Oborevwori passionate about quality projects' delivery - Agbi

The Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta on Project Monitoring and Audit, Engr. Goodnews Agbi, Thursday, said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was passionate about delivering quality and sustainable projects for the people of the state.

Agbi stated this during an interview with journalists at the ongoing construction of Uti Road in Uvwie Local Local Government Area of the state.

Other projects visited include; Ozoro Modern Market, Isoko North Local Government Area, Edo Guest House Road in Uvwie and Udu Harbour Market in Udu Local Government Area.

Flanked by top officials of the Directorate of Projects Monitoring and Audit, the Special Adviser commended Roadwell Construction for the quality work on Uti Road and Edo Guest House Road and for following the Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation.

According to him, "what the contractor is doing is to construct new drains and introduce boulders at critical sections. We are impressed with the quality, size and precision of the drains.

"The MORE Agenda of Governor Oborevwori is to give Deltans more value for their money in terms of quality projects delivery.

"The Governor is passionate about doing good roads and good jobs for the benefit of the people. The road was a failed road and what the Governor wants is a quality road that would stand the test of time.

"The contractor is working hard to rehabilitate it and bring it to the standard we want for the people of the area to enjoy and feel the impact of government.

"What the contractor is doing engineering wise is a very good work, you can see the thickness and the alignment of the drains and he has exceeded the universal size for drains and these are the kind of quality of work that Governor Oborevwori wants to see."

On completion timeline for the project Agbi, said the contractor has promised to work day and night to complete the job and ready for inauguration before the end of May.

At Edo Guest House Road, Ekpan, the Special Adviser commended the contractor, Roadwell Engineering for the quality of work done and called on the Warri Uvwie and Environs Development Agency, WUEDA to complete the storm drainage project on the Ekpan Road to enable the contractor link the drainage.

Earlier at Ozoro Modern Market, which comprised of 600 open and 30 lock up shops, storage area and other facilities, Engr Agbi urged the contractor to correct all errors observed and ensure prompt completion of the project to enable the community enjoy the benefit of the market project as intended by the state government.

Udu Harbour Mkt Ready April 2025 - Oborevwori

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Monday, said the multi-billion naira Udu Harbour Market in Udu Local Government Area of the state would be ready for inauguration in April, 2025.

Governor Oborevwori gave the assurance after inspecting ongoing works on the project which, according to him, had been delayed for too long.

Accompanied by the Commissioner for Trade and Investments, Mr Samuel Oligida, Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele and Oil and Gas Chief Vincent Oyibode, Governor Oborevwori while assuring the contractor of prompt payments of his certificates, warned that his administration had zero tolerance for shoddy jobs. He urged him to work harder to deliver the project on time as promised.

Governor Oborevwori said: "I was here for a function about two weeks ago, and I promised to come here and inspect this project with a view to fast tracking it.

"Contract for this project was awarded in 2006 and the initial contractor abandoned the project and it was re-awarded. I was here with the immediate past Governor when I was Speaker, to inspect this project.

"From 2023 to now, you can see the level of improvement on the project. When we came the last time, the fence was not there and the new buildings were not there as well.

"I made a promise that no project would be abandoned and it is important to note that this project is very key to the people Udu and environs.

"The project comprises 600 lockup shops and 122 open shops, and if it is completed in a very short time, as we expect it will, it will serve the economic needs of the people of this area.

"Keep working because we will not delay your payments, whether I come for inspection or not; I have with me here the Special Adviser on Project Monitoring and Audit, Dr Goodnews Agbi.

"He will be coming to oversee what you are doing here to take measurements and also look at the quality of work you are doing because what we want is quality jobs. We don't want substandard jobs."

We've done enough projects to celebrate 1st year in office - Oborevwori

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Monday, said his administration had completed many projects across the three senatorial districts of the state, billed for inauguration as part of activities to mark his first year anniversary in office.

Governor Oborevwori said this while inspecting Edo Road in Ughelli; Emevor-Orogun Road in Isoko North, the bridge across the Obo River at Ogwashi-Uku in sector C 1 of the Ughelli-Asaba Road dualisation, and the 5.3km Okpanam-Ibusa by-pass road in Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.

The Governor, who was conducted round the projects by the Commissioner for Works, Highways and Urban Roads, Comrade Reuben Izeze, and his counterpart in Rural and Riverine Roads, Mr Charles Aniagwu, said many projects had been completed and earmarked for inauguration, adding that he would start inaugurating projects before May 29.

Specifically on Edo Road in Ughelli being constructed by Obakpor Engineering Limited, Governor Oborevwori said: "I was here some weeks ago, and the contractor promised that they were going to finish work on the road by the end of May and that's why I have come here to inspect what they are doing.

"We introduced some box culverts here, because this place is always flooded, to channel water across to make the road durable. From what we have done here, once this ring road project is completed, it will help to reduce traffic congestion at Otovwodo Junction."

On the 4.4km Emevor-Orogun Road, Governor Oborevwori said; "I am very happy l am here today because few months ago, l commissioned Enwhe Road phase ll in Isoko South: now, l am in Isoko North. So, there is no local government area that would be left out in our MORE Agenda.

"In all the local government areas, we will make sure that we execute projects that will positively impact on the socio-economic lives of the people and I am very sure that this project will be commissioned by next month."

On the deployment of concrete technology in road construction, Governor Oborevwori said the state government was already using the technology in some roads, including the Uduere Road and Edo Road in Ughelli.

He said; "we are doing concrete on some of the roads because of the terrain of the area and l am satisfied with what the contractor (Obakpor Engineering Limited) has done so far on that road".

On the patronage of local contractors, he said; "sometimes, when you are awarding contracts, you must try the local base to know their level of competence and l am very impressed with the performance of local contractors in the state.

"Yes, the big contractors are also doing very well as well. As you can see, the government is patronising both local and big contractors such as Julius Berger, Levant and CCECC, but l am very happy with local contractors.

"With what l am seeing here now, the standard is very good and l am happy with what they are doing. We will continue to patronize them and other local contractors that are doing well.

"Let me also thank the Commissioner for Works in charge of Rural and Riverine Roads, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, because he had always given details of works in each of those projects whenever I call him.

"He will tell you the accurate position of each of the jobs under his ministry regarding what has been done and what is left to be done, and if you go there for inspection, what he told you is exactly what you will see."

At the bridge across the Obo River in Ogwashi-Uku, the Governor said: "I decided to make a stopover here to ascertain the level of work done so far by the company (CCECC) handling Sector C 1 of the Asaba/Ughelli road dualisation project.

"I am impressed with what the construction company is doing here. They are moving fast and they have assured us that they are going to do a lot before the rains set in."

