Relax guys, as it is often said "There are at least seven different ways of KILLING A CAT" .....even if it claims to have nine lives! grin grin wink wink

When you are dealing with "The Devil", you need to be smart and have a long spoon!

First, l dont support Landlords/ladies "abusing tenant rights". That is the most important statement l can make today!

But any silly tenant who thinks he or she can "take advantage' of our weak judicial system, to rubbish a landlord and taunt, abuse and oppress him/her, has another thing coming!

Ask ourself: How come tenants dont owe house rents in foreign countries like U.S.A, Europe and Canada?
The reason is that "The law is balanced and it functions" in those places!

You owe just one week rent and the House owner will simply get an IMMEDIATE Court order (within a day or two) and he will change the ENTRANCE KEY right away and if you break the door, you will go to jail.... all within a short time.
Our Courts and judges need to step up if they are truly desirous of "enforcing laws".
The Govt itself needs to build AFFORDABLE housing units for the masses.

Having said that, there are easier ways within the African/Yoruba Context to send out such "evil tenants".

I wont elaborate much and l will post this as a "reported speech" just so that l am properly covered....
But this is how it happened to one tenant like that, ..in order of "appearance":
*Unknown "thieves" visit his room/flat and beat the hell out of him and also take some cash/valuables! => WARNING ...but least advisable due to possibility of leaving traces)!
*He still did not get the message, then he woke up one morning to find "Eboo" (Ritual offering) at his door thereafter, he starts battling strange illness. He just started "drying up' like someone with HIV! people who knew him were asking: Baba Chinedu, wetin do you now? shocked

Ofcourse he went to report to the Police but since nobody knew who brought the "Eboo" and no one could trace/connect its efficacy to his illness, NOTHING COULD BE DONE since our laws does not recognize such "nonsense"! grin kiss kiss

This is why l love the "African/Yoruba traditional methods of solving knotty problems. (as some people from a particular section of the country are typical of this kind of behaviour of not paying their rent and not vacating the house)....
If you dont like a landlord or dont like the house, just vacate peacefully instead of thinking you would suffer a landlord who "sacrificed" and took time, pain and scarce resources to put up a house ...that you now reside inside!
Even if you cant vacate immediately (due to reasons beyond your control but you are making genuine effort to vacate), make sure you never owe him his rent. if he does not accept it, go and pay it at the court for safe-keeping and they woudl issue you with a receipt!

As l was recounting, by the time this errant tenant starts hearing "strange noises" in his flat at night and no one else could hear it, he himself started thinking "he was loosing it" but as stubborn as they come, he bluffed it off as superstition!

Finally, he became so ill from "Ategun" that he was advised by "those in-the-know" to stop oppressing his Landlord otherwise he would pay with his "breath".
No one forced him before he came to beg Landlord to PLEASE give him one more week ....and he paid all his arrears before packing out!
I am sure a few people here would have had/heard of the same experience?
Omode o mogun, o npe l'eefo! wink

No need for violence or removing roofing sheet.
We must go back to our tradition in solving certain problems that are unique to our environment.
But let me add: The above would not work for a landlord who tries to oppress his tenant for no good reason! The 'gods' are not partial.
Adaabi jaa j'oogun lo! Even the Bible says "Curse without (Good) REASON, shall not land", right?

The funny thing is that most Nigerians think this "options" are lost in our generation simply because there are lots of quacks masquerading as traditionalist! I can understand younger kids born in Lagos/urban areas who dont know 'jack' about their origins, culture or identity.
Up till today, in my village and my house, you still cant enter and steal in the owners absence ... but the bad caveat is that it cant be used for profit! You cant 'trade' it for a benefit. if given it must be given free.

