A coalition of Delta State Community Youth Forum, Monday, declared its unalloyed support for the state governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, affirming that they would rally round him for a second tenure till 2031.

Members of the coalition who were in Government House, Asaba, in large numbers on a solidarity visit to the governor, said they would continue to support the policies and programmes of the Governor Oborevwori- led administration in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, the President of the National Association of Delta State Students, NADESSTU, Comrade Monday Wiiska, said they were in Government House to celebrate the governor's victory in the March 18, 2023 gubernatorial poll in the state and his subsequent legal victories at the various courts up to the Supreme Court.

Comrade Whiska disclosed that 80 critical youth groups, representing the diverse ethnic nationalities in the three senatorial districts of the state which constitute the coalition, had decided to unite in a harmonious declaration of support to celebrate the victory of the governor.

He said: "We stand here today, as leaders of various ethnic nationalities; PDP youth leaders (male and female); the Critical Youth Group in Delta State under the umbrella of Delta State community youth who are representing the vast interest of majority of youths, to declare our support for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori till 2031.

"We stand with you till 2031 where you will have ample time to deliver on your passionate mandate of the MORE Agenda just as it is written in the holy book of Job Chapter 22 verse 28 that 'as we decree on Earth, so shall it be established in heaven.

"Your victory is a reverberating echo of the peoples resolute mandate bestowed upon you at the gubernatorial election held on 18 of March, 2023.

"During the election, the vibrant youths of Delta State chose you because we believed in you and your MORE Agenda for Deltans.

"The choice of the youths and other Deltans resonated powerfully in your victory in 21 out of the 25 local government areas across the state during the election.

"As we express our felicitation for your triumph at the Supreme Court, we are overwhelmed with joy over your distinctive vision for Delta State which is now yielding tremendous dividends.

"You have recorded remarkable progress since the birth of your administration. We can boast of the contract awarded to Julius Berger PLC, employment of teaching and non-teaching staff in primary schools across the state and payment of pensions to retirees in the state, among others.

"Your compassionate care for Deltans through timely distribution of palliatives was top-notch. Within your first six months of stewardship, your legacy in the state is growing impressively."

Responding, Governor Oborevwori thanked the youths for their support and pledged to continue working for the peace and development of the state.

The Governor said: "It is my pleasure to receive you all here today. Thank you for thinking it worthwhile to come and express your solidarity with me on the affirmation of my electoral victory at the Supreme Court.

"Let me sincerely thank all of you because I am aware that throughout the trials, all of you were there for me. Some of you went to Lagos and Abuja several times during the court cases.

"God will bless you all for your sacrifices. And, like I have promised Deltans, I am going to be a Governor for all Deltans.

"This love that you have shown me and this government, it's only God that will show you your own love. When I stepped into this hall, I saw the youth standing shoulder to stakeholder for my cause and I am impressed with the turnout.

"I want to sincerely commend the Commissioner for Youths and the Special Adviser for this outing. The Commissioner approached me that the youths are coming on a solidarity visit and here you are today.

"My victory at the Supreme Court was celebrated all over Delta state; in the 270 wards, in all the 25 local government areas of the state and the three senatorial districts were all agog in celebration of this victory."

Governor Oborevwori assured the youths of his continued partnership, saying; "I have lived with you people here and I know your pains. All I want to assure you is that I will not disappoint you with my street wisdom and street credibility.

"All of you worked very hard to deliver PDP and for us to win 21 local government areas with a margin of over 120,000 votes in a BVAS- based election, it was just God who touched you all to come out enmasse to give me your mandate. Let me assure you that I will not disappoint you with this mandate you have given to me.

"When I was campaigning, I said I will include youths into the government; today, I have over 10 of them that are below 40 years and they have good content to serve the people of Delta State. I am a promise keeper and they are doing well in the positions given to them.

"In less than eight months, I have employed over 3,000 teaching and non-teaching staff. I have also approved the bursary payment for students, awaiting Exco ratification and the money is already available.

