Thank you Owokunle for your enquiry. The Australian Government is going through an overhaul of its immigration system, chances are if you apply for an offshore independent skilled migration visa (176) it will be rejected. After reading through, i can recommend two options for you and your family to migrate to Australia. 1) All type of engineers are in demand in Australia. I believe your husband has a good chance of securing employment here, if he has gained a number of years of work experience in his field. If this is the case, let him start applying for jobs in Australia first before worrying about visas, in most cases an employer can sort out his visa for him and his family. A good site to find employment is www.seek.com.au. When applying for jobs, its a good idea to focus more on the regional parts of the country as theres more skill shortage in those areas. Employer sponsored migration is the easiest way in to work check out http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/sbs/ for the 457 visas. 2) Another option which you and your family may like to take is to first come to Australia as a student, you can study masters in Accounting or your husband can study a masters course in engineering, most overseas students who come here to study are successful in gaining their permeanent residence. The whole family can come to Australia on a student visa and if any of you is undertaking a Masters course the other is allowed to work full time to ease financial pressure. I hope this helps ![]() |
Hello Owokunle, Feel free to ask your question in this forum and i will gladly answer it. |
Accountants are in demand in Australia, especially in regional areas. However it may be difficult to get an Accounting job here without local knowledge of the accounting system here. Are you CPA or CA qualified? If not I would recommend you undertake a Masters of Accounting program here in Australia. The job market is very competitive. For general immigration information check www.immi.gov.au. The Australian high commission in Nigeria does not take or process visa applications, your best bet would be to post your application to South Africa for processing. Best of luck. ![]() |
I have lived in Australia for years now and may be able to provide you with general information. First of all, what is your profession? Getting a visa to Australia is not easy, if your skills are currently in demand, you stand a better chance. |
A big thanks to everyone for contributing their advice to my predicament. It is not easy to be with another nationality, especially if you are lady. The area i live in canada, there arent many nigerians. I guess i am tired of being an outsider and having someone else's culture pushed on me. I live with my eriterian boyfriend and there is always one eriterian community meeting after another in our home, the eriterian ladies come into my home and open my fridge, enter my bedroom and basically show me no respect in MY own home. And i cant complain because apparently this is their culture. i discussed with my boyfriend how i feel and he says thats he sees no problem. I am as good as a wall paper, no one takes note of me when they are all gathered, worse of all they speak their language. I love my boyfriend but how can I marry a man that does not accept my culture and refuses to leave his enclave. Even though i have not met the igbo guy, i feel so connected with him already. He really wishes to visit me when he finish his 2nd Masters in UK, so far he seems to fit my bill and i am falling deeply inlove with him. Though we havent met we have talked about family, marriage etc already. He has not interfered with my relationship with my eriterian man. A small voice in me keeps telling me the igbo man is the one for me, that he is the solution. My heart is already with the igbo boy but recently he is always busy, we use to chat every two days but now we chat once or twice a week. I always feel funny when a guy start saying he is busy ooooo, so i am even more confused than ever. By the way, overall my Eriterian man treats me like an egg, he is very loving and caring, it is cultural issues that are creating our problems. |
My fellow nairalanders, I am a nigerian lady based in Canada. I have been in a relationship with a wonderful Eriterian man for four years. We get along great on the surface, however we differ alot on many other issues. He is not interested in learning about my culture but he expects that i learn his, eat their local food and attend their community function and behave like a proper Eriterian lady. Also he says if we ever marry i must return with him to his country. But i myself i have plans to return to naija eventually. I have tried to involve him in the nigerian community but he is not interested. He even said if we have kids, he does not want his children to behave like nigerians. I was really confused about all this, Then recently i met an igbo guy online who is based in the UK, we have been talking for few months and now i have develop some feelings for him. He says he wants a future with me, even when he holidays in Nigeria he calls me from there. He says he will love to visit me when he is opportuned. But we have never met. However by talking to him i can see that we share similar values and he says he will return to nigeria in the near future, which is also my intention, I told my eriterian boyfriend about this guy and he is not happy. I dont know if i should give this new guy a chance and maybe it is for real or stick to my current boyfriend even though i am not sure it will last. I am also not sure if this igbo guy is serious either, i am really confused. |