On whether the Federal Government would refund money for the construction of the road to the State Government, Governor Oborevwori said: "when we get to that bridge, we will cross it."

He added, "even the flyover bridges that we are doing in Warri and Effurun are on federal roads. But any road constructed in Delta State, will be used by Deltans and other residents of the state as well as those coming to the state.

"So, any road that we are doing, whether federal or state, as a government, we are doing what we know that will benefit the people, that will make our people not to suffer; their wellbeing is more important to us.

"The construction company is doing its best. The Sector C2 is almost completed. This is Sector C1, the critical aspect of the project is this bridge that you are seeing now. So, this is the most difficult aspect in this road dualisation project.

"I am happy with the work that they have done so far. They are working very well. The project is running on an Irrevocable Standing Payment Order, (ISPO). So, they will not complain that they are not being paid; they get their money every month on ISPO. That will make the work move very fast."

Easter: Ukodhiko urges Nigerians to emulate Jesus Christ’s sacrificial life

Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives’ Committee on Science and Technology, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, has urged Nigerians to use the occasion of this year’s Easter celebration to imbibe the lesson of sacrifice of Jesus Christ for the progress of the nation and humanity at large.

Hon. Ukodhiko, who is the member representing Isoko North and Isoko South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, gave the charge in his Easter message on Sunday through his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Ajiri-Oghene Oreh.

According to the Isoko federal lawmaker, “today is another opportunity for us, Christians to once again honour the sacrifice and recognize the awesome power made available through Jesus Christ’s resurrection.

“Easter is an annual celebration of the love of Christ for us all, men and women and, children. Yes, Christ sacrificially accepted the responsibility, endured the shame, the punishment and, He died for our sins. His resurrection shows God’s acceptance of the payment of our sins.

“Thus, as Christians, Muslims, and people of different religions in the country, let us soberly reflect on the sacrificial life of Christ, and begin to embrace and consciously live a life of total sacrifice, fervent charity, genuine love and unity.

“We should always be kind and genuinely compassionate to one another, completely forgiving ourselves, just as in Christ God forgave us, for peaceful coexistence and progress in Nigeria and humanity at large.

“This, also is a clarion call on us in the positions of power and authority at all levels to imbibe the virtue of sacrifice as exemplified by Jesus. We must always strive to be selfless, genuine, altruistic and patriotic leaders by sacrificing too, to positively impact the lives of our people we represent and governed.”

Hon. Ukodhiko said: “there is no better time than now for Nigeria as a nation to unite, and thrive in peace. For us to truly achieve sustainable national development, then it is imperative we all live in peace, work in the spirit of togetherness and promote good neighborliness.

The former Delta Energy Commissioner commended Christians for their abiding faith and hope in God Almighty despite the daunting challenges and extreme hardships being faced in the country presently.

“Let us be encouraged that all will be well with our nation, Nigeria. Ye, let us remain hopeful as the economic hardship and the worsening insecurity being experienced in the country will soon come to an end.”

The Peoples Democratic Party’s federal lawmaker enumerated measures being carried out by him to assuage the sufferings of his people of Isoko North and Isoko South Federal Constituency he represents at the National Assembly.

He listed the provisions of palliatives, payment of monthly stipends to over 400 aged and disabled persons, sponsorship of the education of indigents students, facilitation of employment, empowerment programmes among others with a promise to do more for the people.

MARIS LECTURE: Ukodhiko, Chiemeke, Others List Causes Of 'Flight Of Talents' From Nigeria, Proffer Solutions

Member Representing Isoko Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, the Vice Chancellor, University of Delta, UNIDEL, Agbor and other experts have listed causes of flight of talents from Nigeria and proffered solutions to the challenges.

They spoke at the year 2024 edition of Maris Annual Public Service Lecture held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba on Wednesday.

According to Ukodhiko, who is the Deputy Chairman House Representatives Committee on Science and Technology, economic hardship, lack of jobs, gross unavailability of power for production, inflation and galloping exchange rates were fueling flight of talents from Nigeria.

He said that the theme of the lecture 'Flight of Talents: Navigating Nigeria's Brain Drain Predicament,' was apt considering the negative impact of brain drain on the economic development of the country.

Represented by the Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, the federal lawmaker who was the Chairman of Occasion, lauded the organisers of the annual public service lecture for the choice of the topic, and urged relevant stakeholders to work towards reversing the trend.

He said, "As an oil and gas professional, I have through my interests in the downstream and upstream sector, provided jobs for numerous Nigerians, however, the rate at which Nigerians are leaving the country in geometric proportion in search of greener pastures abroad is becoming worrisome.

"What is more pathetic about the situation which is now termed 'japa syndrome' is because the best skilled professionals from Nigeria are leaving the country thereby creating vacuums in several sectors of our economy.

"Perhaps what is fueling these 'flight of talents' from the country include economic hardship, lack of jobs, gross unavailability of power for production, inflation and galloping exchange rates, among other factors.

"The exodus of highly educated and skilled individuals not only deprives Nigeria of its human capital but also exacerbates the brain drain predicament.

"I trust that the erudite keynote speaker and the capable discussants would dissect the topic and proffer adequate solutions to this conundrum that is threatening the fabric of our existence as a nation."

In her keynote address, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delta Agbor, Professor Stella Chiemeke, said that the hemorrhaging of talents from Nigeria had reached alarming proportions threatening not only the nation's present but its very future.

"Nigeria loses over 50,000 skilled professionals annually to emigration according to United Nations Development Programme UNDP estimates.

"A study by the Development Research and Project Centre reveals that over 5,000 Nigerian doctors migrated to the UK between 2015 and 2022 and approximately 8,737 medical professionals with degrees from Nigeria are currently working in the UK.

"The World Health Organisation WHO estimates a doctor-patient ratio in Nigeria is five times worse than recommended highlighting the devastating impact on healthcare.

"The brain drain is not limited to medicine; the exodus extends to diverse sectors like engineering, finance, IT, and academia, each experiencing a steady loss of their brightest."

Prof. Chiemeke further said Nigeria could reverse the trend by addressing internal challenges such as significant investments in critical infrastructure and services, basic needs such as power, education, transport, healthcare, combating corruption and insecurity and other utilities to improve business competitiveness.

The lecture which was moderated by Dr Kemi Emina, had discussants including the Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education, Hon. Joan Onyemaechi Ada-Anioma, Chief Economic Adviser to the Delta State Governor, Dr Barry Pere-Gbe, Special Adviser on Investments, Chief Tony Amaechi, member representing Delta Central at the Delta State at the Delta State Local Government Commission, Chief Philomena Ededey Ugheminaye and Freddie Toritseju Erulu-Ede of Eruli-Ede, Eruli-Ede and Co. making insightful recommendations.