"I have also been running this administration for the past eight months without borrowing. Oborevwori Seeks Oil Firms' Support For Delta Security Trust Fund

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Monday, called on oil companies operating in the state to partner the state government in funding the state security trust fund.

Governor Oborevwori made the call when he received the new Police Commissioner in the State, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, and his management team on a courtesy call at Government House, Asaba.

While congratulating the Commissioner of Police on his posting to the state, Governor Oborevwori urged him to work hard like his predecessor, Wale Abbas, who was recently promoted Assistant Inspector -General of Police.

Oborevwori said: "I welcome you to Delta State and as you have pledged, I urge you to cooperate with all stakeholders to ensure that Delta State is secured.

"In line with my M.O.R.E Agenda, we will ensure peace and security and we have been enjoying peace in the last few months.

"Delta State has been very stable for a very long time now; this is the first time that crime rate in Warri is very very low in Yuletide season.

"I want to commend the former CP, Wale Abbas, who has been promoted Assistant Inspector- General of Police. He did very well and he understood the workings of the state and, with your your rich profile, I know that Warri, in fact, all of Delta State, including Asaba, the state capital, will be a place where people can sleep with their eyes closed.

"I want to assure you that we will continue to cooperate with the Nigerian Police and other security agencies to ensure that there is enduring peace in Delta State.

"It is only when there is enduring peace that development can come to the state and, in the past few months, a lot of companies are already trying to relocate back by the grace of God."

While calling on oil companies to support the State Security Trust Fund, Governor Oborevwori assured that the state government would procure some operational vehicles for the police and other security agencies to enhance their work.

"Recently, we inaugurated the board of the Delta State Security Trust Fund and we know that the work of the Security Trust Fund is to make sure that the Police and other security agencies are well taken care of.

"We will continue to support the Security Trust Fund and I encourage the oil companies to also partner the state to support the Security Trust Fund.

"In Lagos State, the Security Trust Fund is functioning very well and I know that Delta State Security Trust Fund will also function very well with the support and partnership of the international oil companies in the state.

"We know that there are challenges of vehicle and the Police and other security agencies need vehicles to perform their duties. We will try as much as possible to provide some vehicles to support the work of security agencies.

"As you have pledged to support the state to ensure peace and security, it is my prayer that your work here is going to be productive and very satisfying. Together we can build the state.

Earlier, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, said he was in Government House to present himself to the Governor as the new Commissioner of Police in the state and pledged to work hard to ensure peace and security across the state.

"It is a privilege and great honour to be here today to present myself to the Executive Governor, having been posted here with a pledge to serve the people of Delta State, with a pledge to show nothing but absolute dedication to duty.

"It is my pledge to ensure that Deltans can sleep with their two eyes closed and to work in collaboration with the Governor and other stakeholders to ensure that this state is secured for everyone. This is my solemn pledge Your Excellency."

NEW DELTA FLYOVERS: Deltans rejoice as Julius Berger commences construction in Warri, Effurun

Residents and motorists plying the busy Warri and Effurun roads have expressed joy with the mobilisation to site of Julius Berger to commence the construction of flyover bridges and road expansion works in the twin metropolis of Delta State.

The construction giant on Monday mobilised to DSC Roundabout to commence the construction of the three flyovers, cloverleaf, pedestrian bridges and ancillary road expansion projects as part of the plans of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's administration for the infrastructure development and urban renewal of Warri, Uvwie and environs.

A supervising engineer from the State Ministry of Works, Emmanuel Oghorodje who was on ground to ensure the smoothness of the operation informed that the contractor has completed the planning and demarcation of the roads before mobilising to site and expressed confidence that with the commitment of Governor Oborevwori to ensuring the speedy completion of the projects, the company will deliver as scheduled.

He assured that measures have been put in place to reduce traffic jam on the road while the construction works are on, and urged road users to follow instructions and obey the traffic officers.

Many of the motorists lauded Governor Oborevwori for the landmark projects and called for its speedy completion, just as many of the traders in the area were full of praises for the Governor, noting that when completed the projects will boost economic activities in the metropolis.

