#6: Prostitution
Every industry runs on a scale of low to high end. And the sex industry is no different. There's a less than flattering stereotype of sex workers on street corners. But that's a world away from the life of a high end escort.

Despite the association with sex work, escorts don't just get down and dirty, they can also literally just escort as in accompany some rich dude to a fancy event or just out for a date. But of course the fee goes up if the night ends in you know, the bedroom. For their services, escorts can make up to $5,500 an hour. But that's not all just take home money.

There's a lot that goes to keeping up a polished appearance and to an agency also known as a procurer, AKA an equally high-end love-vendor who takes a cut. They're the ones who set up the meetings and generally keep things safe by vetting clients. While also less than legal procurers can make up to $33,000 a week.

The punishments for sex work can vary in range from fines to jail time.

#7: Illegal Wildlife Poacher
The illegal poaching of wildlife has been a huge problem for years. And largely centered around ivory. But that's only gotten worse as the business has moved online.

Demand is still high for animals used in traditional medicines or delicacies like a single whale shark fin which can sell for up to $20,000. Or even animals like monkeys or tropical birds that can sell as pets. In 2010, the Kaiser spotted newt from Iran became one of the first pet species to be on the brink of extinction with only about 1,000 left in the wild thanks to illegal online sales. In may of 2017, a 62 year old Vietnamese woman was caught at the Tan Son Nhat airport with $88,000 worth of animal parts. Including ivory, tiger skins and even elephant tails. In fact, the black market wildlife trade is estimated to be worth at least $10 billion.

The penalties for wildlife trafficking depends on the country, but their support from the UN to make it a serious international crime.

#8: Panhandler
Do you like the outdoors, interacting with the public? Do you have excellent sign making skills? Then a career in panhandling might be for you.

Of course not all panhandlers are there by choice. And we can only hope that life doesn't throw us a curve and put us on the street. But some people have practically made it an art. And are making way more than minimum wage.

Busking for cash usually requires a permit if you don't want to fine of course. And aggressive panhandling is generally legal.

In 2012, 45 year old Shane Speegle was arrested for panhandling without a permit in Oklahoma City. When the cops asked him why he didn't get a job, he made a legitimate argument that he didn't want to because he was already making $60,000 a year.

Even crazier is in Lexington, Kentucky, a man named Gary Thompson claimed to be making up to $100,000 a year exploiting people's good nature by pretending to be mentally and physically disabled.

#9: Drug Smuggler
Drugs Smugglers are responsible for getting the goods across the borders and pass law enforcement. Millionsof dollars worth of drugs can be in a single shipment. And if a job goes well, smugglers can be entitled to a big percentage of that.

In April of 2015, two smugglers Mumin Sahin and Emin Ozmen were caught off the coast of Aberdeenshire in a ship carrying 3.2 tons of pure cocaine. With a street value of over 512 million Pounds. Smugglers who work alone are usually young and are known as mules. When traveling through airports, mules will actually swallow small baggies of drugs while traveling. Especially through airports. Then use, laxatives to pass them.

As a teenager in the early 2000s, Danny Santos began driving drugs across the El Paso-Juarez border between the United States and Mexico for a drug cartel. Over four years and 20 runs, he made well over $50,000

#10 Corrupt Politician
Working in politics can be grueling work without much thanks. But it has the potential to be pretty lucrative. And no, not just in post presidency book deals.

The biggest criminals in the world don't get where they are without knowing who to pay off. The same goes for big businesses who want tax breaks or fewer regulations. And many politicians are willing to look the other way for the right price. In 2014, a California State Senator Leland Yee was arrested for taking part in the illegal gun trade. And for accepting at least $43,000 in bribes to influence legislation. In March of 2017, South Korean President Park Geun-Hye was arrested and booted from office for corruption.

She was accused of taking bribes from corporations like Samsung to ignore questionable business practices. And for working with her top advisor Choi Soon-sil for getting businesses to donate $69 million to her non-profits.

