CHAPTER FORTY EIGHT


Joel walked to the front pew with Chidiebube walking beside him. He was clad in his full camouflage likewise Ebube. It was the wedding day and the church was filled to the brim with people, Captain was getting married.


"What kind of a person wears his soldier uniform on his wedding day?" a black skinny woman asked the lady sitting beside her.


"He is a soldier, a Captain in fact, so he needs to" the young lady who should be in her late 20s replied.


"I just love the humility of the Captain, despite his affluence and societal status, people of different background are here for his wedding. other people would have termed it " Strictly based on invitation" the old Lady sneered.


"His wife is from the ghetto na, not even rich. aaaah, who doesn't know Melody in our neighborhood that runs errands for people" the younger lady exclaimed.


"Tell me something" the older lady said hitting the other lady's lap softly.


"Yes ooo, that's why i came for this wedding, let me see if i can attract a Rich soldier the same way she did. Omo see fine fine soldiers kai" she looked towards the 5 pews at the back fully occupied by soldiers all clad in their camouflage.





Melody walked into the church, her wedding gown shinning and shimmering as she walked. She held firmly to her chest a beautiful red and white flower. With a veil covering her face, she slowly walked to the alter while her bridesmaid held the tail of her wedding gown up, people smiled admiringly at her. She got to the alter and Met Joel already there, she smiled at him and stood before him. Her bridesmaid left her and went to sit at the front pew with Chidiebube who was also the groom's man.


The priest walked to them with a Bible and an alter boy followed quickly with a microphone.


"Mr Joel Ikenna Clifford, you will repeat after me and call your name where necessary" the priest said to Joel who nodded nervously.


"I call upon you all present, as I Joel Ikenna Clifford take thee Melody Oluwatosin Obafemi as my lovely wife, to love and to cherish, in sickness and in health, till death do us part" Joel completed with a shaking lips.


"Miss Melody, you will do the same and call out your name where necessary" the priest said to Melody who nodded too.


"I call upon you all present, as I Melody Oluwatosin Obafemi take thee Joel Ikenna Clifford as my lovely husband, to love and to cherish, in sickness and in health, till de...ath do us p.a..rt" she stuttered the last part as tears started pouring, she sniffed.


"You can unveil her face now" the priest said to Joel. He lifted the veil and wiped her tears with his handkerchief. "Be careful Bambi, you will ruin your beautiful face" he chuckled slightly, the tears poured the more.


The priest blessed the ring and it was exchanged, Joel kept wiping Melody's face with his handkerchief.


"Congratulations, you are now a couple" the priest announced. People clapped and cheered. The service finally came to an end and the reception proper began. Melody changed into a long blue off shoulder gown that has a slit running from her knee to her ankle while Joel never removed his camouflage.








The couple entered their hotel room where Joel had booked for the night. Melody let out a breathe as she sat down on the bed and unbuckled her shoe pulling it off her legs. "Am so tired" she yawned.


"Why won't you be tired? with the way you danced and twisted your body as if you were bitten by a group of soldier ants" he laughed loudly throwing his head backwards.


"Look at kettle calling pot black, you that was dancing like an old man, your dance steps were just so archaic, like an old chief priest we have in my village, that's the way he normally moves his body before starting his incarnations" Melody hissed and laughed, she stripped off her gown leaving just her bra and black tight.


"You know i have killer moves, Bambi, you are just jealous" he danced briefly and winked at her.


"Eeeew, bad dancer" she chuckled walking into the bathroom. After few minutes, she came out, a towel tied around her chest.


"Are you done already?" Joel asked her, surprised.


"Noooo, maybe i should just carry foam and sleep inside there" she sneered.


"Aaaah, Madam single bone, take it easy abeg, don't eat me raw" he walked to the bathroom too.


Melody wore a transparent night gown and hurriedly climbed the bed covering herself with the duvet. Joel came out from the bathroom unclad, she covered her face and told him to cover himself up. Joel chuckled and joined her in bed still unclad.

He wrapped his hands around her and kissed her fore head. "So you are finally mine, all these your assets are now mine, choi," he laughed.


"Werey" Melody hissed.