While Dr Barry Gbe saw some gains for the country in talent export through diaspora remittances, Hon Onyemaechi argued that Nigeria’s flawed value system has encouraged talents to leave the country to where they are better appreciated.

Other discussants, including Dr Amaechi, identified poor leadership and systemic failures among the causes of talents fleeing the country, even as he suggested attitudinal changes among the government and the governed.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Maris Trust Council, Chief Kenneth Olise whose address was read by Mr Olise Ifeajika, said, "In our usual tradition, we have gathered here again, during the Easter season to discuss topical issues with the sole aim of proffering solutions to the challenges of the society.

"Permit me to commend the dogged spirit of the Secretary of the Council, Comrade Fidelis Egugbo, whose strong belief in God, made it possible for this lecture to be organised annually.

"We thank all of you for your cooperation and commitment to making the society better than we met it.

"We thank our dear Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for making the Unity Hall, Government House, available for this year's lecture and for making Delta State conducive for an international discourse to take place. No doubt, Delta has become the tourist delight of all."

The acting Chairman, Delta State Civil Service Commission, Lady Rosaline Amioku was the Mother of the Day and Rev. Fr. John Konyeke, a Catholic Priest of Issele-Uku Diocese was Father of the Day at the well attended lecture.

The Maris Annual Public Service Lecture honours the memory of the late daughter of Comrade Fidelis Egugbo, a Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the Governor of Delta State.

Oborevwori Inaugurates, Tasks Environmental Marshals On Cleanliness

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has inaugurated Environmental Marshals and Supervisors with a charge to ensure cleanliness and environmental sustainability in the state.

Governor Oborevwori gave the charge at a one-day workshop for newly reconstituted Environmental Marshals and Supervisors held on Thursday at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Kingsley Emu, the Governor charged the marshals to ensure objectivity and spare no one in the fight against dirt and poor sanitation in the state.

According to him, "The responsibility that you have is a big one. There is a need for you to hit the ground running because the entire state is dirty.

"I know, I have been through your ethics and I have seen all the good things written there, but all what you do outside is the opposite. Instead of enforcing a clean environment, you are manipulating a clean environment; that's what has always happened.

"You must have integrity, and be objective; you must be trusted and must not give wrong directive. There shouldn't be any vendetta. You don't go to your neighbour's compound to deal with them when your own compound is completely dirty.

"Your job is not only to place houses on caution or sanctions but to even prevent dirt piling up. So, Mr. Chairman, the bigger responsibility you have is sensitisation. It is better to prevent a thief from stealing than catching the thief.

"If I go through your budget and I have the privilege to look at it, the greatest emphasis I will have will be on sensitisation before we start managing people.

"I want to also believe that you will involve the communities because they have lost it in terms of cleanliness. When we were growing up, if you refused to clean your environment, the community will kill a small fowl there and you will be made to pay; it doesn't happen any more.

"I think that if everybody cleans the drains in front of his house and packs the dirt, you will not find dirt in our environment or neighbourhood.

"Any dirt you find in front of any compound, they should be held liable, irrespective of who dumped them. You see people with decent vehicles dropping dirt on the way, that's a very serious offence.

"You should also create awards for performance on cleanliness since you have already grouped the marshals into zones. Let the zones with the best performance be rewarded.

"I hope you take your jobs seriously because there are more interested persons who can replace you if you do not do your jobs properly."

The Commissioner for Finance, Chief Fidelis Tilije, at the occasion, said sustainable cleanliness was the responsibility of all stakeholders and tasked the Marshals to work assiduously for the environmental sustainability of the state.

In his welcome remarks, the Chairman, State Taskforce on Environment, Chief Godspower Asiuwhu, said the workshop was geared towards providing the needed guidance for the newly recruited Environmental Marshals and Supervisors to be abreast with the rudiments of their job, especially on the field, and in line with the MORE Agenda.

Asiuwhu stated that 18,750 applications were received following advertisement for qualified persons to apply for Environmental Marshals and Supervisors, out of which, he said, 652 persons were shortlisted for further screening, adding that, at the end of the screening exercise, 315 applicants were engaged.

He remarked that the Taskforce had expanded its operations for efficiency by creating Ethiope, Sapele, Ughelli and Kwale zones.

"As Environmental Marshals and Supervisors, the aesthetic beauty of our environment must be your priority. You are expected to uphold a high level of integrity and diligence in carrying out your assignments in the field.

"Always maintain decorum in all you do and abstain from acts capable of bringing shame/ ridicule to the state government. To this end, violent activities are highly discouraged.

"Similarly, you should always be transparent with government revenues, never tamper with fines/revenues collected on behalf of the state government.

"As government recruited Environmental Marshals and Supervisors, be fully informed that any violation of the rules and regulations, as administered by the state government through this office, would not be condoned," he said.

The Taskforce Chairman added that truancy, absenteeism, fighting or disrespect for constituted authorities and lateness to work were unacceptable, pointing out that such acts of misconduct would obviously attract sanctions.

Delta Peace Building Council Deplores Okuama Killings

The Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council (DSA&PBC) has expressed uneqivocal condemnation of the killing of Nigerian Army officers and soldiers at Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the State.

The Council, at its meeting on Thursday 21st March 2024 at Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, presided over by its Chairman, Professor Sam Oyovbaire, also expressed condolences to the Nigerian Army authority, the Presidency, the families of the dead officers and soldiers, and to the Government of Delta State for the very unnecesssry colossal loss of lives.

In its resolution at the end of the meeting, the DSA & PBC commended the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for his timely responses to what it termed the very sad, complex and sorrowful situation.


In the resolution signed by Prof Sam Oyovbaire, the DSA & PBC said: "As an institution with excellent credentials of advocacy, commitment and activism for the promotion, sustenance and advancement of peace building and conflict resolution, Council re-affirms its dedication to the course and quick process of return to peace and stable livelihood in Okuama and in all other communities afflicted by this unfortunate development.

"Council empathised very strongly with the people of Okuama and all our other communities in Delta and Balyesa states the unfortunate and horrible experiences of suffering and losses."

The Council urged relevant authorities to fish out the masterminds of the heinous crime with a view to bringing them to justice.

It said: "The perptrators of the criminally bestial killing of the Army officers and soldiers must be apprehended and be duly prosecuted. There must be no hiding locations for these criminals.

"In the mean time, Council calls upon the relevant authorities especially the Nigerian Army and the Presidency to open up all access to the affected communities for uninhibited and safe flow of movement and return by those who fled their homesteads for fear of further afflictions.