so many disappointing comments right here. we blame, blame , blame and blame. do we really watch the games at all? no other team in the whole of europe endures what our attackers have to endure game after game, not chelsea, not man u, not real madrid, not bayern. i have watched every of barca's games and it's always the same. teams put 8 men at the back from the blast of the whistle, and play on the counter. sometime in 2012 this technique was discovered. and it has worked for them. its easy to blame messi, its easy to blame neymar, its easy to blame iniesta, xavi and co. by the end of the season we would have blamed the whole of the 23 players. who doesnt know that there are always two lines of 4 defenders each whenever messi or neymar gets the ball? what are they supposed to do? disappear through the walls? and reappear on the other side?it's also very easy to say 'messi shouldnt be missing the chances he gets' but anyone who has played the game might know that its very easy to miss a chance when you have been worn out already trying to break down an 8 man defence or when you get a one on one with the keeper and your subconscious tells you there 'hundreds' of defenders around you. all the boys are good: messi, neymar, suarez, iniesta, rakitic, etc etc. we will get back to winning ways. what needs to change is the pattern of play. something must be done about teams playing 8 men at the back from minute 1. anyone who claims this is just an excuse is insincere. what should be done to create spaces at the back? give the ball away to the opposition? play long balls promptly to the attackers? worst culprit-busquets-i have seen busquets countless times do this: he wins the ball from the back and instead of sending a long ball forward while the defence is still sparse, he opts to make a side pass to xavi, xavi back pass to pique, pique another side pass to masch, then masch to busquets again, 3 minutes are gone, 8 defenders have taken thier positions again at the other end. all of these when the ball could have gone from busquets to messi or neymar in 6 seconds! like madrid or chelsea do it. what needs to change is the pattern of play.
You self calm down! grin

It really seems the magic has left him. He's no longer feared by both defenders and keepers anymore, while I still believe in him as a great player, I think he can also do better by converting the few chances he has this days. I am really pissed off seeing him wasting free kicks when there are some other players who can do it better. At least Neymar and Suarez can, so why the monopoly?

black247:
I am Nigerian. I am Igbo in fact. I agree with everything that you said. But you forgot one important thing:

What should we say about the African men and women that flee to white countries - not because of political unrest..not because of political upheaval (read: Rwanda massacres) but simply because they are merely disappointed with their country leaders - and instead of fighting to rebuild Africa - they shamefully burden other countries infrastructure (like America). What about the Nigerian men and women who are so proud to run to England and America, while the natives of those countries are wondering why you - who come from a country that receives aid, millions in fact, are found cowering in their institutions begging for citizenship.

You will not get respect from the average white American - because firstly: they dont want you there...but also because they still see you as the incapable African, and you prove that with your post, you feel too incapable to fight, fight for transformation but you do like most of us do: simply TALK.

What do the English and American see when they look at you? - you are their black monkey - a black monkey that had to come to their land to get properly civilized. For why do you think the whites view the most successful blacks in America as incompetent - talking not of the poor ghetto ones (we all have those) I am talking about the black lawyers and doctors..why are they viewed as so lowly?

Answer: The ruling class still associate even the former slaves (500 years removed) to their ancestors "PRIMITIVE AFRICA".

I agree we have lots to do, but your full respect as a man will never be realized for you until you come back and join empowering movements - even if you start one yourself.

This ravaged continent that we call mighty Africa is a place that ALL blacks will forever be married to. No one can escape this marriage. If the Haitian, the Afro-Cuban, the black American are still associated with Africa..what do you think your association will be? And whats even worse, they didnt have a choice - you did, and you left running..with no plans to fight. And the irony of it all is that you are RUNNING to the very people that takes pleasure in destabilizing US.

America has had the dirtiest of beginnings. But even still - the men who created your mighty new nation that you are foolishly proud to show your face in - actually built their country, brick by brick - saturated in African blood. And they will NEVER respect any of us that have the good sense to provide a sound analysis but not provide solutions - and yet run to them..those who murdered your cousins, they think we are the foolish of them all. I mentioned to Fula (a cool moderator) the other day, Africans - we dont understand racism, and he (thankfully) knew exactly what I was talking about in my posts.

In everything you said, which I agree with it all - even the part that us Nigerians cant take criticism - you forgot the men and women who leave and burden other infrastructures instead of fighting for our own. I don't wish you harm, nor do I wish you to stay in Nigeria if you are being abused...but I do judge people like you that talk about how poorly we are doing when you havent lifted ONE SINGLE finger to help our mighty nation, our mighty continent ...or even think to even avenge the deaths on our screaming soil.

Nigerians are cultural chauvinists.
We are tribal.
We are petty.
Sometimes we brag too much for our own gain.
We are much too flashy.
We have no good sense to respect the hosts that we burden - xenophobia isnt all their fault at times.
We foolishly talk about the West while being in their countries - with our hands and mouth opened up like birds waiting on bread.

