Considering the market today, how can I literally differentiate between Porcelain tiles from ceramic tiles from looking at both from the back and front and besides, is there a standard thickness for all tiles layed inside the house.

I must say that's a brave thought. Staying on your own will expose you to a lot if things which you dont plan for and you have to be very very self discipline and concious of the things you do and you you go about doing them, faninancial planing and the will power to say ye or no irrespective of the person you are dealing with.