It would be recalled that on October 18, 2023, the Delta Government and Julius Berger Nigeria Plc signed a N78 billion contract for the construction of three flyovers, a cloverleaf, pedestrian bridges and ancillary road expansion projects in the oil-rich Warri and Effurun metropolis, regarded as the economic nerve centre of Delta State.

Delta petitions FG over claims to Bedesiegha bridge rehabilitation

Delta State Government has refuted attempted claims by the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs on the rehabilitation of the failed Bedesiegha bridge, along Bomadi Road in the state.

Addressing journalists at the project site, on Saturday, the State Commissioner for Works Highways and Urban Roads, Comrade Reuben Izeze said it was mendacious and an attempt to swindle the Federal Government for anyone to lay claim to a project not done by them.

Izeze who was in company of his counterpart in the Ministry of Works, Rural and Riverine Roads, Mr Charles Aniagwu, Member Representing Patani Constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe and Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works, Engr. Fred Edafioghor said; "the approach to the bridge was eroded by flood in 2022 and the Delta State Government awarded this remedial work in December 2022 with a 6-months completion period which was not feasible because of another round of flood that made the place inaccessible.

"The water rose almost on top of the bridge so an emergency alternative route was created to at least take care of light vehicles below 20,000 tonnes.

"The Governor was particularly concerned because this road leads to five local governments and Bayelsa State and Niger Construction Company concluded work on the bridge since December 20, 2023 and it was subsequently opened up for use by the general public during Christmas.

"The main reason why we are here today is that in the course of laying the Asphalt in January, we discovered that certain persons had attempted to take credit for this job that was done by the Delta State Government through Niger Cat Construction Company.

"The bridge was completed and opened up to the general public as at December 20 and because the contractor and our engineers had gone on break, these persons came with the flag of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and placed them on both ends of the bridge.

"By their action they made it seem as if it was the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs that was responsible for the rehabilitation of the bridge but that is actually not the case.

"We are here to let the public, particularly the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and well meaning Nigerians to know that this project particularly the extension of the bridge was done by the Delta State Government and the contractors are right here with us. So it's surprising that somebody wants to lay claim to what they have not done."

On his part, Aniagwu commended the ministry for the proper supervision in ensuring that the project was delivered according to specification, saying, "I am happy that the work has been well delivered according to the Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation BEME.

"Like my colleague earlier said, we are also interested in helping the Federal Government to fight corruption because those who came here to erect their signpost without doing any work here obviously had the intention of deceiving the Federal Government.

"This project is not a small project because it runs into billions so for someone to come here and lay claim if you don't correct that impression the person may succeed collecting billions for work done by another person.

"We welcome interventionist agencies including Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC to work in our state because that is the reason they were set up but they must do the work well and claim money for the job they have done and not the one they have not done.

"We will continue to partner with them but not for the purpose of allowing us do a job and then go back and claim the money, that is corruption and we hope that the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs who has a whole lot of integrity will take note of this that the bridge at Bedesiegha along Bomadi Road was rehabilitated by the Delta State Government.

"It is in the characteristics of Governor Oborevwori to respond in good time, because it is his nature to ensure that projects are delivered in good time and I am happy that our people are now plying the route."

Member Representing Patani Constituency, Hon Emmanuel Sinebe lauded Governor Oborevwori for the prompt completion of the project, adding that it was a great relief to the people.

"We are very happy that this is happening in our time. The Governor is very proactive and has promised to touch every community in the state and we can see development coming to our area.

"We are very impressed with what we are seeing here today and I thank you all for the impressive job you have done here."

Earlier, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr Fred Edafioghor said the original construction of the bridge did not include an abutment consequently the bridge was severely eroded and was threatening to collapse the approach slab and completely deny all of us access to the bridge.

"About a year ago Bomadi and the other communities on the other side were completely cut off but the Delta State Government intervened and awarded the job to Niger Construction Limited for the expansion of the bridge and to undertake some remedial work in the area to protect the abortment and the embankment.