#1: The Bible
The Bible, from the word biblia, meaning "the book" in Latin, is a collection of vastly different texts from different times, places, styles, and often contradictory sources, especially when you get into the weeds of the Old versus New Testament.

The Old Testament has some of the most violent and lustful stories ever told, starring the bearded badass Moses, while the New Testament's heartthrob Jesus taught us all that we need to love and perhaps punishments, depending on who you ask.

Yep, but it's true. Sorry, J.K. Rowling, but the Bible is the bestselling book series of all time, providing bedrock principles for 2.2 billion people worldwide. And honestly, don't be offended if I didn't mention your specific religious text, like the Quran or the Flying Spaghetti Monster Manual, because they all teach us something.

#2: The Origin of Species
Okay, you know you're a big deal when they attach an -ian to the end of your name, like Darwinian.

Charles Darwin dropped an atom bomb of knowledge on the world with his book The Origin of Species in 1859 that introduces the theory of evolution based on his scientific explorations around the Galapagos Islands.

Suddenly, people started realizing that the history of life might not be verbatim to the Bible as they thought. For example, like the world only being 6,000 years old, and instead the Earth might actually be a few billion years old. As you can imagine, churches and their devout flock did not like it very much and decreed Darwin as a heretic.

And to this day, Darwin's rational approach to science butts up against religious origin concepts like creationism. But the survival of the fittest, the idea that those who do not adapt and excel will perish, remains relevant to the social as well as the scientific.

#3: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare single-handedly changed culture, the English language, and the art of storytelling itself with his plays, sonnets, and poems.

Shakespeare didn't write just one book, but a collected anthology of his works that created the modern templates for comedy, tragedy, love stories, and even the political thriller.

Shakespeare talked about race relations in Othello, helped us understand teen angst with Romeo and Juliet, and Julius Caesar inspired the actor John Wilkes Booth to assassinate Abraham Lincoln. And fun fact, 10% of the words that Shakespeare wrote he made up to evoke emotion, like lackluster, softhearted, and fashionable. This lackluster, softhearted person is fashionable. I like him.

But possibly Shakespeare's greatest impact was creating the modern concept of romantic love, with its triumph and tragedies, but most importantly choosing who you love. Read them, but don't follow in the footsteps of Romeo and Juliet. If you read the book, it doesn't turn out well.

#4: The Communist Manifesto
Okay, now we're on the flip side of Adam Smith, who was Friedrich Engels and Karl Marx, who threw a monkey wrench in the cogs of capitalism when they released The Communist Manifesto in 1848.

Europe was choking in the smoky Industrial Revolution when the distribution of wealth was stark between the few haves in their top hats and waistcoats and the majority of have-nots covered in soot.

The book begins with a eulogy for capitalism that launched revolutions across Europe where workers, the proletariat, joined forces to create powerful political blocks against the bourgeoisie that got fat off their labor. And thus, communism was born and would eventually spread across the world, with the often violent revolutions in Russia in 1917, China in 1949, and Cuba in 1959, and on and on the red cloud spread, comrade.

#5: The Wealth of Nations
Economists would argue that the most important thing written in 1776 was not the Declaration of Independence but Adam Smith's The Wealth of Nations, because of its impact on the global economy to this day.

International trade can thank Smith because he helped kill off mercantilism, the system where wealth was kept within a single market by choking off imports through punishing tariffs. The Scottish philosopher argued that people's self-interest led to prosperity, so if you let it go unchecked, everyone in society will be a winner, and now we have capitalism.

Many conservatives the world over look to Smith as something of a prophet who showed humanity the light with his free trade gospel. I never thought of economics and religion as being that similar, although religion does have that little tray that they hand out that makes you feel guilty if you don't give them money, so I guess they are kinda similar.