And EVERY thing you mentioned...but we are also cowardly, and I hope that you gain the courage to return home...to build an Africa that you dream we should be. Otherwise, you should hold up a mirror.
I can't remember the last time I read a full script like yours but you are a "PERSPICACIOUS MAN"... wink

I wish we all can stand up & do the needful to make Nigeria & Africa a better place if not the best place in the World... cool

PoliticsKidnapped Girls Are Now Married - Boko Haram's Leader Abubakar Shekau by coded01(op): 4:36am On Nov 02, 2014
MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AP) — With a malevolent laugh, the leader of Nigeria's Islamic extremists tells the world that more than 200 kidnapped schoolgirls have all been converted to Islam and married off, dashing hopes for their freedom.

"If you knew the state your daughters are in today, it might lead some of you ... to die from grief," Abubakar Shekau sneers, addressing the parents of the girls and young women kidnapped from a remote boarding school more than six months ago.

In a new video released late Friday night, the Boko Haram leader also denies there is a cease-fire with the Nigerian government and threatens to kill an unidentified German hostage.

"Don't you know we are still holding your German hostage (who is) always crying," he taunts. "If we want, we will hack him or slaughter him or shoot him."

A German development worker was kidnapped at gunpoint in Gombi, a town in Nigeria's northeast Gombi in July. Police reported he was ambushed as he drove to work.

Germany's Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier last week told reporters in Abuja, Nigeria's capital, that he had no new information about a German abductee.

In the new video, Shekau wears a camouflage tunic and pants and the black and white flag of al-Qaida is by his side. He is flanked by masked and armed fighters standing in front of four military pickup trucks mounted with anti-aircraft guns. Boko Haram has looted many weapons and vehicles including armored cars from Nigeria's military.

The military has several times claimed to have killed Shekau, and says any new videos are made by a look-alike. But the United States has not removed a $7 million ransom on the head of the extremist leader.

On Oct. 17, Nigeria's military chief, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, announced that Boko Haram had agreed to an immediate cease-fire to end a 5-year insurgency in which thousands have died and hundreds of thousands have been driven from homes in northeast Nigeria. And government officials said they expected the Chibok girls to be released any day.

But Shekau denies in the video that he has agreed to any truce and says he is dedicated to fighting and dying a martyr's death to guarantee him a place in paradise.

"You people should understand that we only obey Allah, we tread the path of the Prophet. We hope to die on this path ... Our goal is the garden of eternal bliss," he says.

He said Boko Haram is interested only in "battle, hitting, striking and killing with the gun, which we look forward to like a tasty meal," he said.

The fighting and abductions have continued, with Boko Haram seizing the commercial center of Mubi this week and fighting raging Friday around nearby Vimtin, the village where Badeh was born.

And the only news of the girls has come from Shekau, who appeared to dash hopes that they would be released in an exchange for detained Boko Haram fighters.

"The issue of the girls is long forgotten because I have long ago married them off," Shekau says with a chortle. The extremist fighters have ordered girls to stay out of Western-style schools and get married. Boko Haram is a nickname meaning "Western education is sinful" in the Hausa language.

An earlier video in May showed some of the kidnapped girls, including two explaining why they had converted to Islam. Unconfirmed reports have indicated the girls have been divided into groups and that some have been carried across borders, into Cameroon and Chad. There also have been reports that they were forced to marry fighters who paid a nominal bride price equivalent to $12.

Some 276 girls and young women were kidnapped in the early hours of April 15 from a boarding school in the remote town of Chibok. Dozens escaped on their own in the first couple of days but 219 remain missing.

The plight of the girls attracted international outrage, with demands that Boko Haram free them. The Nigerian government and military's failure to secure their release has brought criticism that President Goodluck Jonathan is uncaring of their fate.

Shekau in August announced that Boko Haram wanted to establish an Islamic caliphate, along the lines of the IS group in Syria and Iraq. Fleeing residents have reported that hundreds of people are being detained for infractions of the extremists' version of strict Shariah law in several towns and villages under their control.

Shekau's video announcement further discredits the government of President Goodluck Jonathan, a Christian southerner who on Thursday formally announced his candidacy for elections on Feb. 14, 2015, in Africa's most populous nation. Nigeria's 160 million people are divided almost equally between Muslims who dominate the north and Christians in the south. The West African nation is the biggest oil producer on the continent and has its biggest economy.