"That has been completed today and you can see that we have expanded it by a single span and the new extension is linked to the old bridge by a propped cantilever structure," he stated.

REP UKODHIKO TO OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS TO TEN BEST ISOKO STUDENTS WITH THE HIGHEST SCORES IN THE 2024 JAMB EXAMINATION IN AREAS OF ENGINEERING, MEDICINE, LAW, AND OTHER PROFESSIONAL COURSES

In fulfilment of his campaign promises to his people, the member representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. (Engr.)(Pastor) Jonathan Ajirioghene Ukodhiko , through his foundation, the UJA FAMILY FOUNDATION (UFF), will be offering scholarships to the ten (10) best Isoko origin indigent students who will score the highest mark in the 2024 Jamb examination.

The scholarship, which will cover full tuition fees and other related academic costs on campus, is specifically meant for indigent students who are intelligent, yet from poor backgrounds and would not be able to afford the exorbitant school fees, but are seeking to further their education through the pursuit of a career in any of the professional courses of engineering, medicine, law, ICT-related courses, and accounting.

Intended beneficiaries will be chosen from the pool of Isoko Indigent students who will be sitting for the 2024 JAMB EXAMINATION and would have scored the highest mark and are willing to be admitted into any of the nation's private universities.

The choice of private universities is to enable beneficiaries of the scholarship to graduate when due and to eliminate the intermittent delays experienced by students in government-owned universities due to ASSUU terminal strikes, which usually elongate and prolong students' study years.

Students who seek to benefit from the scholarship scheme must, first of all, be indigent(less privileged students), be exemplary, have shown unparalleled commitment to their educational pursuits, pass the 2024 Jamb examination with high scores, and have passed their O'level exams with all the needed papers in one sitting.

The objective of the scheme is to promote the manpower reserve of the Isoko people in core areas of our nation's 21st-century employability needs and to brighten the chances of Isoko sons and daughters in areas of dominance and needs in the near future.

Agbi Rejoices With Oborevwori On His Supreme Court Victory

By Kelvin Ohoror

The Special Adviser to the governor of Delta State on Project Monitoring/Audit Dr. Goodnews Agbi has congratulated the governor of Delta State Elder Sheriff Francis Oborevwori on his Supreme Court Victory, describing it as victory for all Deltans.

The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal by the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the last governorship election in Delta State, Ovie Omo-Agege.

Senator Omo-Agege had sought to sack Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a judgment, delivered by Justice Inyang Okoro of the five-member panel of the Supreme Court held that that the appeal lacked merit.

It held that the APC and its candidate did not prove that the election was not conducted in substantial compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act 2023.
The court dismissed Omo-Agege’s contention that some of the result sheets that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, relied upon to declare Oborevwori as the winner of the election, did not have serial numbers.

According to the court, even if the total number of INEC forms that the Appellants complained about are removed, it would still not affect the margin of lead that was in Oborevwori’s favour.

In a congratulatory message, Dr.Agbi described the victory as a testament to the resounding mandate the people of Delta State have bestowed upon Elder Oborevwori to be their governor.

He said governor Oborevwori vision, integrity, and passion for the wellbeing of the people will undoubtedly guide him in making impactful decisions and implementing positive changes.

The Court of Appeal, Lagos on Friday, in a unanimous judgment, affirmed the election of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as winner of the March 18, poll, in Delta State.

The appellate court dismissed the appeal brought before it by the governorship candidate of All Progressive Congress, APC, in Delta State, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

The court held that the appeal lacked merit.

Recall that the Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba, had on September 29, upheld Oborevwori as winner of the March 18, governorship election.

Omo-Agege, however, filed an appeal at the appellate court, challenging the judgment of the election petition tribunal.

But Oborevwori, urged the court to dismiss the appeal which he contended lacked merit.

In it's judgment on Friday, the Court of Appeal upheld Oborevwori's election and dismissed Omo-Agege's appeal for lacking in merit.

The appellate court also upheld the judgment of the lower tribunal.

The tribunal in a separate judgment, dismissed the appeal by Kenneth Gbaji of Social Democratic Party, SDP, against PDP, APC and Labour Party, LP and their governorship candidates.