"The siege to the communities should be dismantled so as to also facilitate independent observations, investigations and provision of humanitarian assistance to the needy dwellers for peaceful livelihood."

Delta North Youths pledge support for Oborevwori to combat insecurity

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youths from Delta North Senatorial District, have declared support for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration's efforts at tackling insecurity in the state.

Speaking at a youth stakeholders meeting, on Friday, in Asaba, Coordinator of the College of Youth Leaders in Delta North Senatorial District, Comrade Emeke Asiwe said youths in the Senatorial District were pleased with the performances of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in the last nine months of his administration.

The Youth leaders while commending Governor Oborevwori’s efforts at tackling insecurity and development in the state, assured that they would not be readily available to be used for vices in the state.

Asiwe further stated that the youth stakeholders meeting was convened with the objective to proffer solutions on repositioning the party vis-a-vis youth inclusion and participation in politics.

On his part, Delta North PDP Chairman Elder Moses Iduh on behalf of the party appreciated the youths for their overwhelming support in the last general election.

He reiterated Governor Sherriff Oborevwori’s commitment to youth inclusion in government and creation of opportunities for youth development and appealed to the youths to continuously support and promote the M.O.R.E Agenda of the Oborevwori administration.

OKUOMA KILLINGS: Oborevwori cautions traditional rulers against shielding suspects

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Thursday, cautioned traditional rulers in the state against shielding suspects involved in the killing of four military officers and thirteen soldiers in Okuama community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Oborevwori gave the warning when he addressed traditional rulers, on the unfortunate incident at the State Traditional Rulers' Council Secretariat in Asaba.

The Governor who said that the act was alien to the state, described it as barbaric, inhumane and unacceptable and vowed that those who committed the evil act must be made to face the full wrath of the law.

He said no kingdom should shield the perpetrators of the dastardly act, adding that Delta was governed within the tenets of the rule of law and human decency.

Oborevwori said; "On the 7th of February, we summoned the people of Okoloba and Okuoma communities in Bomadi and Ughelli South Local Government Areas including the members representing the two constituencies in the State House of Assembly, the Council Chairmen and their Presidents-General where we advised them that a lot has been happening in their area and they signed a peace accord.

"The killing of these Army Officers and soldiers came as a rude shock to us and when this thing happened, I immediately called the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defence Staff and the Army Staff because I was in Abuja. I came back and issued a press statement.

"On Monday, I went to Bomadi to meet with all the security chiefs, where we had our security council meeting and I got briefings from the Brigade Commander. In attendance was the G.O.C 6 Division Nigeria Army, Maj Gen Jamil Abdussalam and the JTF Commander, Real Admiral John Okeke.

"After the meeting, I went to Abuja to meet with Mr. President to brief him on what happened. I also went to see the Chief of Army Staff to discuss with him. I also meet with the National Security Adviser and the Inspector General of Police.

"I felt that it is also proper that I brief you people even though you may be aware. Those people who committed that evil act must face the wrath of the law. No kingdom should shield those criminals because Delta state is governed by the tenets of the law and human decency.

"We cannot tolerate that. It has never happened in this state; to kill one Lt. Colonel, two Majors, one Captain and 13 Soldiers. We need to fish out those involved.

"Do not hide or shield anybody. The Chief of Army Staff and Mr. President have assured me that innocent people will not be victimised; unless you conive with the killers of the soldiers.

"I have briefed you and make sure that you fish them out from your kingdoms. If any traditional ruler shields a criminal, that traditional ruler is inviting trouble.

"We did not bargain for this evil act but for peace, I don't want crisis. I have also received information that two other villages are boiling to fight, they should not fight, we want peace in all our communities.

"What are they fighting for? I have promised you people that I am going to do more for Deltans, so what are they fighting for? All of us are Deltans and we want development.

"For the first time almost two decades, we had peace in Warri in December and people celebrated in peace. Now we have communal crisis, why?

"I condemn it and it's unacceptable. So please my dear royal fathers let us be on the same page to fish out these people. Don't allow anybody who committed this evil act to come to your kingdoms and bring problem to your community.

"Tell us and we will hand them over to security agencies. You should not play politics with this. Don't say that the Army have taken over your village because they cannot just come to your village without getting information. But I assure you people that no innocent person will be victimised.

"Tell your people not to encourage crisis because if you do, you cannot come out of it. Some people don't have knowledge of what is happening and they start talking. What I did was to go and brief the Commander in Chief and later granted the State House Correspondents interview."

Responding, Chairman Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Majesty, Maj. Gen. Felix Mujakperuo, (retd), said that they were on same page with the Governor to ensure peace and security in the state.

While saying that the security of various kingdoms would dovetail to the security of the state and the nation, he called for a judicial panel of enquiry to unravel the immediate and remote cause of the crisis.

In a related development, Governor Oborevwori also briefed the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council where he urged them to talk to the people on the need to maintain peace across state.

He said government would not allow trouble makers to dissuade investors from coming to invest in the state, adding that sustainable peace was needed to attract investors to the state.

Chairman of the Council, Professor Sam Oyovbaire commended the Governor for his efforts at ensuring peace and security across the state, stressing that Council members support the peace building moves of the Governor.

He, therefore, appealed to communities across the state to give peace a chance for the overall growth and development of the state.

Oborevwori meets Tinubu over attacks on military

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has met with President Bola Tinubu over killing of 17 military personnel in Okuoma community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

Recall that 17 military personnel comprising a lieutenant ​colonel, two majors, one captain, and 13 soldiers were killed while on a “peacekeeping mission” in Okuoma community.

While the Delta state and federal governments have condemned the incident, promising that perpetrators would be apprehended and made to face the wrath of the law, the visit of the State Governor to the presidency was to brief of Mr President of the development.

Briefing State House correspondents after meeting behind closed-doors with President Bola Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori said that the situation is under control, assuring that there will be no more further attacks.

He said: "The two communities in question have been having issues for years and last month on the 7th of February they were invited by the state government, where the members representing the two local governments, the council chairmen and leaders of the communities, agreed to work together and they signed a peace accord.

"We condemned the killing of the officers and the soldiers because they were there on peace mission. What is happening now is something that we did not bargained for.

"I want to assure everybody that there will be no more attack on the villages if there is anyone that has happened in the past, there will be no more attack but we know that those who are culpable will be brought to book; the innocent citizens will not be attacked."

"Yesterday I was in Bomadi for security meeting to get full briefing. So some of those issues are security issues that you can't say publicly, so we are managing the situation.

"The issues of whether a place has been burnt down or people have been killed, it has happened and what we want is the way forward.

"The way forward is two ways. The people that has been killed, the officers and soldiers, we must see how we can find succur for their families and how they can be given a befitting burial, and then the community, anything that has happened in the community in the past will not happen again."