"Thank you" Joel replied, bent down and kissed her, she squirmed and kissed him back. He cupped her right breast and gave it a soft squeeze, she moaned. He pulled her nighty completely and slowly parted her legs, their lips still locked in a deep kiss. He took one nipple in his mouth and sucked, flicking it with his tongue, she moaned again.


"Are you ready for this Bambi?" Joel asked looking at her.


"What kind of a man are you? after taking me to mount Hebron, you are now asking me question, ogbeni continue jooore" she eyed him.


He chuckled and kissed her "I love you Bambi" he cooed

"I love you too, Captain" Melody replied with a smile.

CHAPTER FOURTY FIVE


SIX MONTHS LATER


It was amazing to Joel how time flew over the months. The killer had been killed and so was the Barrister, but still, Joel felt empty without Melody. She had been in the hospital for the past six months, Joel always paid her visits though. His car came to a halt in the car garage of the hospital. He entered into the hospital replying greetings from the nurses, yes, he had become a constant visitor that they all greet him with smiles whenever he came. He opened the door and looked at Melody for a while before going in fully making sure he closed the door.


"Bambi, how are you doing today?" he asked kissing her forehead, he carressed her hair, they had loosened her weaving leaving her with her natural hair.


"Do you like it here?, please come let's go home, i have missed you so much" he said again still carressing her hair. "I miss you Bambi, i can't even stay for a minute without thinking about you" he said yet again. The monitor beeped and then continued beeping fast. Joel stood up immediatly and ran to get the doctor, few minutes after, he came back with the doctor and a nurse. The doctor checked Melody's pulse and looked at the screen of the monitor checking for her heartbeat, the monitor stopped beating and the screen went blank, the doctor shook his head sadly.


"She is dead, am sorry" he said to Joel with a sigh.


"Dead what? which one is dead? doctor please stop joking, she is probably sleeping or something, but she is not dead, my Melody can not die when she knows she is my life" Joel said with a chuckle and sadness filled eyes.


"She is dead, the monitor has gone blank because there is no heartbeat anymore. We will have to remove the oxygen now and also take her to the morgue" the doctor squeezed Joel's shoulder and signaled the nurse to remove the oxygen.


"Morgue? who do you want to take to the morgue? please stop joking" Joel muttered, the tears gathered blinding him.


"That's the only thing we can do" the doctor replied looking at the nurse who had successfully removed the oxygen and was walking towards the monitor.


"Bambi, please don't do this to me, you want to leave me sad? please don't go, you are my better half, don't you want to grow old with me? don't you want to have children for me?, please, biko, don't leave me" Joel cried, the tears started pouring like rain.


"Take heart man" the doctor consoled him. Just then, the nurse screamed "Doc, she moved a finger right now" she stared at Joel and the doctor.


Joel and the doctor stared at Melody's right hand, Joel hoped it was true and pleaded with Melody in his mind to do it again. She moved her finger again and Joel smiled.


The monitor started beeping again but very low. "Get me the defibrillator" the doctor said to the nurse.


"Please get the fucking defibrillator" Joel screamed at the nurse who to him looked like she wasn't fast enough.


"123, jack" the doctor hit her chest, nothing happened, he repeated the procedure three times and on the third attempt, the monitor started beeping audibly, Joel looked at Melody, she moved a finger again, he rushed towards her, she was crying with her eyes closed.


"My Melody, please stay with me, you are all that i have got" he spoke tenderly carressing her hand, his head bent on the bed, beside her. Melody's eyes slowly flew open, she closed it and slowly opened it again, trying to get acquainted with the illuminated room.


"She is awake" the nurse squealed. Joel shot his head up immediatly and wiped his tears.


"Bambi" he slowly called out to Melody who still had a confused look on her face.


"She is really a strong woman, she has a very strong will to live" the doctor said, he was surprised.


"Thank you so much, for coming back to me" Joel said hugging her immediately.


"Okay, Captain, you will need to let her rest now, i advise you go get her a change of clothes and food to eat, she just survived a great ordeal" the doctor said slowly helping Joel up.


"Bambi, am coming back, wait for me, don't go anywhere again" he said to Melody who looked at him like he was insane.

He rushed out of the hospital immediately with smiles plastered on his face.






Am sorry ooo, our light got spoilt, but it has been fixed now. the story will be finished before this week runs out. Thank you all for your care and support.