Similarly, the appellate court in a separate judgment, dismissed the appeal by Labour Party, LP and it's governorship candidate, Ken Pela, challenging the lower tribunal judgment, upholding the election of Oborevwori.

Nigeria has no reason to import petrol - Oborevwori

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Tuesday, urged the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders to work towards revitalising the nation's refineries, insisting that Nigeria has no reason to import petrol with its cost implications on the economy.

Governor Oborevwori stated this when he received the National Executive Committee of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) led by the National President, Comrade Williams Akporeha at Government House, Asaba.

He said there was no justification for an oil producing nation with four refineries to resort to fuel importation for its local consumption.

The Governor described NUPENG as a critical stakeholder in the Nigerian project and thanked the President and the union for the support given to him during and after the general elections.

Governor Oborevwori said: "I am happy that NUPENG have been in this struggle for years and I congratulate you for the struggle for more efficient and people oriented oil and gas sector and I celebrate you because you are a critical stakeholder in the Nigeria project.

"A lot of things have been happening. For years, our refineries have been down and nobody talks about how we can put our refineries to use; instead, we are importing petroleum products.

"This is also biting on the economy of this country. Look at the prices of things which have gone up because we are not producing. If we were producing, we won't have these challenges.

"The products we use today are being imported and we have refineries that are not working.

"I have promised Deltans in my M.O.R.E Agenda that security is very key. Infrastructure is there too. As you now know, most of the projects just awarded in Warri, will favour NUPENG because without good roads, you can't lift your products.

"Yesterday, my Deputy Governor went on inspection with the Honourable Minister of Works to inspect the Benin/Warri road and the Amukpe/Agbor road.

"Today, the Minister of Works is also going through the Ughelli/Patani/Bayelsa road to ascertain the level of damage on those roads. Without good roads we can't have access.

"As a state, we have embarked on the dualisation of the Ughelli-Asaba road, we have done about 70 percent. If we didn't embark on that road, we would not hhave had access to the capital city today. I am very sure that by this time next year, we will be completing the dualisation."

JULIUS BERGER N78 BN CONTRACT: Oborevwori restores hope in Warri, Effurun

For residents of the twin cities of Warri and Effurun, Delta State commercial nerve centre, the good times are back with the announcement of the State Executive Council’s approval for the award of contract worth N78 billion to construction giant, Julius Berger Nigeria Limited, for the construction of three flyover bridges, cloverleaf and road expansion.

Having endured years of neglect, decay and dilapidating infrastructure, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s big move to renew, regenerate and create new structure for the cities have elicited joy and celebrations among the residents.

Their joy stems from the fact that the megalopolis which, no doubt, remains one of the leading commercial centre of the state has been in a state of comatose and a shadow of its past.

The megalopolis, signposted by bad roads, unkempt environment and protracted traffic, has become a source of worry to the people. The immediate administration of Dr Ifeanyi Okowa gave reasons why he couldn’t do much in Warri, saying it was a result of the construction of storm water drains to curb flooding in the metropolis. Having achieved a percentage of the project, he was able to complete the widening of the Effurun Sapele Road before exiting office.

During his electioneering campaigns, Oborevwori made it succinctly clear that Warri and Effurun would be given a face-lift, a pledge he reiterated in his inauguration speech on May 29, 2023 and I quote him, “Warri, the commercial nerve centre of the State, will be given special attention under this administration. The process has already commenced with the establishment of Warri, Uvwie, and Environs Development Agency (WUEDA).

“Before the ongoing Storm Water Project will be completed, the government will commence efforts at giving Warri and its environs a total facelift. Similarly, the ongoing rehabilitation work on the Warri Township Stadium will be expedited”.

The governor made good his promise to the people of Warri and Uvwie when, on Tuesday, the Delta State Executive Council, at its 2nd meeting under his watch, announced the approval of N78bn contracts for three flyovers, one cloverleaf and road expansion works within the Warri and Effurun metropolis.