Okada Riders' Protest: Delta Govt Calls For Calm

Director-General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Chief Patrick Ukah, Monday, called for calm over protests by Okada and tricycle riders in the state capital.

Ukah in a statement made available to newsmen in Asaba, after inspecting the scene of destruction in company of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu and Head of Service, Mr Reginald Bayoko condemned the action of the protesters for the wanton destruction and vandalisation of property at the Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators Association, COMTOA Secretariat.

He said the Capital Territory Development Agency was in touch with the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, the leadership of Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators Association, COMTOA, and representatives of the Arewa community with a view to resolving issues that led to the Monday's rampage.

While appealing to residents of the capital territory for patience and cooperation, Ukah noted that Delta was known for communal living and warned that the State Government would deal decisively with anyone found to be disobeying laws of the land.

He therefore called for calm while Government deals with the issues that led to the rampage.

Member representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, has congratulated foremost pharmacist and former Delta State Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Sir Patrick Ferife on his 60th birth anniversary.

Rep. Ukodhiko moves to unite Isoko North PDP, meets with IPV leadership

AS part of moves aimed at uniting aggrieved members of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Isoko North Local Government Area, the member representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko has met with the leadership of the foremost Isoko Political Voice (IPV).

Rep. Ukodhiko in the meeting held at his Erawha-Owhe country-home on Sunday, stated that, “the unity of Isoko, including the PDP remained my foremost agenda.”

The House of Representatives member said, “my desire is to bring all members of our great party, the PDP in Isoko together, as one and united family, and I’m very happy to have all the proponents of the famous 3 over 5 group, the IPV in this reconciliation meeting.”

Stating, “the issues that caused division and anti-party activities during the elections in the party in the Local Government Area have been dealt with, and this meeting is a bigger step in the direction of mending all broken fences in the Isoko North PDP.

“Today’s meeting is part of an ongoing peace-building that is aimed at uniting all members of the People Democratic Party, PDP family in Isoko North Local Government Area.

Rep. Ukodhiko bags NIDSUG Excellence Award

MEMBER representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, on Thursday, was honored with an Excellence Award by the Niger Delta Students Union Government (NIDSUG) led by Comrade Scott Ogunseri for his support to the students’ community.

The award ceremony took place during the NIDSUG’s Enhancing Student’s Participation in Politics and Leadership Programme that was held at the Dennis Osabebay University, Asaba, Delta State.

In his speech, Rep. Ukodhiko represented by former President of Student Union Government of the University of Benin, Comr. Eniwake Orogun, said, the award was very significant as it would further spur him in doing more to ensure students of Isoko origin in particular enjoy quality education which remained his top priority.

He stated that, he enrolled 400 students of Isoko North and Isoko South Local Government Areas for the 2024 Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) just as he has been paying the school fees of many indigent students of the Constituency.

The House of Representatives member revealed he has initiated another scheme to reward academic excellence for the highest scorers in the 2024 UTME as they would be offered full tuition fee scholarships in private universities in the country .

The Isoko Federal lawmaker said since he was sworn-in as a member of the Federal House of Representatives, he has sponsored five bills including the bill for the establishment of a Federal University of Agriculture, and the University Teaching Hospital which recently passed through second reading.

As a way alleviating the suffering of the hardship been faced, Hon Ukodhiko said he has commenced a monthly revolving five thousand Naira financial assistance scheme for the indigent and less-privileged persons of his Constituency, saying, the first batch of payment for February have been made to 240 persons.

He stated, he has also lined-up a series of empowerment programmes that are aimed at reducing unemployment in Isoko-nation as the programmes would see to the training of many youths and women in various crafts, businesses just as they would be empowered afterwards

HARDSHIP: Delta approves over N674 million for students' bursary

... to equip General Hospitals with N3 billion

Delta State Executive Council, (EXCO), Wednesday, approved the payment of over N674,000,000 as bursary to students of its origin for the 2022/2023 academic session.

The approval was part of the decisions reached at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Briefing journalists at the end of the meeting, the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, said Exco also approved phase two procurement of medical equipment for 20 general hospitals across the state.

He listed the hospitals to include; General hospitals at Obiaruku, Abraka, Ekpan, Owa-Alero, Okwe, Koko, Orerokpe, Otu-Jeremi, Burutu, Abavo, Owa-Oyibu, Issele-Uku, Ibusa, Aviara, Onicha-Olona, Ofagbe, Aboh, Ashaka, Kiagbodo and Eku Baptist Government Hospital.

Osuoza, who was flanked by the Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), Mr. Charles Aniagwu, his Higher Education counterpart, Prof Nyerovwo Tonukari, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, said Exco also approved compensation for the construction of flyover at Enerhen Junction to First Marine Gate.

He said: "We just finished EXCO meeting and some approvals have been given to some vital projects.

"The EXCO has approved the release of funds for 2022/2023 payment of Students Assistance Scheme, otherwise known as Bursary.

"There is approval for the upward review of the contract for the procurement of medical equipment at 20 General Hospitals in Delta State.

"There is an upward variation of the contract for the remodeling of the uncompleted library building of the Basic Clinical building for the College of Health Sciences, Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area.

"There is also approval for the compensation of buildings that will be affected by the construction of the flyover bridge from Enerhen Junction, Effurun to Marine Gate, Warri in Uwvie and Warri South local government areas, respectively."

Explaining further on the bursary payment, the Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), Mr Charles Aniagwu said; "on the hardship in the land, the reason the Governor is very much interested in this is because when parents are looking for money, they need the money to take care of their children, pay school fees and provide basic necessities.

"As a government, we believe that if we are able to give some funds to these students, that way we have also been able to help their parents.

"Any student that you make this money available to now, at least, for that month and maybe the next, will not ask his or her parents for money to buy one book or feed.

"So, we are not just approving the bursary for our students for nothing. If we are able to reach out to as many as over 30,100 students of Delta State origin, you will know the number of households the government has been able to reach out to through this form of palliative.

"As an administration, you will notice a number of things we have mentioned here that we are doing in the health sector. It is also with a view to ensuring that our people have access to medical facilities and that they are able to reach out.

"Once we are able to put the hospitals in good shape and they are functional, it means that the funds that are available to you, even when we did not give it to you by cash, that as a government, we have also provided in that area.

"If we give you money and the hospitals are not functional, you will discover that you are not going to eat the money. After all, they say the value of money is what money can buy.

"So, we are providing you those things that you need money to buy; helping you solve that challenge, so that, at the end of the day, we are mitigating the excruciating conditions that we have found ourselves in.

"All the steps being taken by the Oborevwori-led administration is with a view to making life much more livable for our people.