#6: The Rights of Man
Civil rights as we know it began when Thomas Paine argued persuasively in The Rights of Man that a government that does not take care of its citizens deserves to be overthrown.

It was released in 1791 in the wake of the American and French Revolutions and advocated for a republic rather than a monarchy, where civil rights are respected and equality amongst citizens is honored.

It sent shockwaves throughout the old and new world, especially in his native England, where he was tried in absentia and sentenced to hang for libel against the crown, but never returned, staying in exile in France.

Paine demonstrated that with a proper tax system, a government could provide social welfare for its citizens, like police, public education, and protections for the poor and elderly. You hear that, United States and Canada? A proper tax system, not the one we currently got. After Tax Day, it's like I'm walking outta there limping like, "Oh, oh god, my butt, oh."

#8: Plato's The Republic
Plato, not to be confused with Play-Doh, in case you were wondering, wrote The Republic around 380 BC, around the time of the Peloponnesian War, analyzing Greek society breaking down in real time, which became among the first great texts on political and moral theory.

The book is written as a conversation held between Socrates, Athenians, and foreigners arguing for societal and political justice versus individual justice to create the ideal society. And out of this comes the utopian city-state of Kallipolis, where the best parts of man govern, allowing prosperity and happiness through obedience to a higher power, the state.

#9: The Analects of Confucius
The Analects of Confucius that was written 2,400 years ago are still the linchpin of Chinese society today.

Confucius skips over the spirituality discussions of the Bible and Quran and offers practical social order related to family, morality, politics, and social hierarchy.

Every Chinese emperor and Communist Party leader has practiced Confucianism that blends authority with man's moral duty, which has justified power grabs and abuse of power throughout China's long and tumultuous history. And those same principles can be credited to the rise of modern China, which is now the rival global superpower of the United States.

#10: Dianetics
Tom Cruise, John Travolta, and Kirstie Alley couldn't possibly be wrong that L. Ron Hubbard's Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health is the most important book ever published. No, of course not.

L. Ron Hubbard, a science-fiction writer who was accused of being a fraud, created a religion based on the pseudoscience that was offered in his bestselling book that Scientologists refer to as Book One on their path to going clear. That's just a fancy way of saying (babbling).

Published in 1950 as a $4 self-help book, it claimed it could cure human aberrations through the process of auditing that could unlock unfathomable potential. Nearly 70 years later, the impact of Dianetics continues with the always controversial and never boring Church of Scientology, with their devoted followers who really believe in an intergalactic warlord called Xenu.

Honestly, I don't have the time in this post or the patience to explain what Scientology's all about, but look it up; Google is free! cheesy

#10: Adam Horwitz
As a teenager Adam Horwitz strived to be successful in business. Dreaming of creating just one, million dollar company before he was 21 years old, and a spoiler alert* he accomplished that goal.

In less than three years, Horwitz funded nearly 30 on-line ventures, none of which were very successful. That is until he launched Mobile Monopoly, an internet marketing product and course that teaches people how to generate marketing leads by utilizing the mobile marketplace and mass texting phones.

It was a huge success for Adam, who built on the idea by adding more and more courses gaining hundreds of thousands of dollars each time he did. This massive wave of income turned him into a millionaire at just 17 years old. A few years earlier than he'd actually hoped.

Marketing course, great. Mass texting phones, you can shove it up where the sun don't shine kid, 'cause I do not like some spam.

Well the following kids could definitely buy one of those. In fact they could probably buy 20, because they made millions of dollars, and they're just kids.

Often referred to by its more sinister moniker, the Devil's Triangle, the Bermuda Triangle is a three-sided zone in the western Atlantic Ocean, within which a number of people, ships, and aircraft have disappeared without a trace.