Briefing journalists at the end of the Exco meeting, Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, said Oborevwori’s approval of the projects was in fulfillment of his promise to give Warri/Uvwie a face lift.

Izeze said the justification for choosing Julius Berger was due to their experience and competitive pricing in relation to the quality of works and timely delivery of projects.

State Commissioner for Finance, Chief Fidelis Tilije, on his part, said the contract was worth N78 billion while the state government would make 25 percent advance payment of N19.5 billion with the balance paid through an ISPO for 30 months.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr Fred Edafiogho, who gave details of the projects, said approval of the contracts was aimed at solving the gridlock often experienced in the twin cities.

Edafiogho said the contracts included the design and construction of flyover bridge from Enerhen junction to Marine Gate; study, design and construction of road expansion and improvement works on the section of the DSC/NPA Expressway from Effurun roundabout to DSC roundabout including construction of a 3/4 Cloverleaf interchange at the existing Effurun flyover bridge as well as two pedestrian bridges.

Others are design and construction of flyover bridge at PTI junction and DSC roundabout along the Effurun/Patani, East-West highway, Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area.

Edafiogho further said that the project road expansion works on the DSC/NPA Expressway will provide two lanes of restricted carriageway at the centre for through-traffic and another two lanes of service road in each travel direction bring the current capacity of the road from four lanes to eight lanes. He added that the four projects have duration of 27 months with probable completion date of Dec. 2025.

The coming of Julius Berger to work in Delta for the first time in many decades has elicited commendation from leaders and members of opposition parties.

A leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and erstwhile member of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Silas Buowe, hailed Oborevwori for taking the bold step to bring Julius Berger Nigeria Limited to construct flyovers and roads in Warri and Effurun.

Buowe, one-time Secretary of the APC in Delta State, has been moved to concede that the governor is a man of great vision, capacity and commitment to the development of the state.

The APC stalwart was particularly impressed with Oborevwori’s bold move for the construction of flyovers to reshape Warri, Uvwie and environs and his commitment to standard delivery by contracting one of the best construction firms in Nigeria to handle the projects.

In an open letter of commendation to the governor titled: ‘Heartfelt Gratitude for Your Remarkable Commitment to Infrastructure Development’, Buowe noted that Oborevwori has not only come prepared but is also a listening governor whose actions and approach have demonstrated his foresight and commitment to the well-being of the citizens of Delta State.

Reiterating the desire of his administration to do more for the people of the state as promised during the electioneering campaign, Oborevwori, on Wednesday, said his administration was poised to break new grounds in infrastructural development, inclusive economic growth, and sustainable development in the state.

Speaking during the swearing-in of nine new Special Advisers, the governor called on the appointees to put in their best to actualize his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda for the people of the state.

He said the appointment of the Special Advisers was part of efforts towards building a strong team of technocrats and policy experts for the implementation of his administration’s policies and programmes, and charged the appointees to work with a sense of urgency, creativity, and innovation necessary to successfully execute policies and programmes for the greater good of all.

Oborevwori, also on Wednesday, also played host to the House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee on Non-remittance of the National Housing Fund, NHF, and the utilisation of the fund from 2011, led by Hon. Dachung Bagos, at Government House, Asaba.

The Committee lauded the governor and Delta State government for their commitment to ensuring prompt remittance of workers’ contributions to the NHF.

Bagos said with over 40 percent housing deficit in the country, the House of Representatives decided to tackle the challenge as most workers were retiring without a roof over their heads. He said their visit to Delta was informed by the state’s prompt remittance to the NHF and called on the governor to urge local government councils in the state to comply with the remittances.

The Reps Committee also commended Oborevwori for awarding multi-billion flyovers and road expansion contracts to Julius Berger to solve the perennial gridlock often experienced by residents of Warri and Effurun in Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Areas of the state.

“When we were doing our analysis on security checks before coming, we saw that you could be able to award the contract of three flyovers and other road expansion works to Julius Berger at a cost of over N78 billion, it shows that we have a leader that is truly looking into the plight of his people,” Bagos stated.