"That we are ensuring that you have good roads, students have schools to go to, that our people have good hospitals and conversion of more schools to universities to ensure that our people have access to more higher education; all of them is to make life much more livable."

On gully erosion ravaging parts of the state capital, Aniagwu, said the state government was working on addressing the challenges posed by the 1.8km meters gully erosion site on the Marble Hill Road to Vanguard and NNPC, Asaba, and other sites across the state.

He said over N2 billion was approved by EXCO for the payment of compensation on the flyover project from Enerhen to Marine Gate, Warri, and gave assurance that the present administration would continue to take proactive steps to mitigate the plight of Deltans.

On his part, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, said over N3 billion was approved for the equipment of 20 General Hospitals across the state. He also said
there is a standing approval for immediate replacement of essential workers lost to brain drain, adding that the state government was committed to ensuring the health of Deltans.


The State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof Nyerovwo Tonukari, said over N674 million would be paid to 30,116 students of the state origin drawn from 195 institutions across the country for the 2022/2023 bursary, adding that processes for the payment of 2023/2024 has also began.

Delta Govt. Committed to Universal Health Coverage - Onojaeme

Delta State Commissioner for health on Wednesday commended the governor for his efforts towards providing quality and affordable healthcare for Deltans by improving healthcare services across, especially with the state the upgrade of facilities at various hospitals and primary healthcare centers.

Dr Onojaeme stated this during a parley with media practitioners at his office in Asaba, who were in ministry to identify with him and appreciate him for the current transformation going on in the ministry of health.

He added that the ministry has been working for the good of Deltans and with the support of the governor that gave approval for various reforms, including recruitment of personnel to fill vacancies in various hospitals, a lot of the challenges facing the ministry will be addressed.

“Our major challenge is human resource for health because of the japa syndrome. We have a challenge in our system; for instance, if employ like 60 workers in march and by September you have about 35 remaining which is grossly inadequate to meet the demands of the hospitals, but we are doing our best to discourage people from leaving.

“The governor has issued a standing order to replace all staff members who have resigned as a result of the current japa syndrome in hospitals and other health facilities.

“His Excellency has also approved the renovation and upgrade of facilities in over 200 of our primary health centers in the state to meet the needs of people especially in rural communities,” Dr Onojaeme added.

On welfare for health workers in the state, the commissioner stated that the government is working on improving the take home pay for health workers in order to encourage them in staying back in the country as healthcare workers across the country continue to migrate abroad.

“Currently, we are working on building 2 ultra modern lecture theatres in each of the colleges of nursing and midwifery to address the challenges facing students in these schools

On addressing the challenges of accommodation in the colleges of nursing and midwifery, the commissioner stated that government is open to partnership between the private sector in construction of hostel accommodation that will solve accommodation problem in the colleges.

Dr Onojaeme also confirmed that the free maternal and child care program is still ongoing, but as usual, lack of human resource which is an issue across the country is also affecting the policy but the governor has mandated the ministry to put in place policies that will help retain health care workers in the state.

Oborevwori tasks varsities on research for national devt.

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Tuesday, charged Nigerian universities to significantly enhance their efforts in viable research and innovation to enable them proffer solutions to the myriad of challenges bedeviling the country.

Governor Oborevwori gave the charge when he received on a courtesy visit, the Management of Federal University of Petroleum Resources, (FUPRE), Ugbomro, led by its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, at Government House, Asaba.

The Governor, who commended FUPRE for their ingenuity, said his administration would continue to support education in the state as a cardinal point of his MORE Agenda.

He added that it was only when universities embark on more relevant research that they would be able to solve the peculiar challenges facing the nation, especially in their host states.

He said: "As a university, you are doing very well, but one thing I must tell you today, is to encourage the university to continue to do more relevant research.

"You find out that universities these days don't do enough research. When you research, you will be able to do more things, just like you said that you people helped to clean up a polluted village. This was done because you are doing relevant research.

"As a specialised institution, there is a lot to gain from the university. So, I encourage you to go into more relevant research."

Governor Oborevwori said that with the number of functional universities in the state, Delta was fast becoming a hub for education in the country, assuring that his administration would continue to support the growth and development of education in the state.

"I believe in education, and, like I said few days ago, you may acquire everything on this earth, those things may go but education will remain with you till death.

"The best legacy you can give to your children is education. We want to encourage our children to focus on education. You can see that a lot of our children are always enrolling to go into these universities.

"What I have promised Deltans is that I will continue to support anything that will impact the state and education is one of them.

"You have made some requests about the road leading to the main gate of the university. The Commissioner for Works ( Rural and Riverine) would go and see how they can scope that road immediately."

Earlier, Professor Rim-Rukeh had, on behalf of the university, congratulated Governor Oborevwori on his electoral victory and subsequent affirmation by the judiciary.

He said the university was established in 2007 with its first set of students admitted in 2008, adding that the student population of the University had since grown to over 10,000.

The Vice-Chancellor also said the university had established several centres of excellence and contributed immensely to environmental reclaimation and sustainability, especially in the oil pollution- affected community of Obi-Ayagha in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

He assured the Governor of the university’s commitment to excellence in research and innovation for national development and training of Niger Delta Youths on various skills that would make them employable.

Saying it would also “foster meaningful interactions that promote the commercialization of groundbreaking Nigerian research; to support the growth of our indigenous manufacturing sector through STI; and to encourage robust collaboration among our research institutions.

“These goals are not just commendable; they are essential steps towards realizing the vision laid out in the National Science, Technology, and Innovation Roadmap 2030 and Presidential Executive Order No. 5.

“Let me assure all STI stakeholders that the House of Representatives will give its legislative nod to every measure that will advance and make the nation’s STI viable.

On this note, I urge all stakeholders to work closely with the legislative Committees with bias on STI particularly the House Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation in unlocking the powers of 10th National Assembly in driving the nation’s STI.” Ukodhiko added.

Oborevwori felicitates Obi of Owa at 86

Delta State Governor of Delta, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated the Obi of Owa Kingdom, HRM Obi (Dr) Emmanuel Efeizomor II, OON, on his 86 birth anniversary.

Governor Oborevwori in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba, described the renowned monarch as "one of Delta's long standing traditional rulers with outstanding accomplishments in leadership".

He said that through the years, Obi Efeizomor had made significant contributions to the expansion and advancement of Owa kingdom and Delta State at large.

The Governor said: "Obi Efeizomor has remained a prominent figure, a respected ruler, an exemplar, and the guardian of the customs and culture of the Owa people.

"Under your leadership, the Owa kingdom has seen an incredible turnaround in the areas of infrastructure and human capital development.

