If a Coach can blame his Best player who single-handedly took Nigeria to the 2nd round!

SportsPresidency May Persuade Keshi To Stay On by coded01(op): 11:27pm On Jul 04, 2014
SUPER Eagles’ Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, may not dump the Nigerian national team after all, a source close to the ‘Big Boss’ has revealed.

Keshi announced his resignation as Super Eagles’ coach shortly after Nigeria’s elimination from the on-going Brazil 2014c World Cup by France.

He hinged his decision to quit the job he took in 2011 on the uncooperative attitude of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), claiming that his two-year stint on the job has been bedeviled by back-biting, animosity and non-provision of basic tools for his job by his employers.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, told The Guardian on Wednesday that Keshi was rethinking the decision following intervention by top Presidency officials.

Among other things, the source revealed that the Presidency has promised to review the coach’s condition of service and provide all the materials necessary for his success on the job.

“The coach has had a fruitful discussion with top government officials and as a patriot, he could be persuaded to withdraw his resignation threat.

“One of the issues was that the NFF did not deem it necessary to offer him a contract and other materials necessary for the job, but the Presidency has offered to rectify all that. Keshi loves serving Nigeria, but he also wants to work in a dignified atmosphere.’’

The Guardian could not get officials of the NFF to comment on the issue, as they were said to be engrossed in the latest crisis in Nigerian football administration.

However, indications that the government could be willing to bend backwards to persuade Keshi to stay started emerging shortly after Nigeria lost 0-2 to France in the second round of the World Cup in Brasilia.

In its assessment of the country’s performance at the Copa Du Mundo, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) during the week congratulated Keshi for a job well done, saying that the Super Eagles gave a good account of themselves.

The congratulatory message was followed by the Minister of Sports, Tammy Danagogo’s pass mark to Keshi and his boys, saying that the team met all the expectations of the nation.

Nigeria’s next assignment is the qualifiers for the 2015 African Nations Cup, which begins later in the year.

SportsAlgeria Gives World Cup Bonus To The Poor by coded01(op): 11:16pm On Jul 04, 2014
THE African side returned to their homeland to a hero’s welcome and have decided to donate their prize money from the summer tournament to poor people in the region.

Algeria’s World Cup squad will donate their bonus money to the people of Gaza, striker Islam Slimani has revealed.

After reaching the second round of the tournament, Algeria were eliminated by Germany after an excellent display, taking Joachim Low’s men into extra time before succumbing to a 2-1 defeat.

The team returned to Algeria as heroes and the players have opted to donate their prize money from the summer tournament to those less fortunate.

“They need it more than us,” Slimani said when asked about why the squad were making the grand gesture.

The revelation comes after Ghana boycotted a training session during the competition following a row with the nation’s FA over bonus money.

The dispute was eventually resolved when the country’s government flew a plane over to Brazil carrying €2.3 million in cash, only for the side to then be eliminated in the group stage.

Nigeria were also embroiled in a cash-related dispute, with players downing tools at training over fears they would not be paid for playing in the tournament, following a similar episode at the Confederations Cup last summer.

President Goodluck Jonathan intervened to assure the players that payment would be made, though that did little to aid their cause as they were knocked out in the last-16 by France.