The three points of the invisible triangle are at Miami, Florida; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and the island of Bermuda. Potential explanations have been offered for the truly mysterious disappearances, including paranormal activity and extraterrestrial encounters

#2: The Moguicheng Desert
Located in the Xinjiang region in China, the Moguicheng is a part of the Gobi Desert and is full of beautiful mounds of sand and stone that resemble ancient strongholds and creatures. But with that beauty comes unsettling mystery, as it's not the visual wonders that the area's known for.

It's actually the sounds often heard while wandering through it. Visitors have reported hearing light bells and soft guitar on nice days, while storms bring with it darker sounds like screams, crying, and the angry roars of a demonic creature.

Situated to the east of Phoenix, Arizona, the Superstition Mountains get their name from the various dangers and supernatural elements encountered by those who brave them, including unsettling sounds and something that makes people disappear.

Legend has it that hidden within the rock is the Lost Dutchman's Mine, a trove of gold.

Every year, four to five hikers either die or go missing while exploring the Superstition Mountains, many of them looking for a treasure but finding a terrible fate instead.

Poltergeists, UFOs, glowing orbs, demonic creatures, and even Bigfoot has been encountered there. And that's only naming some. Authors investigating the ranch for a book claim that they had evidence of over 100 supernatural events there, including disappearances, mutilations, and even encounters with creatures that bullets failed to harm.

#5: Lake Natron
Lake Natron in Tanzania, Africa, has a depth of only three meters, but that shallow water is a pool that you do not want to swim in. Due to the surrounding bedrock's makeup, the lake is basically an alkaline brine. It can surpass a pH of 12 and burns away at any creature that isn't adapted to it.

Many of the creatures that lose their lives in Lake Natron become blackened statues of what they once were, their preserved corpses frozen in lifelike positions, as if they were killed and turned into stone in an instant.

#6: Spotted Lake
Located in the Similkameen Valley in British Columbia, Canada, Spotted Lake has been regarded as a sacred site for centuries by the First Nations of the Okanagan Valley.

The lake often looks less like a single body of water, but instead a number of large puddles, each one a different shade than the last. Due to the unique chemical compounds each spot is made up of, Spotted Lake is considered a place where numerous illnesses as well as conditions can be cured by simply bathing in the right puddle, something that to this day scientists have yet to explain.

Located in Jiangxi Province in China, this mountain is known by many as the Garden of the Gods and is considered sacred in Taoism, an ancient Chinese religion.

The area is famous for the many natural, oddly shaped granite pillars that stand there, as well as its large number of different plant and animal species, as well as the mists which linger about it for around 200 days each year.

The oddest and most unexplainable part of this mountain is the magical calming it seems to bring people who visit it, seemingly without explanation.

Considered to be one of the Earth's oldest geological formations, Mount Roraima is definitely not your typical mountain as, instead of rising up to a peak that points at the sky, Roraima rises almost straight up a huge flat plateau over 400 meters off the ground.

Situated on the triple border point of Brazil, Guyana, and Venezuela, the most mysterious thing about this area isn't the odd plateau. It's actually the amount of odd life that exists there, including flora and fauna, much of which cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

#9: Monolith of Uluru
A place considered sacred by a local aboriginal tribe, the Uluru is a mysterious landmark in the southern part of Northern Territory in central Australia.

The Uluru is considered an inselberg, or island mountain, in that it's a giant mass of sandstone climbing over 348 meters into the sky but is somehow surrounded by flat lowlands in every direction. Those flying over the monolith are treated to a view of a colossal rock that appears to be sinking into the earth.

Given the terrain, it's very odd that such a mountainous formation formed, and no one knows how it got there or who put it there.

Located in Victoria land, Antarctica, the McMurdo Dry Valleys possess a snow-free landscape due to the low humidity and mountains which block the flow of ice from glaciers.

One of the coldest places on Earth, McMurdo Dry Valleys are considered to be one of the world's most extreme deserts. Incredibly, it's the first place visited by human beings that is completely without any active microbial life. But what's most mysterious about it is that many experts believe that the valleys are very similar to the conditions that are on Mars.