Oborevwori celebrates Austine Ayemidejor at 63

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated former Special Project Director, Asaba International Airport, Mr Austine Ayemidejor, as he clocks 63 years on March 9.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori said Ayemidejor was a political strategist and administrator who made significant contributions to the state's public service.

In particular, he expressed gratitude to Ayemidejor for his contribution to the recent, successful concessioning of the Asaba International Airport and its management.

The governor stated that Ayemidejor had shown exceptional service to the state in his roles as civil commissioner, secretary to the Sapele Local Government Council, and supervisory councillor.

As he joined the league of elders in teaching the next generation of youngsters in politics and business, he expressed hope that Ayemidejor's greatest days were yet ahead of him.

"I extend my congratulations to Mr. Austine Ayemidejor, a devout and exceptionally patriotic man, on his 63rd birthday on behalf of my family, the government, and the people of Delta. He is an excellent son of Sapele and Delta.

"You have made a significant contribution to the expansion and development of the Asaba International Airport as well as to the recent successful concessioning of the airport in your capacity as Special Project Director".

Ukodhiko partners Delta Govt on Soft-Skills training of 400 Isoko young women

Member representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, on Tuesday, partnered Delta State Government on the training of over 400 young women in the constituency with soft skills.

The Soft-Skills training organized by the State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Service and Girl’s Child Development headed by the Commissioner, Hon. Orode Uduaghan was held at the Otobo Hall of Isoko South Local Government Council in Oleh.

The training had in attendance, wife of the State Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, represented by Dr Evelyn Aluta, Executive Assistant to the State Governor on Women Mobilization, Barr. Mary Erijo, wife of the member representing Isoko North Constituency, Mr Abigail Odior, her Isoko South Constituency 1 counterpart, Mr Bino.

Other were the wife of the Chairman, Delta State Hospital Management Board, Mrs Princess Oweh, Legislative aides to the member representing Isoko Federal Constituency, Mrs Joy Egbo among others.

Hon. Ukodhiko, represented by Ms Joan Omuyeh, commended the Commissioner in-charged of the Ministry, Hon Uduaghan for her passion, vision, and commitment to the economic empowerment of the young women in the State.

According to the House of Representatives member, “ the program is highly commendable as it is aimed at empowering our young women in our constituency with relevant skills for self-reliance and improved human capital development.

“I will not fail to commend the gender-friendly and empowerment-oriented Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for his support to this laudable progressive programme.

According to the Humanitarian Affairs and Girl-Child Commissioner, “We all need all sorts of incomes in our lives. In this training, you will be taught on how to secure jobs and improve works through soft skills.

In her goodwill message, Mrs Oborevwori, speaking through Dr Aluta stated, “Skills development is a life changer”, stressing that skills are very relevant, skilled worker lives with confidence and assurance.

She urged the young-women to create a life for themselves and their families, saying they would benefits immensely from the soft skills training when they are committed.

Rep Ukodhiko Urges Christians to Give Thanks to God

Member representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, Sunday, urged Christians in Nigeria to cultivate the habit of thanking God always no matter the circumstances being experienced.

According to the House of Representatives member, it is very important for every Christians to always give thanks to God in great things and little things.

Ukodhiko gave the admonition on Sunday during the ‘Special Thanksgiving Service’ of the Redeemed Christain Church of God (RCCG), Everlasting Father Assembly, Erawha-Owhe in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.

He said, “It is good and, also beneficial to always give to God Almighty in order for us Christians to experience opened doors of blessings and grace.

“I know our faith and trust are in God, our Heavenly Father. But, it is imperative we should cultivate the habit of thanking God always, and stop the habit of complaining always.

“As your representative at Federal House of Representatives in Abuja, I feel your pulses, your pains, and I am assuring you all of hope of everything good will come.

“There are couple of things we have done which included the specialized agricultural empowerment for 144 constituents, distributions of palliatives during and after the Yuletide

Also, various educational scholarship schemes have given, and we are still doing more including payment of monthly stipends to hundreds of our Constituents and families in Isoko North and Isoko South in order to ameliorate the present sufferings,

“We are still rolling out more empowerment packages and schemes for our people. Some of our unemployed graduates are being given employments in private companies and others in Government’s establishments, and many more youths will be empowered very soon.” Ukodhiko assured.

Oborevwori committed to development of Delta rural communities - Agbi

The Special Adviser on Project Monitoring/Audit Engr. Goodnews Agbi, said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, was committed to the development of Delta rural communities.

Dr. Agbi, stated this yesterday while inspecting ongoing construction works at the 500 meters Orere bridge in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

"In line with his M.O.R.E Agenda, Governor Oborevwori wants Deltans to get the best from his administration, everywhere you go, jobs are being executed in the state and that's one of the reasons he has to go and bring Julius Berger to come and work in the state".

"But when we now see Nigerians doing this kind of job which is in line with the M.O.R.E Agenda, I believe that more of the Nigerians should be encouraged especially Deltans".

He stressed on the Governor's commitment to encouraged indigenous contactors saying, "And am sure that in one of those places the Governor went to inspect he said that he wants to encourage Deltans to also work and this is an example of a Deltan doing a job that is fantastic".

He also commended the contractor handling the project Obakpor Engineering Limited for doing a good job.

"The job is good anybody that come and look at this place whether you are engineer or none engineer you will be impressed, even all the bridges done in other states even inter-city bridges and so forth they are not better than this, Agbi stated".

"If Nigerian contractors, Nigeria consultants and engineers can perform this feat, Nigeria is on the part of greatness".

Agbi, therefore charged every indigenous contractor to strive hard to put up its best to align with the M.O.R.E Agenda of the Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

Other projects inspected include, ongoing Construction of Oreh Road before Isoko junction in Ughelli North Local Government Area and ongoing construction of 1 kilometer Edo Road from Ughelli- Agbarotor road linking Isoko road in Otovwodo, Ughelli North Local Government Area.

Oborevwori felicitates Ebonyi Governor, Nwifuru at 49

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated his Ebonyi counterpart, Rt. Francis Nwifuru on his 49th birth anniversary on February 25.

COURT CASES: Oborevwori appreciates Church leaders for prayers

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has expressed appreciation to Church leaders for their prayers, leading to his survival of 38 court cases from pre-election to post election cases to the Supreme Court.

Governor Oborevwori stated this on Saturday at the wedding ceremony of Mr and Mrs Ovoke Akpobasa held at Light of Christ Ministry, Sapele.

He described the groom as a son to him and congratulated him and his wife on their successful marriage ceremony.

Oborevwori who said he was Governor for all Deltans, said he wasn't bothered about the size of the church when he was told, stressing that one could serve God anywhere.

