It seems you have forgotten that we are now dealing with a new, and more likely very direct Barca. Anything is possible, and obviously their ain't no more a first eleven.
In the current setup the best midfield it seems we can muster is Iniesta-Busquets-Rakitic. Not a keep-ball formation in my view, since Rakitic is not known to be a great passer of the ball like that.

The only real competition for James is Leo Messi. We don't have a playmaker in the team, so Messi essentially occupies two positions - playing in the 'hole', and also occupying the 9 position on the pitch. You can play James in the hole, and put a real striker in the number 9 - and maybe move Messi out right. Iniesta will play on the left as usual
