See the video of Mahrez kicking the penalty twice and you understand that no such thing happened with Julian Alvarez. It's at best a 50/50 decision. Not a clear and obvious error.

obviously from that video, the ball grazed his foot albeit slightly. the rule is that the ball mustn't touch your standing foot at all, if it does the taken spot kick gets annulled whether the contact alters the trajectory of the ball or not.
This same thing happened with Mahrez years ago, unfair but it's what it is.

This analysis of yours isn't fair. De Jong was injured for long and just recently started being in the first eleven. The casado you prefer also doesn't rank very high on possession recoveries even though he's primarily a DM and has had more minutes than FDJ.
Truth is casado had a slight fall of, he made mistakes that cost us points and became too careful on the ball. He had consecutive ineffective 45 minutes and had to always be taken off for FDJ who changed the trajectory of games in our favour. That's how FDJ got to win his place in the XI
I honestly think you're being toi harsh on FDJ. If you watched yesterday's game, I'm sure you observed how we were all over the place until the red card. La Real continuously penetrated our midfield and there was no answer or cohesion at all until they became one man down. Casado is obviously a more robust tackler but Frenkie brings more to the team than what casado offers.
I won't write off FDJ yet, let's see how the game on Wednesday would go, he's definitely starting that one.