The Governor who was accompanied by his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori and top government functionaries, said: "I want to thank all the great men of God that stood firm praying for me to survive 38 cases. It was indeed the grace of God."

Chairman of the occasion and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC, Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi described Governor Oborevwori as people friendly and grassrooted leader.

Chief Obiuwevbi expressed joy at the presence of the Governor at the event and said, "this is the first time I am seeing a Governor that is so grassrooted, and attending ceremonies.

"I am therefore led by God Almighty to pray for the Governor, Your Excellency, by the authority of the Lord you serve, it shall be well with you, receive mercy, receive more opportunities and grace, the Lord will be gracious to you."

He commended the newly weds for being obedient to their parents, saying coming together as couple is a thing of joy to their parents and honouring parents is a biblical injunction.

He charged them to continue to love each other, saying that the marriage institution was a place of continuous learning, but that they must have love and tolerance for each other.

Faculty Relocation: DSUST Vice-Chancellor calls for calm

The Vice-Chancellor of the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, Professor Jacob Oboreh has called for calm and understanding amidst raging crisis over relocation of Faculty of Management Sciences from Ozoro to Orerokpe.

Prof. Oboreh in a statement, Wednesday, in Ozoro, said the relocation of the Faculty of Management Sciences from Ozoro to Orerokpe was intended to open up more rapid development in the University of Science and Technology.

According to him, 12 new programmes in the existing faculties will be created immediately in the area of science and technology, adding that the programmes being relocated will not in anyway be a set back to the University.

"In addition to these new 12 programmes, three faculties of Basic Medical Sciences, Pharmacy and Health Sciences have been approved for the university by the Governor

"The Isoko and Ozoro people should accept the relocation in good faith and let me assure all concerned that we will give equal opportunities to all Deltans in terms of admission and other considerations.

"The Isoko people who are major stakeholders in the University have met with the Governor and he has opened up his plans for the rapid development of the University.

"I therefore call on all our people to be calm and allow the Governor to unfold his massive development plans for our nascent University and the overall educational sector in our state."

Oborevwori advancing opportunities in rural communities through road devt - Aniagwu

Delta State Commissioner for Works, (Rural and Riverine Roads), Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Tuesday, said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was committed to the provision of opportunities and meaningful development for all through road construction for rural dwellers across the state.

Aniagwu disclosed this in an interview with journalists after inspection of ongoing construction of Nsukwa - Umute - Adonte Road in Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state.

He commended the contractor and engineers in the ministry for the effective supervision of the project.

According to Aniagwu, “the entire stretch of the road is 7.5km but we are starting with the Phase 1 which is about 3.2km”.

"The road comprises of upland and swampy areas, with 7.3 pavement width and it is part of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s desire to open up communities and build possibilities of communal inter connectivity.

"You do know that as part of his 4-point Agenda there is opportunities for all and meaningful development. This project speaks specifically to those two aspects of the Governor's MORE agenda.

"Despite the fact that this a very swampy area, Governor Oborevwori is not just looking out for only those in the cities, he also has eyes for those living in rural communities believing that they also contribute to the economy of our dear state.

"This road is very vital to these communities around this corridor and I can tell you that this road was awarded in November 2023 and work is progressing steadily."

The Works Commissioner who was flanked by the Director of Rural Roads, Engr Solomon Aghagba lauded the contractor for works done so far and directed that the contractor must adhere to the road design.

"From what we are seeing, the contractor is making a whole lot of progress even without any advanced payment, he has also not raised any certificate.

"What you are seeing here is the commitment of some of our indigenous contractors. We have continued to encouraged our indigenous contractors to grow.

"With the kind of work being done here such as escavation of unsuitable surface materials and the dredging of sharp sand to fill some areas that are likely to have underground water, you could see that our indigenous contractors are also making a whole lot of progress and that's the desire of government to encourage them so that going forward they can compete favourably with their international counterparts.

"We are pleased with what we have seen and we are hoping that in the course of 2024, that this particular project will be realised because the Governor is desirous of getting the job completed in good time." Aniagwu stated.

Rep Ukodhiko felicitates Uduaghan, wife on 36th marriage anniversary

Member representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, has felicitated with former Delta Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and his wife, Dame Roli on their thirty-sixth marriage anniversary.

NUC approves three more faculties for Delta 'Varsity-Oborevwori

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Tuesday, confirmed that the National Universities Commission, (NUC), has approved the establishment of three more faculties for the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro.

Governor Oborevwori announced the NUC's approval for the establishment of the Faculties of Basic Medical Sciences, Pharmacy, and Health Sciences, when he received on a solidarity and congratulatory visit, a delegation of leaders and traditional rulers from Isoko nation, at Government House, Asaba.

The Governor thanked the Isoko nation for their support and for being worthy in-laws, assuring that his administration would continue to do everything within its powers to develop all parts of the state.

"I appreciate this visit because it is long overdue. I know the support that you people gave to me and I made some promises that I am still keeping till today. The Chief of Staff was the first person I appointed from Isoko nation. I have given key appointments to the Isoko nation.

"I am happy that you have come to congratulate me on our victory at the Supreme Court. You have also come with some requests. I have taken note of all the requests you made. Like I promised, I am going to be Governor for all Deltans and I am doing just that.

"We are doing our best. If you drive through the Oleh Roundabout, you will smile because it has changed. We need unity and peace in Delta State."

Governor Oborevwori assured that he would not do anything to undermine the Isoko people, especially in the area of education.

He said the three new faculties approved by the NUC for the University reflected his desire to ensure that Isoko nation continued to enjoy a pride of place in the delivery of his administration's MORE Agenda.

He said he had also resolved the issues surrounding the Isoko Development Union (IDU) - Youth Wing.

Earlier, the President of the Isoko Development Union, IDU, Professor Chris Akpotu, said the delegation visited to congratulate the Governor on his victory at the Supreme Court and to also discuss further areas for Isoko development.

"We are here to visit you as our very great in-law and to congratulate you on your tortuous journey from the election to the tribunal and up to the Supreme Court.

"We appreciate your political benevolence in appointing our illustrious sons and daughters into political positions", Akpotu said.

He commended Governor Oborovweri for the ongoing works on the Ughelli - Asaba road and urged him to facilitate the completion of the Isoko Circular road, particularly the Ofagbe - Ovrode Road and the reconstruction of Uzere - Asaba-Ase Road and Olomoro - Igbide Road.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the visit, Professor Akpotu said that many issues were discussed in relation to the present concerns in Isoko nation and "everything is in the right shape; it's an ongoing discussion."

Also speaking, the member representing Isoko North, Isoko South Federal Constituency, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, said he would collaborate with the State Government to provide a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
