Foreign Affairs › Dozens Of DR Congo Mourners Killed In Attack Linked To Jihadist Group by CodeTemplarr(op): 4:14pm On Sep 09, 2025 |
IS-affiliated fighters have carried out attacks in both DR Congo and Uganda.
Rebels linked to the Islamic State (IS) group have killed more than 50 people at a funeral ceremony in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, officials have said.
Most of the victims were hacked with machetes in the night-time assault by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) on a village in North Kivu province, officials added.
This is the latest in a string of attacks linked to the ADF, raising fears that its insurgency is growing in strength.
The ADF emerged in Uganda in the 1990s, accusing the government there of persecuting Muslims. It is now based across the border in DR Congo and carries out attacks in both countries.
"I can confirm a provisional death toll of 50. The victims were caught off guard at a mourning ceremony in the village of Ntoyo," Macaire Sivikunula, a local administrator, was quoted as saying by Reuters news agency.
DR Congo army spokesman Lieutenant Marc Elongo said the ADF fighters had "already committed the massacre" by the time soldiers intervened during Monday night's attack, Reuters reported.
A local broadcaster, Radio Mishapi Voice, quoted witnesses as saying there was "utter carnage" in the village, and some people were also burnt in their homes.
The ADF has not yet commented.
The group is affiliated to the Islamic State's Central African Province.
More than 40 people, including nine children, were killed in an attack by its fighters in north-eastern Democratic Republic of Congo in July, the UN and the military said at the time.
Most of them were worshippers taking part in a night vigil at a church in the town of Komanda when they were attacked.
According to research by BBC Monitoring, nearly 90% of IS operations are now carried out by affiliates in Africa.
Ugandan and DR Congo troops have previously carried out joint operations in a bid to quell the insurgency. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czdj4qgm4d9oCc

Ethiopia has officially inaugurated Africa's largest hydroelectric project, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), a $5 billion development on the Blue Nile that will supply power to millions and reshape regional dynamics. The dam, which began partial operations in 2022, reached its full capacity of 5,150 MW on Tuesday, September 9, placing it among the 20 largest hydroelectric dams in the world. Ethiopia, with a population of over 120 million, sees the GERD as a cornerstone of its economic ambitions.
At the inauguration in Guba, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed emphasized that the project was built to bring prosperity, electrify the region, and change the history of black people. He assured Egypt and Sudan that the dam was “not to harm its brothers.”
The reservoir, which covers an area larger than Greater London, is expected to stabilize water flow for irrigation and reduce the risks of floods and drought.
Egypt, however, remains concerned that the GERD could threaten its vital Nile water supply, especially during droughts. With the Nile providing about 90% of its fresh water, Cairo has repeatedly called for legally binding agreements on the dam’s filling and operation. Sudan has echoed Egypt’s demands but also stands to benefit from better flood control and access to cheaper electricity.
Despite initial fears, independent studies suggest no significant disruptions to downstream water flow so far, thanks to cautious reservoir management and favorable rainfall.
The GERD has become a symbol of national pride in Ethiopia, uniting a country long divided by internal conflicts. Most of the funding — 91% — came from Ethiopia’s central bank, with the rest raised through bonds and contributions from citizens.
Ethiopia launches Africa
For locals, the impact is already visible. “We now have refrigerators. We can drink cold water. We use electricity for everything,” said Sultan Abdulahi Hassan, a farmer living near the dam.
While urban areas enjoy widespread electrification, rural Ethiopia still lags behind due to weak transmission infrastructure. The government hopes the GERD’s surplus energy will eventually close that gap and boost industries, including the growing bitcoin mining sector.[/b] Since Seun's mod like BBNAIJA and Highways more. Politics › PDP Versus APC Stealing Models, Which Is Better? by CodeTemplarr(op): 9:13am On Sep 09, 2025*. Modified: 10:13am On Sep 09, 2025 |
I know PDP is as good as dead but lets consider the impact of their wealth circulation methods side by side with APC.
Under PDP, we had many subsidy thieves. Thousands of them and oil bunkering agents(AKA KpoFire), no taxes to kill you, less of a sutuation whereby currency is trapped in one part of the country but causing inflation in every part.
Under APC, subsidy is gone, and the savings are largely in Abuja. Even the governors are largely (or always) in Abuja with their share of the savings. Inflation, burdening taxation, press gagging antics. Vote-buying social safety nets to less the 1% of the people.
I think i prefer the PDP wealth circulation method(Theft pattern) of PDP if theft must be allowed. |

Mega roads and mega flyovers. Whats the difference if 10,000 subsidy thieves recirculate the wealth and few mega project thieves monopolise the wealth in exchange for future tolls and debt? |

Cromagnon: void that's how taxes work. It takes from the st2pd who think they can reap where they did not sow.
Poor (consumers) think they can use numbers to get awoof from rich(producers) Now think logically instead of emotionally Rich produces product for $10 you ask for more taxes (50%) $5 all the rich have to do is increase those taxes and add it to the final product ($15 ) no matter what, you the poor will always pay the taxes never the rich.
Because you produce very little nothing. All your bad belle (requesting taxes on those more productive than you) dos is make the government officials reach who produce nothing at least you the poor produce labor government produces absolutely nothing of any value.
Try to be more productive instead of looking for awoof Wash your face with water and type something more coherent mr man. |
