on Radio Marca's 'Intermedio' program. "Since the ceremony finished I've continually received calls and messages about the awards. There's unanimity about the Atlético players. I want to congratulate Gabi, Koke and Miranda as if it were them that picked up the prizes". He's certain that errors were made: "I don't have anything against those that won, but if we want these prizes to be of any importance we'll need to change the system, We're talking about what we consider to be the best league in the world". The Atlético president referred to the Ballon d'Or: "The votes in that competition are public, they come out. In the case of the LFP, they're confidential". He gave a clear opinion of what his players represent: "Courtois was the 'Zamora' in the league, league champion and Champions League runner-up. Miranda and Godín are the best centre-back pairing in the world and Koke is one of the best players in Europe in his position". Many sources have mentioned Real Madrid's influencing powers, but Cerezo was adamant: "I don't think that Florentino is behind this in any way".http://www.marca.com/en/2014/10/28/en/football/spanish_football/1414519600.html |

FC Barcelona is the best club in Europe when it comes to producing players according to French newspaper L’Équipe. The prestigious publication has highlighted a report by the CIES Football Observatory which concludes that the blaugranes have produced more players than any other club in Europe’s top five leagues. The figure stands at 43, 13 of which still currently play for FC Barcelona – evidence that La Masia brings results... The study centres on the English, French, German, Italian and Spanish Leagues and looks at players who have spent three years at one particular club – not necessarily consecutive – between the ages of 15 and 21. Furthermore, the player has to have appeared in the league at least once since the beginning of the season, or at least once in each of the preceding two seasons with the first team of a professional club. In the ranking FC Barcelona are followed by Manchester United (36 players), Real Madrid (34), Olympique Lyonnais (33) and Paris Saint-Germain (32)... ![]() http://www.fcbarcelona.com/football/first-team/detail/article/fc-barcelona-the-best-football-factory-in-europe |
