Bump.

Some people here were either very young OR are largely gullible with a very short memories. That Occupy Nigeria fuel subsidy protest was VERY necessary as of the time it took place as it made the GEJ government to pay more attention to the details they had ORIGINALLY ignored in their urgent plan to remove the fuel subsidy and increase the pump price WITHOUT a commensurate increase in salaries via negotiations, NO alternative refineries or CNG-FUEL sources and more.

The reason why there was resistance in Lagos, Kano, and elsewhere towards the fuel subsidy removal under Goodluck Jonathan is simply because NO alternatives or cushions were provided. Period.

There was NO new refinery like what exists now with Dangote Petrochemical Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos and it was because of the Occupy Nigeria protests that GEJ then conceded that a Greenfield Refinery would be built, but that was NEVER done until GEJ left office. Even Chimamanda Adichie and more was in support of the Occupy Nigeria fuel subsidy removal protests which Ibo traders were widely reported in the mass media to have ignored or boycotted in their South Eastern Nigeria markets.
N120 was around $0.65 back then. Today, thats over N1000. Obidients keep playing lazy politics with Naira floating by trying to make direct comparison before and after floating of Naira

... These are men who not only use their resources but also supported by their government... Not like here when the director of a technological and engineering agency was defending her spent budget saying they spent billions of naira into creating a power bank,, The Senate committee were shocked on hearing it..
Chaiii. They will need billions of trillions to build a washing machine or grinder then.

Did they do it all by themselves or they got massive financial support from their govt?
Here we expect an innovator to do it all. Get funds. Get power. Get machines.

PoliticsRe: US Dollar-Naira Exchange Rate — The Last 5 CBN Governors By StatiSense by CodeTemplarr: 10:47am On May 16, 2025
EMIOMOADEOYE:
I don't need to try harder. Whether or not you agree changes nothing.

You are right that CBN cannot directly impact output. CBN won't plant seeds. CBN won't harvest crops. CBN won't hire workers on the far. You are right.

But, interestingly, you mention Trade and Industry. You also mentioned Finance. Are these sectors not directly impacted by CBN's monetary policies?

Credit availability, interest rates, exchange rates, and inflation. Are these not under the direct purview of the CBN? Do these things not directly impact the real sector?

That's the point. CBN does not play a direct role. Still, CBN has a lot to do. And we saw the impact CBN could make on the economy during the time of Sanusi.
Stop the useless back n forth. I gave you a solid example. Most MDAs run autonomously so stop saying cbn monetary policies affect them. Does it affect them when they steal?
